LOL @ hair that swells.... its going to do that until your hair gets trained into the loc...fully....Trust me. MOF, you've been on the board for a while...do you not remenber my locs from a whule back? (if not I can let you see my picture hair journal) It just "be's like that sometimes".
And I know you didn't say the fashion statement thing but I get that so very often. Women want to get locs cause they think they'll be cute on them but don't want to wait until they get to their fullest potential. They don't realize that having locs is a lifestyle and a big commitment. I was just expressing my hatred of that thought.
And chile the styling will come. Ask everyone that lived in my dorm the night i realize my hair was long enough to pull back into a pony tail! Girl I went NUTS! I always had long thick hair...i could do things wit my hair that made the other ghetto weave wearing heffa SO MAD! LOL! I changed my style everyday...so going for years on end not being able to do anything drove me crazy!!!
But NOW I pin and twist my hair up almost everyday!
Patience is a virtue grasshoppa! LOL!

It does swell...I hate it. Especially after I workout when I sweat. Yes I do! Its cool..no love lost. I hate when women don't want to commit to locs, and I have heard the horror stories. LOL!
I can almost get a ponytail, but I think I will need another 6 months of locing before it does that. Right now I just rock it with a head band, because I hate hair in my face.

I want to cut my locs off.....they are not looking the way I want them to look. I wanted them to be skinner. *sad face* I can definitely empathize. I was locing for 10 months and decided to take them down. I always knew that I liked to switch it up a bit but thought I'd give it a try. Since I experienced transitioning and chopping the relaxer out, I figured I'd be able to handle another transition process if necessary. I considered going for broke & cutting them off, but after reading a thread on Nappturality, I decided to take them down instead. With a hook doohickey thingy from the craft section, Suave's Coconut conditioner, a spray bottle and patience, I was able to take them down and retained the length. So now I switch it up between twist-outs, braid-outs, ponytails, wash n go's (a somewhat favorite) and blow drying/flatironing (twice so far).

I was so sad that the hair care thread from OO went down with the board. There was so much good info in there. But for the last week or so I've been wearing a wash-n-go styled in some way. I really like small braids and small twists...anything bigger looks really scalpy and I can't stands it, lol. I love a good twist out or braid out that I can wear for a week. My main goals for now are: 1. have healthy hair...no split ends, no dandruff, and no ridiculous itching. I'm not too pressed about length because I know it will come. 2. finding a good spritz for the morning so I won't have to do another (co) wash-n-go to get my hair right. 3. grow out the heat damaged hair completely because it's throwing off my styling, lol I "spritz" my hair every morning and at night with a glycerin and water mix. Very plain and simple. It assists is keeping moisture. Does pretty good IMO...

Anyone have hair color? What have you used and liked or didn't like?
I haven't had any color since going natural so I'm going to finally try henna this weekend. I ordered it last month and it's been sitting on top of my tv since then so I'm finally going to try it. I figure it'll keep me busy Saturday.

I've been wanting to loc, but I don't have the patience...nor do I keep the same hairstyle for long. I said if I ever got engaged I would loc until my wedding. Welllll....that came sooner than I thought. LOL So now I said...well if I get pregnant I will loc. LOL I can see me pushing it off (if) then too. It takes a lot of dedi.
I am seriously thinking about going no heat for all of 2009. I'll just go back on the no-poo method with montly co-poos. I will have my ends clipped every 6 weeks and keep it moving. My hair was the healthiest this way.
My new stylist is trying to get me to use a texturizer. Sigh..... That's still a chemical right.....
But eventually I will dye my hair. That will be a chemical. Well there are those natural ones, but I heard they don't last as well.
BUNNY let me know how the henna goes.....

right now in the thought process of thinking about growing my relaxer out-- just tired and bored with my hair at this time. Not sure what i want to do with it-- it has been about 4 months since i had a touch- up. I am going through a lot of thoughts right now. at one point I thought about getting braids but the last time I got them done my hair broke off. Not sure if it was the braids, or even the lady that put them in

My dreds are averaging about two feet long right now...i dont blow dry my hair since it makes your hair brittle, and considering how long i would have to blow dry my hair to dry it, theyd be falling out left and right. So i gotta just wring it out like a mop and play the waiting game...two days to totally dry aint that bad for winter...
I do dreds as a side hustle...When it comes to growing out perms to dred...thats a rough adjustment because most times you have to cut the permed hair out, since permed hair will not dred properly. (I have seen it done and I dont reccomend it...they look terrible and they dont lock). My suggestion is to switch to braids for awhile and let your hair grow...

I've been doing the weave thing awhile and I love it, but...I want to do something else for awhile. I'mma just rock a straight-up fairy bush for the next month or so...my Black History Month statement, lol
After that, iono. I'm pretty anti-braids at this point

I did not know that people blow dry locs. How long does that take? I think if I ever loced I'd start from braids or coils but I'm gonna give myself 5 years of loose hair before I make the decision. I get kind of jealous at all the updos people with locs do, lol.

I washed my locs, and then cornrowed them to get the wavy effect. Here is what my hair looks like (minus the color):

did a sew in over the summer-- did not really like it- could have been the hair i chose-- Outre Velvet Remi Yaki (but it looked my like a super straight version) than anything else) I am thinking about that might want to try the curly styles. Could someone please give me some suggestions on the best quality of hair where i wont look like a china doll or even like someone licked my head.

I cut all my perm off. I'm extremely confident so it was nothing to me. I went from having long thick straight hair to a low fade! AND I LOVED IT! Got me some big hoop earrings and was on my way! This is what I call the REAL way....i say this because the other method leaves too much room for renigging!

not that confident at this point. my hair has just gotten to a very healthy state where it is very thick and everything like that. just since i am in the middle of studetn teaching at this time, i really cant afford to get it done every week or even 2 weeks at this point once I put a relaxer in, might go back. I do believe that you can have extremely healthy hair with a relaxer

I have always worn Beverly Johnson, Milky Way, and Freetress. They tend to have some very nice styles. I also have a very nice wig and falls collection.

I do believe that you can have extremely healthy hair with a relaxer I agree with you about having healthy hair with a relaxer. There are ust as many bad permed heads as there are un-permed heads, lol. You don't have to do a big chop. I transitioned for 16 months and then cut the rest of the relaxed ends off. I just didn't want really short hair. When I got my hair cut I ended up with about 5-6 inches of hair since she cut some of the new growth of to make sure there were no straight ends. There's no one way to go natural and no way is better than the other, you just have to do what's best for you....after all it's your head!!
