Damie, a strategist just confirmed what you said about women being offended by McCain thinking that women will vote for him just because Palin is a woman. The female strategist said that women were backing Hillary because of what she stood for, not because she is a woman. She said she finds it offensive that they think women will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket just because Palin is a woman.

She is no Joe Biden and she is definitely no Hillary Clinton. She should feel like an ass that the only reason she was really chosen is because she is a woman. Not because she is the best person for the position, but simply because she is a woman and McFossil is trying hard to show up Obama. In my opinion she IS the token.

The female strategist said that women were backing Hillary because of what she stood for, not because she is a woman. She said she finds it offensive that they think women will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket just because Palin is a woman. In a perfect world that maybe the case but lets look at this. Lets say there was an Alpha and a Omega running for office. You backed the Alpha but he lost. Then another Alpha ran on the other ticket running on a platform that you didn't agree with. Wouldn't you vote for him because even though his issues are not akin to yours he seems more accessible. You maybe able to lean on him to the point that he could change somethings to accommodate you. This is what Mccain is counting on. Even though Palin is a conservative (which he needed to reach out to the conservatives in his on party) women may see her as accessible. That her gender may trump the issues and she under obligation to womanhood or just through sheer pressure by public opinion can be swayed to tackle some of the things that women in this country want. I say it was and is a very smart move and he may win because of it. Besides I'm not into white chicks but Palin can get it. She has the High School Math Teacher look who strips on the weekends... LOL

Another allegation involving the Bridge to Nowhere
Dubbed the “Bridge to Nowhere,” the bridge in Alaska would connect the town of Ketchikan (population 8,900) with its airport on the Island of Gravina (population 50) at a cost to federal taxpayers of $320 million... ...At present, a ferry service runs to the island, but some in the town complain about its wait (15 to 30 minutes) and fee ($6 per car).
www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/wm889.cfm
Some are saying that she helped to expose this project but other are alleging Palin waited until last September to pull the plug on the bridge, only after funding was denied...not before then.
More to come

If an Alpha and an Omega are running for a position and the Alpha lost, I would not necessarily back the new Alpha just because he is an Alpha...especially if his platform is one I don't agree with. If the Omega is more in line with what I agree with than my Alpha brother, then I would vote for the Omega.
It would be like saying that a black person is running against a white person and I am backing the black person. Then he/she loses and another black person is running but I don't agree with his/her platform. I wouldn't back that person just because they are black.
As far as Palin's looks go, she ain't all that. I see better looking white women all the time.

Politicians take high risks when they are in trouble and they know it. Obama's lead has stretched out to 9 points in the latest gallup poll... even with the attacks, even without the Clintons campaigning, even with GOP operatives trying desperately all week to spin the campaign (and it should be noted that attacking a candidate during his/her convention is a NEW thing - as best I recall no campaign has done it before - not even Bush) Obama up 9.
Palin - high risk choice. Why? Because McCain knows he's in trouble. It is a GOOD day to be a Democrat. McCain just jumped the shark with that pick.

This pick was not about helping McCain in leadership (as she has very little experience) - it was ALL about trying desperately to find a way to stay relevant. If a gimmick VP choice is all you can do - it's time to bow out. I think Obama might even get more of a bump after this pick.
Republicans are trying to spin it as a great pick - and you can tell they are straining to do it.

The lobbyist with money from special interest groups do. Anybody can be swayed and everyone has a price ESPECIALLY if it will help there constituents. If you are the average American with no special interest groups backing you, then it will make no difference. But if you have those special interest groups behind you and the monetary clout to go with it, then your leaning will make a difference.

The fact that he was an elected official and you weren't wouldn't matter. But having testicles or in this case having ovaries doesn't make you accessible anymore than having melanin makes you accessible to other people who have melanin.
McCain is basically saying - I have a woman on my ticket - she has the least amount of experience of all of us, she stands against most of what you think is important, but she's a woman... so now your vote is for me.
If you all don't think that's insulting - change out the word woman for African American and see if it resonates for you. Republicans weakness is that they think everyone else in the world thinks like them. They see the world through groups and categories and assume everyone else does.
The same reason they have been alleging that the ONLY reason black people have been supporting Barack because he's black is the same reason why they believe women will vote for McCain because he has Palin on the ticket. For them issues don't matter - it's caricatures, sound bytes, and stage craft. It doesn't even occur to them that we seriously care about issues.
It's the reason why I DIDN'T vote for Michael Steele when he ran for Senate - even though he's black and his opponent is white. If McCain had somehow selected Colin Powell - then yeah - you have a barn burner ticket and no one would deny it.
But less than 2 years Palin? No way. Gimmick. And I think (just MO) that women are going to be insulted by it -the same way I'd be insulted if Barack had lost and then to try to win votes (not speak to issues - but to win votes) McCain selected Alan Keyes as his running mate.
He miscalculated on this one in my opinion.

He miscalculated on this one in my opinion. If it were true what you were stating then the lobbyist game would be naught. Who you are is what will sway you. Public Opinion is EVERYTHING in politics. Lobbyist use tactics that tug at the heart of the public official. For instance... Look at the hecklers with the What about the Black Community Obama banners. If he didn't give a fuck he wouldve brushed it off. In the eye of the public Opinion he might have taken a hit. He had to address it. He had to answer. The same tactics that we use in the frat are the same tactics that are used in Washington but to the 1,000th power. Money Sex Drugs Businesses all come into play. Give us this and we will give you that. Usually its something that will make the public official look good on the outside but what he helps pass will fuck people in the long run. This is American Politics.

Dope was everywhere. Scandals. But this mofo was charismatic as hell and STILL made white America and some black folks happy to be Americans. Politics is like getting pussy. If you speak right you will get to fuck everytime regardless of the circumstances. The 8 years Reagan was in office it was far farrrrrr worse than it is now and his Approval rating was sky high.
