Ok, I just did a search on meaning of the word "Muslim" and this is what I found according to Microsoft Word 2007 resources:
"relating to the followers of Islam or to areas, cultures, or activities in which followers of Islam are especially numerous"
So a person who was born and raised in, lets say Saudia Arabia, but is a Chrisitan would be a Muslim Chrisitan.
So based off that definition, we are both right Damie.

www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/muslimMain Entry: Mus·lim Pronunciation: \ˈməz-ləm, ˈmu̇s-, ˈmu̇z-\ Function: noun Etymology: Arabic muslim, literally, one who submits (to God) Date: circa 1615 1 : an adherent of Islam 2 : black muslim— Muslim adjective Respectfully - I have not yet seen a definition or source that says an individual (not an area, not a city, not an incorporated township - but an individual) can be considered muslim while simultaneously not an adherant to the Islamic faith.
An area can certainly be considered muslim (by population), Saudi Arabian culture might certainly be thought of as a muslim culture. Hajj would certainly be considered a muslim activity. But none of those are people.
Living in Saudia Arabia, partaking of the local culture, no more makes you muslim, than living in America and partaking of the culture automatcially makes you Christian - even if the culture and community around you is considered Christian.

As you and I have both demonstrated, there are various definitions to this word, so neither one of us are wrong, Damie. When looking at the word Muslim from an ethnic background, it is equivlant to Arab to me, just as most people automactically assume that Arab means the person is an adherent of Islam.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here, just a matter of preference.

On the opposite end of the spectrum I think there is a right and wrong answer, (not with definition of Muslim), but with the term "Muslim Christian".
That notwithstanding I readily acknowledge that right of everyone to hold whatever view they choose and so I gracefully agree to disagree and bow out of the thread.

I'm late with this but it touched home base for a reason:
There is a correct answer and it belongs to AKAD in this segment. There is such a person as a Christian Muslim, although it is rare and often times not spoken. I remember watching a special on Christian network about Christians in the Middle East. There were folks who considered themselves Muslim because they kept to cultural and religions aspects. However, they professed Jesus as savior.
This is not to be confused with Muslims in countries where they are forced to practice Islam, but in their private homes reject it because they profess Christianity.
Of course the Christian muslim in more controversial than the Christian Jew because Jesus was a Jew Muhummad was not. However one musn't forget that Christians believe Jesus is God. Muslims do not believe Muhummad is God.but the final profit. The relationship or importance is kind of similar too the whole Catholicism-Mary situation where folks think Catholics worship Mary because they pray to her and lift her up above other humans...type thing.
Christian Jews which are technically called( Messianic Jews or Jews for Jesus/Jews for Christ) are much more popular and spread about. We had a bunch who would worship at our church about once month when I was a child. I loved when they came in. Their services are more ceremonial and involved a lot of dances as a form of praise. Also they brought in the traditional instruments. I loved it!

Why do we as "Christians" bash what we do not understand?
|
|
|
Post by LejaOMG on Oct 16, 2009 10:56:53 GMT -5
Because a great many "Christians" do not know enough about their own religion to intelligently discuss what difference in theology they may have with another group. Often, this lack of self-awareness creates self-doubt and manifests as "bashing"

I'll give you peace when the storm is raging. I'll be your light when the road ahead seems dim. I have the power. Just put your trust in Me. Anything you need, have faith indeed. Just ask, just ask in My name.
I am the Lord, I can move all mountains. I'll be your strength when you're weary, weak, and worn. Believe in My promise. Cast all your cares upon Me. Anything you need, have faith indeed. Just ask, just ask in MY name.
In My name all things are possible. I'm able to do the impossible. I'n My name all can come boldly before Me. Yes, in My name.

Lord, I am tired and I am weak but I know you're with me. Sometimes I'm down cant carry on but I keep holding on because i know You're strong in me
And I know that you are not through with me yet and if I do your will I know your blessing I'll get I am Your child. You are my light For You I live And give my all to You I give all praise to you
Oh Lord, I want to be in that number when You come again, oh Lord Oh Lord I want to be one of the chosen few that will hear You say "Well done." "Well done. Well done." I wanna hear you say to me "Well done. Well done." "Oh, My house is your home, and I say to you well done."

I looked in the mirror and what did I see I saw the same young lady with a different personality Trying to make a new start, it's time to look ahead With God on my side I'll do just what He said If I follow Him and obey the Master's Will He promised in His Word a blessing He will give Now that I know I've finally realize That a change is coming my way.
Gotta look ahead and leave the past behind I know in His arms comfort I will find I know I've made mistakes that aren't easy to erase but by His saving Grace I know I'll find my way If I follow Him and obey the Master's Will He promised in His Word a blessing He will give Now that I know I've finally realize That a change is coming my way.
On Christ the Solid Rock I stand only the ground will be sinking sand You can't stop me, I've made my choice I gotta get it together and get my just rewards Now that I know I've finally realize That a change is coming my way. It's so good so sweet to know and finally realize That a change is coming my way

Pastor's son abused the daughter of one of the church members. Pastor has the nerve to get up and say, "As Christians, we look out for our own. We do not testify against our brothers and sisters. We stand behind them." This is one of the reasons I'm leaving this particular church. Son or not, that boy was wrong, but do you know what he said? He said, " Why would I believe a couple of little kids over my son?" That child has the marks and bruises to prove it.
That boy needs to be behind bars. He seriously tortured that lil girl.
