Good call Cold. I don't want to believe the PanHel would sign off on a competition whose winner may not be internal, whose proceeds do not flow back into the orgs, and who rules they opposed. They had to have significant input......I hope.

State Farm BAYOU CLASSIC is not all about greek life. It's only one part that was brought in the weekend because it involved 2 schools that have dominant greek lives on their respective campuses. The weekend is mainly about the Game and the Battle of the Bands and for all of those unknown to the "greek world around us" thats all they focus on. The step show, which happens the friday before everything starts, is to me just a preliminary thing thats done for greeks (and greek lovers) by greeks. People of certain organizations judge it. It is not a reality show. It is not a national competion. The rules of the step show during the Battle of the Bands do not compare at all to those that Sprite are enforcing. Of course State Farm and the other sponsors were going to allow it and sponsor it every year but I doubt that it was the birth child of State Farm. I believe, if anything, State Farm wanted to capitilize off this massive rivalry between GSU and SU football. Neither the Battle of the Bands nor the Step show is nationally aired and viewed. SO, I think the two (Sprite step-off and Bayour Classic step show), are alike but not comparible in the eyes of those who would argue that actions like this are killing you all's existance.
Just my NON-GREEK Opinion

I see Damie & I remain on one accord. Luminous, I learned a lo about The Bayou Classic from you just now (so much so that I might try to make it this year).
VP, how I've missed your brash (but always pointed) style of commentary. How you been?

According to the website, its been endorsed by each D9 organization. I don't think its a perfect format, but if I were eligible to participate I'd look at it like this: Its gonna happen, and the money is gonna be awarded to somebody. Might as well be me! This is not in the planning stage...this is going down. The choice is either participate or not. I saw that on their website...and yet no one wore any letters whatsoever. Strange. I'd like to know the nature of this endorsement. I know they've been underwriting boules/conventions and claves like nobody's business for the past year or so. To the tune of 50-80k a pop. Ninjas is accepting that money quick.

Working, hustling, trying to do big things. Glad to hear that you are well. Consistently studying & imparting knowledge (I saw you in the Burning Sands thread over in religion). I dig that.

OK, y'all were right. It's not D9 exclusive. They just officially lost me. And you "defer" the competition right in the middle of qualification rounds? Suspect!

Well...let's see... Sprite couldn't have had this "showcase" (tongue in cheek) if chapters of our orgs had just said TO HELL WITH IT, WE AIN'T STEPPIN'! But...let's get real here folks...how many of us can say that our chapters (on whatever campus they may be on) will turn down the chance to step and stroll on NATIONAL TELEVISION...and in glorious HD...pleeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssseee people! That's why some of our members joined in the first place, and to have a venue to do what they love to do before a nationwide audience is simply too much to turn their backs on. I guess I'm kinda suprised/confused at all the outrage about it Maybe it's just me. After all, what's the difference between this and that movie "Stomp on your Yard while You're in the Drumline?"

For the record I hated that movie too - and I don't blame Rob Hardy for it, but the movie was garbage. Another teen dance movie gene spliced with stepping. That's it. So I consistently hate on corporate vehicles trying to use our culture - not just Sprite. I don't blame the participants as I said earlier but the competition is hot jungle sweltering garbage.

Yup. They've been casting here for the past two weeks. They're shooting the "stomp/stepshow" scene on Sunday, and they want everyone to wear the school colors of Purple and Gold. <---Thinks it should be called "Stomp the Yard 2: Revenge of the Flying Negro"

Are they filming @ CAU again (they'd have to right? I mean, to at least keep the architecture consistent)?
I remember the hulabaloo from them filming on campus there the 1st time. The AUC was gridlocked for months!

Apparently Sprite Step-Off has a 1/2 show on MTV2. It came on yesterday at 3PM EST
They are following 3 frat team and 3 Sororitity teams: APhiA;KAPsi;PBS;AKA;DST and Zeta...Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha is a white sorority that is competing. I erased the show from my DVR when one of the AKA's on the show said "They're using the steps WE TAUGHT THEM in the competition"
VP called this coonery ^^^ way back in the beginning.

Man, I was watching MTV this weekend and they had an episode of True Life called "I'm Stepping" and the winner of the sorority division was Omega Psi THETA (latinas). I think it was the Sprite competition.
I was all day wrong on this bullshyt. Shoulda rolled with VP from jump. Screen print that ish because you know I don't say that often....LOL.

Thought it was foolishness from the beginning. ROLLING EYES @ BK's (Happy 91? My bad...DANG! LOL) statement about my Sorors & ZTA. UGH.
