Ok, fam'ly. I'm here to make sure you lovely people remain on the wagon. Felt like I was on that sucker by myself this week! Reign, Chal, Madea where ya'll at??
Also, I want to do a crazy 90 day challenge after Thanksgiving. I said I was going to do two-a-days w/a personal trainer, but I'm hearing interesting things about Insanity HIIT DVD. Ya'll heard anything about it? My biggest fear is that I'll get bored with it and quit using it in favor of a lower-impact (lower-results) workout regiment. I think someone was discussing it on the board before. I want to hear some real life success stories, folks!

I'm still here. Still on the wagon but earlier this week I seriously slacked off. Felt bad about it, but I got back in the groove. Had some restless energy last night so I pushed out 5 miles (3 on treadmill, 2 on track), a complete leg/hip/thigh based session, and major ab work. On top of that, took the time to shop and make/pack breakfast and lunch for today before showering and going to bed. Tired and sore, at this point, is an understatement.
I've heard of insanity. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that Madea did/is doing it. I've heard great reviews, though.
Oh yea, Shake Weight..... don't do it, Ms. Ciely. lol

But really, since I have you on the mic...can you speak on Insanity a lil bit? I seem to recall you having bootleg versions of some kinda seen-on-TV workout situation.
Also, on shakeweights, is the spring action really not helpful at all in terms of shortening the workout for the same results?

Those 5 miles put me out of commission for a good lil minute. Definitely had to sit down a catch a few breaths.
As for the shake weight, it just seems so....... ugh, i can't even find the word for it. The people I know who DID buy it either used it once/twice and now it's collecting dust in the closet, or gave it away as a gift to people who either used it once/twice and now it's collecting dust in the closet, or gave it away as a gift to people and so on. lol

Somebody gave me a copy of the Insanity dvds. IMO, Shaun T took a philosophy and theory that's been around for quite sometime and somehow convinced people it's a new innovated concept...and charge them a ridiculous amount of money for it. Interval training is nothing new, interval training at high intensity isn't new either...but it has always been effective.
(I'll and not get too 'schoolish' here)
Insanity focus it's concept on short and intense workouts using an intensity close to your maximal oxygen uptake. Which is basically increases your VO2max by training at you vVO2max pace. (Well it should away, doesn't always work for people though)
My problem with it is the way they market the product. They make people believe doing this and p90x will help build muscle through plyometrics. But real plyometrics is a shock strategy for training the nervous system meant to be used sparingly. It doesn’t have enough time to load your muscles with the tension that is necessary for building muscle. It is a acceptable cardio workout though.
I'm a person that's critical of the Beach Body Company and the way they market Hip Hop Abs, Turbo Jam, P90X, & Insanity.
Bottom line: the Insanity series can and will be effective. It's a for sure way of cutting down on your physique…which might not be a good thing depending of your goals.

Actually I have no opinion on this concept yet. I haven't done my due diligence on it...still trying to wrap my head around it.
However, the shakeweight reminds me of those Electric Ab Belts from a few years back that was supposedly great for toning your abs through "electric pulse which runs through your muscle tissue and contracts it involuntarily".....had everyone going out and buying them.

L, I really wish you would've said something a few months earlier. I sent all the disc to Japan for my brother back in March. I'll see if he still has them if not, then I'll have to ask the lazy arse local hustle man.

Hey party people!
So, I had no weight loss goals at the beginning of the year and actively avoided this thread, because I didn't want to disrupt my enjoyable schedule of eating cakes, cookies, pies and other delectable treats while effectively pressing my gluteus maximus on soft cushiony things, with the optimism and results that would be posted here. That would only lead to self judgment.
Fast forward a few months...my Dr. recommended that I lose some weight in about 6 months (10 lbs at least...) which means work...BOOOOOOO - HISSSSS!
He advised that this was a critical time, because it won't get any easier for me to lose it later. (tell me something else I DON'T know) If I didn't do it, he prophelied a very grim future for me.
What did I do with this information? Well...for the first 2 months, I sat on my @ss and ate cake. In fact, I actually gained about 5 pounds after the visit. Then, I decided I would try something.
I started a 10 week 60 day program, you get 1 day off a week, and there's a fairly detailed meal plan that it eases you into.
I just started week 8. I have lost 19 lbs, so I've met my Dr.'s goal, dropped 5% body fat (but it's still pretty high from where I used to be) and dropped a few points on the BMI chart.
I still have a few weeks left, and I feel pretty good about the results. The problem I have is I should've waited a few more weeks before I started, because know I've got to maintain this ish!
Actually, I think I can continue to get some more results, but this ain't no joke...
Thought I'd share my story and encourage you all to keep pushin! Plus I'm committing to checking this out, because maybe I can be held accountable to maintain...

Excellent! Congrats on your loss. Hope you do great with your maintenance! It always feels great when your doctor is impressed by your weightloss. Tell us what he says at your next visit

The quick and random exercises look like some of the things we are doing in boot camp. On another note I was able to get in a pair of my size 6 jeans Ha it's working!
