I think that instead of constantly starting random threads, i'll share my stuff here. lol.
For today....
ok, so everyone knows i''m afraid to drive across the Memphis bridge (or any other bridge for that matter), so lemme tell yall what happened yesterday.
You know how something can happen and you get lost in your thoughts.? That was me. So I'm riding along the slab, paying attention to the other drivers, but not the signs. Next thing i know, i snap out of my thoughts and i'm in the middle of the damn bridge. Never mind that i was perfectly fine before i realized where i was. Can you say AUTOMATIC PANIC? Big sign says DO NOT PULL OVER ON BRIDGE. I pulled over. Sitting there. Shaking. Scared as hell. About 3 minutes later, a policeman shows up. Our conversation went a lil something like this:
Officer: Ma'am, is everything ok?
Me: bridge
Officer: Yes ma'am this is the bridge that leads into Arkansas.
Me: Water. Bridge.
Officer: Ma'am are you alright?
Me: Trucks. Big trucks.
Officer: Ma'am, have you been drinking? Can you step out of the car?
I'm just sitting there, felt like i was half dreaming, half awake. He calls another car and when it gets there, two cops are in it. One of them is like, what's going on?
Officer 1: I came across her car over on the side of the road so i stopped.
O2: Well, what's wrong with her? Ma'am, you can't be on the side of the bridge like this. it's against the law. Didn't ya see the signs.
O1: I say we just take her in. I think she's been drinking.
By now, tears are flowing down my face. I really can't do bridges, you guys. I shut down completely. The cop facing me sees me.
O3: Ma'am, are you alright? Don't worry, we aren't gonna take you in. But you have to drive on.
Me: (finally finding my voice) I can't.
O3: Is something wrong with your car?
P*
why the first asshole didn't ask me that, i don't know
P*
Me: Bridge. Trucks.
O2: Hot damn, she's afraid!!
O3: Ma'am if it's alright with you, i'll drive you on through.
Me: I need to get back to the Memphis side.
O3: We'll get off and back on a the first exit. Is that alright with you?
Of course i said yea, so he drives me across and back. I'm like, "Why ol boy gotta automatically assume i'm drunk? He's like "Ignore him. He just likes to arrest people." We get back to the other side, exit on Riverside Dr. When I get out to get in the driver seat, O2 & O3 are like, "Alright now, stay away from those bridges." They drive one way, i go the other and the end.
Another crazy day in the life of Chal. lol

Chal, i am so sorry, because i'm laughing so hard at that right now! I'm afraid of some random stuff myself, so i understand, but i have never nearly been arrested over any of it. what is wrong with that officer???

My mother told me years ago that she was afraid to drive over bridges-the water;thinking the bridge was swaying etc A frien
Of hers led her across the bridge by telling her to just look at his bumper as she drove over the bridge.
That's what helped her.
What I do is sing whatever is on the radio really loudly;not look at the sides and drive in the middle
Lane.

BK, thanks. Those actually make sense. Now if I could make myself try them. Lol. That still leaves the trucks though. I have a major fear of them because when I was 7, one pushed us into the guardrail when we were travelling to Florida. I’ve feared them ever since.

<----also has some interesting phobias Chal-I;m just glad that the officer was understanding enough to drive you over the bridge. Fear can be so paralyzing, and it's easy to say "get over it" but with atrue phobia, it is not that serious. I have a fear of small enclosed spaces, especially high up, say an elevator. I have literally had my heart speed up ridiculously fast, gotten dizzy, nauseous and felt like I was going to pass out on cue while in an elevator, either because it was too tiny with too many people, or I was alone or with very few people and it decided to get stuck  And i will be standing there hoping no one notices that I am a nervous mess. Getting stuck in elevators in general, not a good look for me, and it happened several times  |

But how you gon' pull over on the bridge, tho? Lol. See, Leja, you just made the “Not my friend list" for today. I can hear the laughter in that question. I panicked, dagnabit. I HAD to pull over. Lol. I can understand that completely, Diva. I was once stuck in an elevator for 3 hours when I was in school. When they finally got it open, I was sitting on my jacket with my books and papers spread out doing homework. lol. |

Ok, Saturday, the 19th, Chal went to her sister’s birthday party. She knew from the people there, everything was NOT gonna be all good. Sure enough, at around 3, 3:30, an argument breaks out over music. It escalates into a “my nuts are bigger than yours” type thing, with people claiming sets and hoods and all other kinds of bs. So while the “arguing” is going on. Chal quietly goes into the back room, takes of her dress and heels, puts on some shorts, a t-shirt, socks, and tennis shoes. Chal then brushes her carefully laid hair back into a ponytail and removes all of her jewelry. Returning to the front, she sees that the arguing has escalated to body bumping and head mugging. Chal pushes her way to the middle of the crowd and says in an extremely loud voice, “Any and everybody got a problem can leave. If you have a problem with that, I’m right here. Come see me.” The “other” guys were like, “We cool. We cool, “ but there was one chick who felt like she had to make or prove some kinda point. Heffa walks in Chal’s face screaming and yell, talking about, “Make me leave. Make me leave. You bad, put me out of this mothafucka.” Ok. Chal’s gonna give her the benefit of the doubt. She’d been drinking and the crowd was hype. Chal says, “Lil girl, get out of my face.” Chick goes, “fuck you, hoe. Make me leave.” She pushes Chal and before she pull her arms back, she has fallen back into the crowd, her arms now covering her face. Chal hears a voice saying, “If anybody jump in it, you go catch a hole in ya.”So there’s just a crowd of people standing around watching because 1, Chal’s folks know better than to grab her when she fighting, and 2, the “other” guys were scared to do anything because of Chal’s cousin’s threat. Next thing you know, Chal hears a voice laughing and saying, “ I can’t take you no where.” Then she feels some arms around her waist pulling her backwards. Somebody went outside where a lot of the guys were out back chilling and told Baby I was inside fighting. damn it. I was finally having fun and he had to come ruin it.
Ah well. That’s another crazy day in the life of Chal. lol

I am afraid of bridges too. I can drive across, but I like to get off of them as fast as possible. It was kind of counterproductive to pull over though, Chal.  |

You guys have no Idea. I'm not AFRAID of bridges. I'm TERRIFIED!!!!. You can threaten to put me out the car on a bridge and i'll straighten up so fast you won't know what hit ya. lol Once i realized i was on the bridge, I had to stop driving. I would have cause a 100 car pile up or something. Trust me when I say pulling over was the best thing for me to do. |
