I'm just seeing this... <-------Knows that Diva is beautiful regardless of her hair <-------Admits that he does prefer her natural hair Continue...LOL @ Level One: For the record, I think it's cool as hell when a Black man supports his woman's decision to go natural, for REAL! ( I dig Cold even more for this one .)

Thanks Chal and I will tell here. I think it's also important to let her know that she is not the only lady that had those same feelings of wanting to turn back, or forget it. This thing is really emotional and spiritual for her and other ladies as well am I right?. I think when women realize that this Journey comes from within and not necessarily a battle of your appearance then I think it gets easier to deal with and accomplish.
Can I continue to ask you ladies questions if I need to? And I will also keep yall updated on her progress.

@work: ask as many questions as you like! Here is a link to a sisterlocs hair album public.fotki.com/greeneyebandit/kingdelta: I love sisterlocs, especially when they are short (for some reason, lol). Will you become a DIYer after a while? In several years I'm going to think about whether or not I want to loc and I'm thinking of going with micro braidlocs.

@leja I try to be a supportive man and friend in my wife's life. She has been playing around with this idea for some time now but I never pushed her to do it. On the inside, I was her cheerleader hoping that this day (s) will come when she chooses to go natural but I never voiced it. Now that she has taken steps to do it, I want to help her and encourage her and if I can help it Not let her give up. I have heard that during this process a lot of women want to give up and go back to the CC. My wife is beautiful and I let her know that. But I want to show her that she is beautiful with a wash n go and not just with a flat iron. She has this little fear still inside of her though that I'm trying to help her over come and you brought up and excellent point. If she is used to going with short hair then being emotional about the BC shouldn't be that bad. But get this, she doesn't wanted to get the BC. BC or not I'm still going to stay routing for her through to her level of comfort. @diva she made the I guess "Grand decision" about 2 months ago. By that I mean she hasn't had a perm. It was about 2 1/2 weeks ago when I trimmed her hair though. But see she has damaged ends, some of her hair has even fell out on the sides/front due to weave and glue (years of this). Is that repairable? I mean can it ever grow back? She wants to get a sew in but she doesn't think the stylist will be able to braid (?) her hair because of the length. If she can't go that route then wouldn't you think just taking care of "her" hair complete with the shampoos, conditioners etc...is her best soulution? (<---on purpose lol). I'll pass on all the things you ladies told me about in hopes that she remane positive (<---oops I did it again) Three natural hair salon I will open: Stay the Coarse Soulutions Remane Positive....lolo <---being silly Great names for the Natural Hair Salon's! It's great that you are supporting your wife through the "inter sting" journey of going natural. I've recently cut off all of my perm and about 2.5 inches of natural hair remained. I couldn't take the different texture anymore. It was becoming overwhelming. I wasn't quite ready to embrace that drastic change because I have NEVER had short hair so I quickly laced my now short tresses with kinky twists. However, come this weekend I will be taking them out and rocking my "au'naturale" new do. Not sure how my SO will react to it but I'm pretty confident that he is not with me for my hair ;D Truth be told, the things we do "beauty wise" is not for men but for other women. Men really don't care about the "details" of this and that as long as we're not looking a HAM -LoL. Going natural is a beautiful thing and there is so much versatility you can do with natural hair- Long, short, straight, kinky or curly. My friend just went "ground zero" (chopped all her hair off) and she looks better than most chicks with hair...who knew At the end of the day, having CONFIDENCE make everything look a whole lot better. That's TRUTH!

@bun Thanks ALOT!!! I will pass that site on to my wife. (just between me and you, I asked my wife what were sisterlocs she told me and from the pics a just saw she was way off ) @moch This----> "At the end of the day, having CONFIDENCE make everything look a whole lot better." is MORE than the truth it's Gospel. This is what I'm trying to elevate my wife to and ByGolly me and the rest of the OOA ladies will see that she gets there.

Guess what yall? My wife went into a salon to see what can be done about her "transition". Well as you know my wife hair came out due to years of weave and glue. The hair above her temple (on both sides is slim to none). How about the lady told her that there may not be nothing to do about that and she highly doubt that it will ever grow back.
Ok you know I wanted her to take me back up there, point ole girl out and push her down and tell her the devil is a LIE!!!....lololol
Or IS she right? Sadly so but Right? (she bet NOT be) My baby gone DOO this thing.
But instead I told her to just leave her hair alone. Make sure she hydrate it (her self as well), Use sulfate-free products (Miss Jessie?) NO HEAT, and eat her vegetables.
Now, did I tell her wrong or did I leave something out?
Have any of you Ladies had this experience of "temple hair" not growing do to weave/glue? Did it grow back? How long did it take? What did you do to help it grow back?
OH I also asked her is her wanting to go Natural is for Spiritual reasons?
Her answer: No I just want to have healthy hair. I told her she is awesome!! ;D Either decision (spiritual or otherwise) is ok with me.

that's not true, Work. My hair on the sides was slim to none because of all those tight ass ponytails and hairstyles moms gave me when I was a kid. Add that to years of doing my own hair and not knowing how to take care of it, and you have a big mess. But, with the proper care, it can (and will) grow back. Mine has filled in quite nicely and is now as long as the rest of my hair. Tell Mrs. Work not to dispair. The no heat and hydrating advice was great advice. Tell her to keep it well conditioned and trim her ends regularly. It will all come back in due time.

Levelone, it's possible that what your wife have been doing to her hair over a long period of time could have caused unrepairable damage. I have a small spot of traction alopecia from getting tight azz cornrows so I speak from experience. I would recommend your wife see a dermatologist. The can give her steroid shots or provide a treatment to stimulate hair growth. But you didn't tell your wife wrong at all. It is VERY important to keep the hair moisturized, the scalp clean and more importantly a healthy body via a healthy diet and exercise. That ALWAYS helps. I wish her luck. Keep on supporting her remind her she's beautiful with or without hair

@chal wow that sounds exactly like my wife, lol. Years of having her hair in a ponytail/pulling it back all starting from a young age. (imma cuss her momma OUT b/c she the one who first did it)
@mocha Yes she has brought up the Dermatologist issue now and again but for a different reason though. She has noticed that her face "breaks out" on the side or her side burns. She says it's because she may be having an allergic reaction to the weave.
Well you know what, this is more reason to stop with the weave...lol.
I will tell her that maybe she should mention her hair lost also? Oh and I know this is left field but does going to a black Dermie makes a difference? (my wife would insist that she does but...)

<--has only been to black Dermie's only because they should know "our" skin pretty well.
Funny you should mention this...I prefer Black dermatologists, Indian female doctor's/gyn's, Asian accupuncturist and Caucasian or African dentist's. Sad I know...but what can I say -loL

Now I personally can't get with Miss Jessie's products. They are pricey and have some ingredients in them that I don't care for but a lot of people love her stuff so she might also. Carol's Daughter is another hate it or love it line. Some other lines she could look at are Qhemet Biologics, Oyin Handmade, Karen's Body Beautiful, Anita Grant, and Ojon and Elasta QP Mango butter is nice. Also tell her not to pass up the "White hair products" because some of that stuff is GREAT.
IDK know if the color of the dermatologist matters, she just may have to do a little research and find out about them. I've read stories of people going to a Black dermie who looked at them like they were crazy when they talked about co-washing, ACV rinses, baking soda rinses, etc. Someone else will go to a White derme who sees nothing wrong with those things. She could end up with a Black woman who doesn't care for natural hair, lol. You just never know. It's the same thing with hair stylists...a natural stylist may not really care about your hair's health and just know how to style but someone who mainly does relaxers may treat your hair great.
And I've read about people having reactions to some weave. It's something about the chemicals they use to treat weave or something. But it was suggested that the hair be washed/soaked in something before using. I can't remember what they said to soak it in though, it's on the hair boards.

Thanks BHop for all the recs. I'm glad you named a lot of product lines which gives her plenty to choose from and work with. Wow about the weave soaking. AWWWW you ladies go through a lot don't you?
<----gives all the ladies in this thread a big hug.
I don't think there is a chance for "white hair products" when it comes to Mrs. Work...lol.

Also, she must understand that what works for everyone else may not work for her. Most things I've learned was by trial and error. I know thatthis shampoo works wonders for me, but the accompanying conditioner leaves me flat. Or this gel does nothing while this setting lotion does it all. Eventually, she will find the right combination.

Hi Work -
Your wife may want to try some supplements (easily affordable & available) such as:
Biotin (which promotes healthy hair growth) Calcium/Magnesium A B vitamin complex/B6 <--very impt
Adding these to a healthy diet/exercise regimen might help her growth
Note: A lot of YT products don't contain the mineral oil (used to give our hair false shine) and a variety of filler chemicals that a lot of "our" products do
She may find that some of them work better for her
