The internet is making BGLO's some what of a novelty. Mofo don't really road trip like that anymore so it seems. I would say from 1995 until 2002 I was doing my thing. I was so O.U.T. that it was spelled withO.U.T. the new school W. During the days of Be O.U.T. or be talked abO.U.T. During the days of the saying you either hit the rit or the weight room and in some cases BOTH. During the days of when not only if you didn't go but didn't REGISTER at districts you were seen as CAT.
I'm so innnn and hermit like now its not funny. I think sometimes folks thought I was gonna be O.U.T. forever. I would say out of all the road trips all the Philly Greeks, Penn Relays, Virginia Beach July 4th weekends and Memorial Day weekends, Going to the Drip at Epsilon Chapter in NYC, alllll the homecomings of different schools, Black College Reunion in Daytona during the 90's was hands down the greatest chit of all time. You met lots of bruhs from different places and the women were off the damn LEASH! Say that again OFF THE LEASH! I never knew so many fine sistah's stayed in Alabama. One year so many sistahs kept saying that is where they were from I started asking to see drivers license because I thought they were lying to me. Talk about tall thick amazons... damn. To bad my loads of pictures were destroyed by my then gf and mother of my children. I still got the memories though... still got the memories......

Man that is so slept on. My old heads use to tell me about Daytona Beach in the 90s. According to them, EVERYTHING today pales in comparison. He also said that the unity out there was great and there was more than enough to go around. Oh and Alabama is slept on at times when it comes to country thick sistahs. lol. Dag - VP & Phire? Ya'll up on the Penn Relays? Man that use to be the best of times right there. We didn't even care about the races taking place. All the Greeks use to stay right on the outside of Franklin Field and just walk that strip. Vendors use to be out and everything. Then, outside of the parties that night, heads either took it to South Street or the McDonalds parking lot on Broad Street near Temple (currently right down from the Liacouris Center).
My Bros from Pi Rho at Temple use to have a Frat House on I believe 54th and Pine, but at night, they opened the doors for everybody that wanted to come through - All sorts of Greeks up in the there. Great times cuz.
Never made it down Daytona Beach, but I’ve heard about the stories….

Their was a time when interests actually did their Research, (not just via the internet), attended functions, found clever ways to get some historic information regarding membership, etc. Their was a time when humility was front and center, versus this act of entitlement. Their was a time when interests gladly anticipated the "unknown" and always attempted to step their game up. Their was a time when people actually "earned" their spot", and once again not call 1-800-I want be  O.k I a done for now. |

This is something that I would love everyone's input on -especially the old heads. Do you feel as if technology, specifically the internet such as greek messageboards or greeks only websites has hurt the value of the good ol' fashion road trip? When I first crossed I remember my prophytes hammering into my head that we need to go travel and represent not only yourself, but your chapter elsewhere. Leave the region. I've noticed that now, because of the power of the internet and other technologies, road tripping is not as common. Greeks are getting to know one another via internet and some have even vouched for those they have never met due to extensive online conversations. Will this become the new "microwave" protocol or am I just reading into this thing too much? Let's discuss If I do not know you or at least know somebody IRL that can vouch for you, I will not do so either. As for road trips, folks miss out if you do not experience at least one. The internet is nice and helps to make a lot of contacts but there is something to be said about face to face interaction. |
