Thanks for the link Huey. there are so many picture of so many sizes.
I said I'd give myself 5 years of loose hair before I put serious thought into locing but by that time I might be to in love with my hair. Sisterlocs are pretty but they are just sooo tiny and the maintenance is pricey. I'd have to get another job just to pay for it, lol.

I'm going to straighten my hair this weekend ONLY so I can get a good, even trim. My ends are a MESS. My hair was so healthy until I dyed it. Everyone's hair is different, and many natural folks I know have dyed their hair with no issues. Maybe I did it wrong--that was the first time I ever dyed my hair. The dye has made my hair SOOOOOOOO tangled. Before I dyed it, I could put conditioner in it, and comb through it in the shower. Now it takes FOREVER to detangle. Also, before the dye, it would curl up in little spirals. Now it just frizzes up in rough little puffs. You can actually see a difference in the health of the dyed portion versus the undyed portion. I won't do that again. I might go get a few PROFESSIONAL highlights, but I'll never do an at-home box color myself again. Despite all this, the style I'm wearing right now is actually extremely cute. I'm wearing a twist-out.

The colors can be a little limiting depending on the color of your and the process is long (IMO) but I like how my hair turned out and I have much less shedding. I did hear Textures and Tones was a good color for natural hair though. I stare at the boxes every time I go to the store, lol

My hair is VERY dark and hard-to-color. Always has been. The first time I dyed it--with a light, permanent dye--it didn't even look like I'd put anything in it. I dyed it a SECOND time, and it looks like I had a slight, reddish-brown rinse. So henna would probably be a waste of time. Plus, I hear it's a BEAST to rinse out of your hair.

It can be. The first time I did it it took forever and a day to rinse out and my hair was so freakin dry. I had a funny orange color. I did it again Saturday and it came out quick and easy. I was shocked, lol. Now it has a little more of a red tint to it. I think it depends on what you mix it with (I learned that the hard way).
But I understand about the dark hair color. My stylist would have to lighten my hair and then put the color on. It came out great but that was two salons visits and more money. When it came to the point where I was paying for my hair that wasn't even an option.

I went to a hair show. It was fun. I'd never seen so much curly, kinky and coily hair in one place. It was so good to see. And I got some cute earrings.

ACV (apple cider vinegar) and some product lines have rinses.

Oh yeah, that's right!! You ladies inspired me to go natural as well! Last summer when I was reading about how healthy some of you guy's hair was, and how much you wished you would have done it sooner, I decided to go natural as well! I haven't had a perm since December 2007! I keep my hair in twists and braids, and every 2 or 3 cycles of "taking out, putting in" I'll straighten it to see how long its gotten...this is the longest my hair has EVER been!

If people keep recommending curly hair stuff to me are they trying to tell me something? Do they not like my frizzy, undefined hurr? Am I wrong for not spending $50 on stuff to define my curls and not wanting to stand and rake that stuff through my hair?
LOL...I smirk and laugh whenever I get something like this. Hopefully I will find a nice way of saying "when I want your advice I will ask for it...until then please stay out of my follicles."
