I was so sad that the hair care thread from OO went down with the board. There was so much good info in there.
But for the last week or so I've been wearing a wash-n-go styled in some way. I really like small braids and small twists...anything bigger looks really scalpy and I can't stands it, lol. I love a good twist out or braid out that I can wear for a week.
My main goals for now are: 1. have healthy hair...no split ends, no dandruff, and no ridiculous itching. I'm not too pressed about length because I know it will come. 2. finding a good spritz for the morning so I won't have to do another (co) wash-n-go to get my hair right. 3. grow out the heat damaged hair completely because it's throwing off my styling, lol

I was wearing a fro. All of a sudden my hair started breaking off in the back. I am now wearing a weave to help it get back health. But I have no chemicals.

BUNNY, I KNOWWW... Actually there's a lot of stuff over there. I am so mad I didnt copy half that stuff. Im was thinking about contacting stop hazing and asking him to put the site up for at least 24 hours. Man I would run through there so fast. LOL
I am not up on dandruff or itching, but I know keeping your ends trimmed art important. Also my hair grew the most when I had no heat in it and very minimal products.
Are you a fan of no-poo method?

I don't know what it was. I was rocking a beautiful fro. Used some Miss Jessies, started coming out in clumps. I don't htink it was stress. My life is pretty stress free. I thought it was the collar to my wool coat but that couldn't be it because it was coming out right in the middle not the nape.

Im was thinking about contacting stop hazing and asking him to put the site up for at least 24 hours. Man I would run through there so fast. LOL I actually tried that, lol. I just asked if he could send me the posts and I'd comb through it myself. SH never responded to my e-mail I am not up on dandruff or itching, but I know keeping your ends trimmed art important. Also my hair grew the most when I had no heat in it and very minimal products. I pressed my hair for 12 our of 16 months of my transition (I wish I had stopped long before then). But as soon as I stopped flat ironing my hair the dandruff went away and I haven't seen it since. I thought that was the weirdest thing ever! The itching usually comes when I need a good wash and it's at the top of my head. Are you a fan of no-poo method? I kind of like no-poo. I'll do it in between shampoo washes but I can't depend on it to do what shampoo does. I just feel like my hair isn't clean

using conditioner or something else to wash your hair. Some folks use baking soda or do some type of rinse to clean their hair.

KD, did you consult your dermatologist? It may be a mild case of alopecia.
Bunnyhop, LOL @ SH. He rarely ever responds . Man I really need to start a petition to get some of that old stuff finished.
I did strictly no poo for almost year. It worked well. I stopped when I started getting my hair pressed again. I did a deep cleansing with banking soda like once quarterly. THAT STUFF WILL GET YOUR HAIR SQUEAKY CLEAN. But my hair is very thick. My stylist said I have 2 strands of hair to where others have one.
HONESTLY I can't tell that my hair is that thick until I try to do it myself. So I have to be EXTRA careful to get the baking soda out. Im thinking about going back to all natural for 2009 for the entire year (no press or heat). If so I will have to find another deep cleanser, because the baking soda can get very time consuming with thick hair.

Are you a fan of no-poo method? Not to interrupt, but I e-mailed StopHazing a couple of weeks ago for that very reason. There is alot of good information on the board and it would be great to have access to it. He said that he still plans to try to recover the board, perhaps after New Years...he's just busy right now.

I just got my first two-strand twist! I didn't like it at first, but I got a TON of compliments. The woman I see every morning at the coffee shop said I looked "sassy". When I removed the twists and wore it kind of crinkly and free-flowing, I think it looked like something out of a magazine. My family absolutely HATES it. My mom told me flat-out, "I'll be glad when you start wearing your hair straight again. It makes you look better". My cousin asked me at Thanksgiving, "How long you gonna keep this style?" They are used to straight hair.

the one thing that my mom has said that annoyed me the most was "So when is this phase going to be over? *laugh*" And this was in front of my, at the time, new boyfriend. Out of all the stuff I've told her I don't know why she thought saying that was ok and that it was funny.
But I'm slowly getting to the point where I don't really talk to her about hair. I don't talk to most folks about hair anyway and I'm not the one to bring it up.

I'm natural-lite
I don't have a perm, but I tex-lax once every 8 months or so just for GP. Also, I wear my hair heat-straightened or weaved (a new thing, but I swear by 'em now!)...It's verrrry rare that I am just rocking a wash n go

I thought I had the most coarse, nappy, kinky, knotty hair on earth before I went natural. After I did, I realized that it is actually kind of soft and wavy--and the very front of my head is a totally different texture--I can actually get it ALMOST straight if I wet it, gel it and tie it with a scarf for a while (probably a 3C texture). Because of this, I don't heat-straighten my hair at all. Since I want it to be kind of curly-wavy, I'm afraid that the heat will permanently damage my hair and loosen the curl pattern.
Someone I know with very, very kinky hair says she heat-straightens hers, and it loosens up the curl pattern--but she doesn't mind, because it makes her kinky hair a little more wavy.

These producta are WONDERFUL for natural hair of any texture. My hairstylist is great friends with Jane and endorses her products... www.janecartersolution.comThe TWIST N LOCK is about $18 for 4-6 oz but its worth it in between hair appointments (for us loc wearers)

I LOVE IT VIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO you feel totally confident? Are you happy not to have to deal with all the hair cair struggles on a daily basis? I know I would. I was thinking about doing a big chop again for my 5th but I let it ride. I will revisit it again some time next year. I'll probably leave an inch on though.

$18 for 4-6 oz?!? goodness, lol. Some of these products just cost too much and are too hard to find in some places and I'm not a fan of ordering online. I went to my alma mater's graduation and 2 people told me they were transitioning. I thought it was kind of funny because before they acted like "ooooooohhhhh I can't even do it because my head is too big, my hair is nappy (duh!!), I don't have good hurr , etc." Then you see them again and it's another story, lol.

I had been thinking about going natural. As it is, I only straighten my hair every 6 months and it is naturally curly. I can wet it and put some product in it and it stays curly. I wear it curly more than straight now anyway so I was thinking about it. It is perm time so I think I am going to try and go natural. I talked to my line sister this morning and found out that she has been natural for 2 years. She has extremely long and thick hair, so if she can do it, I know I can.
What are some products that you all use? What are your favorites and what do they do? Give me some direction...

Well, that's one of the more expensive items. I also use the revitalizing condtioner spray& the natural locking spray which is $8 for for 8oz (each product)

I want to cut my locs off.....they are not looking the way I want them to look. I wanted them to be skinner. *sad face* Locing isn't for everyone. You have to dedicate yourself to it. I feel very strongly about this due to my rasta background, but locs are not a fashion statement (even tho mine look damn good). But you have to have that dedication to have that patience to see it to the end....i'm not sure how long your hair is but I can tell you this for sure, if they are shorter than shoulder length they are not half way looking like how they will look. You AND your hair have to adopt to the lifestyle that is being locked. It takes time. My hair is JUST now...after 3 years at their fullest potential. I'm now a little past shoulder length. So, my only advice to you is, if you do not think you can handle the commitment....cut them off....It wasn't a move for you...

I love my locs!!!!! I have the dedication to go on, but I wanted them to look a little skinner than what they are. Right now I have hair that swells. Ummm...I never wanted them to be just a fashion statement...so I don't know where you got that idea.
However...I just wanted to have more styling options...I can stick it out, I was just fustrated that I could get my hair to do a style I wanted.
