Which is what I've been saying from jump, Bun. But us on this board, only represent the orgs. we aren't the voice of orgs as a whole which is made up of 1,000 upon 1,000 of members. We on this board do not make final decisions for our orgs cause if that was the case, AKA wouldn't have participated. We are only a pebble in a pond full of rocks. So all though us members on this board may not agree, it's what the whole says that goes, hence why D9 orgs. participated. I do find it funny that others have said the same thing, like we (us posters on this board) have the final say so in what our orgs. do, lol! We are just venting to each other (greeks to greeks that is). Oh well, it is what it is. EXALT

I just dont get why BGLO's are to "blame"? Are we blaming them for participating, or are we blaming them because they lost?....i feel like if they woulda won, nobody would give a damn, and some chapter (and prolly some of yall on here) woulda been rejoicin at the fact that yall just struck gold with this trillion dollar prize. this competition wasnt about "who's traditions meant the most to XYZ and how it transcends through the art of stepping". it was about who stepped the best. so no matter who the heck the judges were, why should ANY of the judging criteria be based on "how/why stepping was founded?" if i enter a cooking contest with 5 other italians and make a mean pasta better than ALL 5 of them, why should ANY of them win based on the fact that the dish is traditionally italian? that wasnt what the competition was about...Yeah... your post FAILS. Lets look at your analogy..... If you entered a cooking contest and you make a mean Pasta better than 5 Italians but the chit was judged by redneck truckers would you think you're win would be legit? Exactly gump. What the fuck do they know about Pasta that you probably made out of generic tomato sauce and boiled then fried oodles and noodles.

LOL@ Damie 3rd Bass was entertaining. Commercialization is America. It is now the world. If it's popular then it becomes "Pop" by definition. It was only a matter of time before some rapper came on the scene to lighten the air...(pun intended). Folks were still listening to other hip hop artists who had gone mainstream. Not so. We changed the music, and they followed. WE dictated (at least for a while). Gangsta rap didn't go mainstream, the mainstream came to the hood... there's a difference. You see it over and over through out our history here. If they commercialize their own ish that's on them. But I think you'd be hard pressed to say that the Skulls were commercialized by a movie. As best I can tell, what theyhave always done HASN'T changed because of it. That is clearly not the case when it comes to black people's culture and commercialization. I bet you I could stop that. I'll punch that little bastard in the throat with a 12 oz Everlast glove dipped in vinegar. LOL. I completely disagree. I have yet to hear one person come in here and say that they've seen that step that the AKAs did anywhere else. It was innovative. If you weren't impressed - so be it. We expect step shows to be creative, we ought not to be punishing the people that actually do it, merely because a team who we thought couldn't do the basics, managed to do the basics well. I wanna highlight 2 comments from Adisa's website Bull @#$%%^ $h!t. And Yes it is the D9's fault for propagating this myth. Teaching every auxillary, highschool, church, and youth group team has diluted the mystique. That is on us.
Precisely why no one who isn't experienced with step shows had any business judging it or affecting the outcome (anymore than I have business judging Figure Skating. If I don't know what a triple toe loop is supposed to look like, ANY triple toe loop will do.)
The ZTAs shouldn't have been in the show. PERIOD. That's on us. But they were in the show. And if they had been judged based purely on the quality and creativity of their show, they would not have won... no other BGLO would have won with their show. What some of you all seem to dismiss as a non-event I recognize as precedence (as well as recognizing the power of precedence - whether justified in it's foundation or not). But I digress... I and many others said it was a bad idea from the jump and time has proven us correct...
...how long will it be before we're proven right about this event being used as precedent.

They are loving it more because so many BGLO members are flipping out over it. Folks being sick over the loss makes the victory that much sweeter! Had the AKA's won, they would have been in here talking about how well the ZTA's performed, etc... but instead, everyone is up in arms.We can continue to discuss how the K's got cheated or how the competition was rigged or how "they" are stealing our culture and traditions.....in the end....WE entered the competition, WE legitimized the event and WE obviously didnt think WE would lose..... ....but it happened.... Hasn't everyone said that the ZTAs did perform well?

Hasn't everyone said that the ZTAs did perform well? With an asterik...not the same. Everyone has been to a step show where they called bullshit on the judges decision. EVERYONE. Whatever the reason for the judges decision...it was the judges decision. These same ladies beat out D9 orgs at their school PLUS, they also made it to regional....to win a spot in the competition. So this isn't the first time they've done it. We can say that WE should no't have been involved in the first place. That We should have known the rules and guidelines on who will be allowed to participate and who will be judging before agreeing to participate. That WE should have anticipated this as a possible outcome and that outcome becoming a precedent. I would agree. In the end....WE did what we did. Our national offices agreed to participate and our chapters competed. Willingly. Let's just be honest...nobody thought they would win. But they did so get past it and figure out your next step. And just like I tell my young basketball team...If you decide to play the game....sometimes you just lose.

No. The asterik was on their victory based on the routine, not their ability to execute the routine. Yes we have been to step shows and called b.s. on judges... the difference between then and now is that the past, no disputed decision abrogated the collective exclusive claim we have to "stepping" and it's tradition. But that's no longer the case is it?
The worst of the offenses is the precedence... and there is no getting "past" precedence Cam (we wouldn't have the pledge vs. non-pledge problem if that were true). It continues to inform and color everything after it. At best you can create a competing precedent, but there is no erasing what has transpired. I'm sure there were Greeks who dismissed the early debates about pledging as unimportant and trivial as well. I wonder if they still feel well served by that Faustian view now? I wonder if they had a chance would they be more attendant to these issues with a greater sense of urgency.
Just speculation on my part.
Obviously the consequences of pledging vs non-BGLO stepping differ, but the mechanism by which their respective snowballs become avalanches does not. Indifference is not a solution.
Feel free to see it however you want to see it, feel free to entertain it as long as your patience will allow. I will continue to analyze it, and talk about the implications.

I could be wrong but I don't see a surge of Pikes or Sigma Nu's jumping into step shows. Once again, WE allowed this to happen. We legitimized their right to compete. Now that WE lost, we are crying like an 8 year old girl who just got her Strawberry Shorcake Pez dispenser stolen.
The precendent...we shall see. You can't stop the commercialization of something popular. Once you release it to anyone, youve released it to everyone. We released it with the dorm step teams, praise step teams, etc...
This team didn't come out of nowhere so people had the chance to protest the fact that non-BGLO teams were competing. No one thought they would win...so there was no threat, hence, no protest.
We give it away in the name of showing folks what we have. We give it away because we are flashy. It's the same reason folks know, have and can probably recite our orgs rituals and non-public traditions. Folks have to share....and while i'm sure this has always occured (pillow talk isn't new) it seems to be occuring much more often.

I support them most of the time.. sometimes they go a tad overboard... but its a big thing down here...and well, it really helps the hood kids stay out of trouble.. I remember helping one girl group, they were all like 5th graders, I sware they were all 16 years old! LOL okay, maybe not that old, but you know what I mean.. when they had to keep up good conduct and graded to be apart of the team, we saw changes for real. They wanted to do it, so they worked for it.. parent use to tell us how they saw changes in their children and how they really appreciated it.

Hi Everybody, ZTA stole the step of being held on a board/table from APA step show. It was at the FISS 2009 FL Invitational Step Show that APA perform that routine. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f8llhTYNKY . This is the second part of their stepshow . Actual D9 judges would have know that the step was stolen from a D9 organization. It appears that ZTA went on Youtube and stole a lot of different steps from the D9.

LOL! The group that won the Sprite Step Off was also from the University of Arkansas....they do that up there in the hills. *shrugs*
I still don't see a surge of them entering shows around the world. The Sprite Step Off should have been NPHC Step Off (sponsored by Sprite) but it wasn't. We had an opportunity to make it happen but didn't have the forsight. Amazing, especially since we are so full of educated minds....
So just like Vanilla Ice snatching "Ice Ice Baby" and having folks think we stole it from him.....so will stepping become.
Here's my point on this entire topic: The D9 got into this competition, with or without knowledge of the guidelines and rules, and the D9 women lost to a non-D9 group. Whether or not they were better than the K's is up for debate but the fact that the AKA's didn't win is not.
We can discuss how we gave/are giving stepping away or how it is being/has been stolen.
In the end....chalk this one up as an "L".

Instead of her jumping off the table after the first serious of steps, she slammed down hard on it to her knees while the other sorors was still holding the board and was stepping on her knees in sync with the sorors on the stage while the board. As hard as she hit the board (which was done for effect) I was sure it was going to break, but it didn't, they didn't budge in support of the board or anything. This is what I meant by one of my earlier post swhere if you've stepped before, judged, and watched a lot of different step shows, somethings that others are like "oh, that's new!" was probably done somewhere else before and that particular audience hadn't seen it. Not the case with that leg step from my sorors, and some other things. Oh well.

What happen to the service aspect of the Sprite Step Off? I thought that a service project was supposed to be performed by all of the steppers. It appears that Sprite outright pimped the D9 to sell their new show. In the 90's when MTV had whatever the name of that Greek show on where they wanted to show the college students going through the pledge process . The D9 Presidents said NOOOOOOOOOOOWAYYYYYYYYY. MTV offered big $$$$ for D9 participation and D9 Presidents still said no. Why did the D9 accept Sprite's and MTV's offer this time? The way Sprite/MTV presented the show it showed disunity among members (could that be considered post hazing - LOL) with the disagreements concerning the level of effort and general commitment by some fraternity D9 steppers. This is similar to when Britney Spears stole Janet’s dance moves. Janet to a great extent became irrelevant. Even with Michael Jackson who invented the pop game and took it to another level became somewhat irrelevant for a period of time because New Kids on the Block and N’Sync were taught by Darrin Henson who also taught Britney Spears to dance.

I have a couple of questions. I have not paid much attention to the earlier rounds, so I need some help here. How were the winners of the regional shows selected to go on? Was there a panel of judges or did the MTV/Sprite people just pick teams that made for good TV?
I am convinced that the end result was decided well before the performance in Atlanta. I have heard that Chili said that she thought the AKA's should have won and that she gave them a near perfect score. I would love to hear the other judges weigh in. I smell something foul.
