damn... I just realized something. Sprite got us... they really really got us. They've been planning this ish all along. Every freaking website I've been to has been talking about this contest non-stop. They have a non-stop self-propelled perpetual marketing machine pushing their product.
This is exactly what they wanted.
Well played Sprite, well played. AND THERE IT IS

Sprite wrote38 minutes ago The Sprite Step Off was initially created as a way to recognize talented college students and give out scholarships to help support their higher education. If we put on some entertaining step shows and brought people together along the way, all the better.
After the National Finals Competition this past weekend in Atlanta wrapped, we got together to do our post-competition review and found a scoring discrepancy in the sorority results. After looking at it and looking at it AGAIN, we determined there isn’t a definitive resolution.
Sprite is all about preserving the honesty and integrity of this competition. Because the scoring discrepancy can’t be resolved and due to the really tight margin between the first and second place sorors, we feel that the only right thing to do is to name both Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Chapter & Zeta Tau Alpha, Epsilon Chapter, co-first place winners of the Sprite Step Off.
With these revised results, we’re gonna increase Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Chapter’s scholarship prize to $100K, consistent with what Zeta Tau Alpha also got for their first prize winnings.
Thanks again to everyone who helped make The Sprite Step Off happen. And to one last stroll in the name of unity...

Does anybody really want to try and convince me that the results weren't decided well before the finals in Atlanta? Anybody?? Anybody?? Before you attempt to, please read this article.... www.s2smagazine.com/node/2524If you haven’t heard by now, the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are the baddest steppers in the land this year.
ZTA, a White sorority, pulled off a major at the Sprite Step-Off Challenge over the weekend. The newcomers beat out Black greeks from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Omega Psi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma to take first place and a check for $100,000. Although stepping is largely a revered tradition among Black fraternities and sororities, it’s not like the judges just handed Zeta Tau Alpha the top prize. From their initial try-out to the finals, those girls came hard. Of course it doesn’t hurt that their stepmistress has a background in choreography.
[b“They blew us away,” said Rob Hardy, the producer of an MTV 2 series about the Step-Off. He told S2S that after seeing the sorority’s audition there was no way they couldn’t have let the ladies compete in the big show.
[/b][/i]][/color] Pay particular attention to the highlighted section. Rob Hardy is the Stomp the Yard filmmaker. Alpha's, get your lame ass frat...this ain't no movie where you write a script and insert actors to play the role as assigned. This is real life, and he just helped to legitimize the selling of yet another part of our culture. If Sprite does this again, I certainly hope the D-9 stays out of it. Let Becky and Biff step, and see what types of crowds you draw. We were pimped, plain and simple, from the leaders of our organizations, to the Coca Cola company, to the MTV producers (some of which should have known better). My Sorors were clearly robbed, but I wonder how many other sororities were pushed to the side so that ZTA could make it to the finals. A Hot Mess!!!!!!!!!!

That article sucks, LOL. How did they beat out the fraternities when a fraternity won?
And IF if Sprite went back (it's not on the website) and made them co-first place winners then it sounds like hush money..."we'll give yall first place and a check to shut you up so you'll do this next year." On top of that fact that the glory is so after fact, LOL.

<--- has been lurking in the thread <--- thinks that should one of the D9 elect to participate next year it should ensure that there is no doubt over who the winner should be. Not saying the ZTAs didn't deserve to win or co-win, but now there is an awareness of the awe factor. There has been acknowledgement (to a certain degree) that if these women stepped in long sleeves, pants and wore full masks, they could have very well been mistaken for a black organization. Sometimes as black folk you have to be twice as good, even at your own game.

Well if there is a "scoring discrepancy", theoretically everyone can argue the scores now. Could you imagine if this had happened with the two Alpha teams?

That $100,000 is going to be good bait. And if they don't get what they want, MTV and Sprite will pump up the controversy about D9's not wanting to compete and up the prize to $250,000....negros will run to the competition then....all the while looking like a crackhead selling mommas toaster.
Either compete and accept the winner or object and not compete on principle.

Besides the show wasn't called the BGLO/Black/NPHC Sprite Step Off...it was called the Sprite Step Off. They just used the advertising, shiny title and prize money to sucker folks into thinking it was all BGLOs, lol. Folks fell for it, probably assumed they would not win the national comp and then they did. *shrugs*

If each national headquarters said hayle naw, no one is competing in the name of XYZ, there goes that theory (I do hope they do this like they did years back with that MTV thing about reality life of joining a greek org.) Once again, I need for people to understand that no one individual, or no one chapter or handful of chapters makes the decision for the group for the whole with D9 orgs. That is headquarters' job and if word comes from them that no one is competing in name of XYZ, they aren't no matter how big or tempting the prize is, period.
