This chit is a travesty to every probate and coming out show ever. I'm kinda upset the bruhs even participated but I must say. The Ques have been saying for the last 20 years STOP the commercialization of your shows. Keep them traditional. Do your steps and sing YOUR songs. We knew this day would happen. damn fuckin shame. Now mofo crown who can step the best by THEIR standards? Niggahs buck dancing for soda's and trinkets. I hope folks are happy but remember who warned you way back when......

I have to agree, all the damn skits, then there is all the damn grinding and gyrating, it's ridiculous! They won fair and square because they stepped! Period!

They won fair and square because they stepped! Period! The irony of that chit huh? Allllll the mofo who been saying step shows needed to evolve blah blah blah.. It evolved alright.. To mofo getting on a nationally televised program having becky and them do a old school show and busted they ass with it. We tried to warn ya. Maybe since the white girls dressed up like trinity kicked ass mofo will start doing real shows again. Hell if our orgs die off I can gurantee 30 years form now all the white orgs will be pledging above ground and having step show competitions on some american idol type shit. Coons

But um... so lemme get this straigh, because I didn't really follow it. So this was a best of the best showdown and a white sorority won? Daaaamnmnnn. Say it ain't so. I thought this was D9 only based on the one promo I saw. Either way that's pretty sad.

As far as Pan Hellenic blunders go, I put this fiasco right up there with forcing pledging underground. Another not well thought out maneuver that has blown up in the face of our collective leaderships and has potential implications for YEARS to come. You would think if the our leadership didn't have an appreciation or respect for our traditions, that they'd at least have enough sense to protect our unique "brand".
Go ahead. Tell me I'm over-reacting. That's what some of you are undoubtedly thinking. Some of you thought the contest was a good idea too. Like our leadership, I guess you haven't thought this all the way through long term. But that's alright, the genie is out of the bottle now.
From now on step shows belong to anyone. Any group that wants to "step" has license to now. Anyone corporation that wants to host a step show for their benefit, can now. They don't need to approach us anymore... consult with us anymore... or work with us anymore... nope... our validation is no longer required. In the quote-unquote largest step show contest in history, the white team won. Tradition meant nothing here... it couldn't - otherwise there's no way they could win. It would be like a dude out-dancing Michael Jackson by using Michaels own signature dance moves against him. Or like having someone out-perform Prince singing Prince's songs. You really cannot understate just how ridiculous this outcome is given the backdrop.
You can't be mad at the ZTAs - all they did was participate. Our leadership are the ones who have fallen asleep behind the wheel. It's not about the ZTAs peforming well or performing poorly - they did well anyone who saw the video would agree (honestly it's debatable if the AKAs would have come out on top even if they had switched routines with the ZTAs because they had the "novelty" aspect working for them. The AKAs did things in their step show that I've never seen before in a step show - PERIOD. There were NO new elements in the ZTAs show except for the people performing it. The ripple they did is honestly, dime-a-dozen standard. Anyone who disagrees has not seen many step-shows. The ZTAs performed it well enough but instead of the usual response the crowd roars. It's difficult sometimes to overcome "novelty" when it becomes a crowd favorite). All that said, we can decry the results without decrying the level of performance of the ZTAs. I honestly think they did well. But is it ever appropriate to say that they are better than someone that they are mimicking? Can that logically even be true?
If it is - let us cease with saying things like, "they won using steps that AKA's taught them". They're not AKA steps anymore. They're not anyone's steps anymore. They're public domain. They belong to everyone now. Whatever deference and respect for our tradition that they were obliged to acknowledge, whatever gravitas you had for being a creator of steps, just booty shook it's way off the stage in Patent Leather Trench Coats. You are just another team from now on.
Hope you're happy
If Our leadership had any smarts (and I think we've established that they don't otherwise they never would have signed on to having a competition of traditional African American Steps, by non traditional African American orgs) they would host their own national competition and declare those winners the national champions instead of letting Sprite do it. It's the only way to stop the bleeding.

*chuckles a bit*
Maybe my mind is bad but I didn't know that Sprint was going to allow non-Pan Hell groups into the competition. The ads all make it look like a BGLO comp.....
With that said.....rock bottom is swiftly approaching....maybe then.....

I didn't think our leaders would sign up for an "open" competition either but I was clearly wrong. Next we'll be adding these non-traditional orgs to the D9. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We spend so much tiem worrying about intake that we miss the desperate need to re-alignment of our membership populations to our original purposes. Protocol and Traditions (that's what we call ours, not sure about you) should be working overtime to refocus our members on what it means to be a member of XYZ org and how to protect and preserve our traditions (protect the brand). We've debated this several times (junior auxillaries, pillow talk, etc.). Our members are helping non-D9 entities steal our traditions. This must stop.

I don't think the D9 had the very best on display in this competition...I know that wasn't the best Kappa had to offer.
I felt the AKA's were robbed at gun point!

LOL @ Cam!
Naaa, fool...the brothers from Central State won, and the brothers from Clark-Atlanta won second. I need to see the Delta Xi show, 'cause those Alpha Phi (CAU) brothers have been puttin' it down here in Alpha South for the past 4-5 years or so. At our regional conventions, the question hasn't been who's gonna win the step show, but who will come in second to Alpha Phi Chapter? LOL!

Some of my brothers from undergrad and I were out on Bourbon St. during the step show at national, so I missed them.
