I'm PISSED! Smart move but this is such a ploy to appeal to disgruntled Hillary supporters. I'm just fearful that most of them won't recognize this and vote emotionally instead of thinking about the greater good of our country!
ARRRGH!

I hate to say it, but McCain's pick could hurt him more than it could help him. First of all, this chick is no Hillary. Second, I still think that there are many who aren't ready for a woman to be in such a high position. Although Barack is black, he is still a man. But who knows?!

I definitely was not ready for this pick. Honestly, I think there will be some disgruntled female Hilary supporters who will flock to McCain because of it. Smart move, but it may not work the miracle he's thinking.

I'm sure it won't work the miracle yet I bet he's counting on the fact that hard core Hillary supporters and super feminists will be happy with whatever they can get.
*sigh*
Just has to see how this will play out.

Let me give y'all the real deal on the pick of this "girl," as I stated to some of my good Alpha brothers on one of our message boards:
McFossil just took a dump...and then STEPPED in it with this pick! I mean...who is this woman? If he thought he'd get Hillary voters with her, I think he struck out. Let's look at it:
Many, possibly most of Hillary's supporters are on board the democratic nominee after this convention and that sensational speech by Obama last night. The ones that aren't...well. ..don't be fooled by that whole "what it would have meant for a woman" on the ticket. Those die-hards are die-hard FOR HILLARY!!! In their eyes, it was Hilary or bust!! They may just stay at home altogether.
Besides, this Palin girl is an ULTRA right-wing conservative. Is that what Hillary's harpies wanted...someone who's PRO-LIFE, and not conceding on that issue in any way, shape, form, or fashion?
Yepper...I'd say 'ol McFossil has just struck out with this girl...who by the way...has only been in office up there in Alaska since December 2006...not even two years! And they try to rag Obama about his experience.. ... I'd say the democrats chances just increased two, maybe threefold!!!

ok..........where's cam and damie?? I need cam and damie on this one.
this is SUCH a political move that it's not even funny. clearly, Mccain KNOWS he's a SEVERE underdog in this race (especially after last night) so he picks Palin - a person NO ONE KNOWS - as his running mate. He's grasping at straws and, after this move, he STINKS of panic and fear.

It will fail.
If it works then women will be seen as shallow. She is an absolute conservative. If you don't care about healthcare, jobs, sustainable foreign policy, etc...then vote for her and put a woman in the White House. But KNOW that you are sacrificing everything else to do so. You'd better be ready to OWN it.

Wow didn't see this coming. It is a smart move though. But will it work? NO! Trying to slip in the back door to still Hillary's voters may be a little too late. They (Fox) says that we'll have to get to know her and all this jive but I bet 90% of the Rep. Senate has never heard of this lady. Get to know her? Before Nov 4th? Are they serious? Then comes the experience comparison. To justify it, they are saying Sen. Obama doesn't have the experience either.....I just shake my head and say McCain has lost this race....LOL

This is a gimmick.
When the smoke clears, you will have a 72 year old senator with health problems, partially senile, a bad temper and a rich wife
and
a 44 year old, attractive yet novice governor who has no real experience of anything other than Alaskan oil.
They will be fighting against a powerful ticket.
Then again, lack of substance has never stopped the Republicans from winning before. Just say, "If you vote Democrat, the faggots will win" or "If you vote for Democrats, you're a baby killer" and some shallow minded folks will jump in line like slaves.

Dude he picked her for her gender and her look.....did you all see her...he's trying to appeal to the lust of some of the younger republicans that may jump ship to Obama...he isn't slick.
I googled her and saw that she was on sexiest politicians or something like that. This dude is really grasping at straws.
LOL @ her being under investigation for firing her ex bro in-law....I guess Kwame Kilpatrick isn't the only one that does that stupid mess. :smh:

Yo I'm looking at her wiki page and it seems old girl may have a little substance dont sleep. She has a son in iraq, has a history of filing whistleblower complaints on corruption and financial misuse. When she was mayor she reduced her own salary and dropped property tax. Being in Alaska she operated apart from Big oil and she spearheaded initiatives to promote fighting greenhouse gas pollution and other environmental issues. Old girl has some stuff with her but I think this was definitely calculated and may cause some issues...nothing that can't be overcome but still.

Bribing people to get them to come out and witness this joke!! Looks like the repubbas chickens are coming home to roost!! And when chickens come home to roost, they lay eggs and egg is what McFossil and the repubbas now have all over their faces!!

It's a gimmick and it's obvious - it's a high risk move - but I guess the numbers tell him to take it. Some things to think about:
1. McCain has already opposed equal pay legislation - now it's REALLY going to be a topic for discussion. www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/23/mccain-opposes-equal-pay-_n_98342.html thinkprogress.org/2008/05/07/mccain-equal-pay-girl/
2. Apparently McCain is unaware of the BIGOTRY in his OWN party. If you had a reason to pause before voting for Obama because he's black - NOW you have a reason to pause before you vote for McCain - because his VP is a woman. McCain apparently doesn't realize that the strength of his party (for many years) has been it's lack of diversity - the fact that it could feel comfortable in views and biases - because they all had them - now you're asking them to take in an "outsider" - hasn't that been how they've been trying to paint Obama - not one of us? Not an American loving white male?
3. Palin is (as I understand it) a fairly likeable person has a really compelling story (she has a child with learning disabilities that's she's worked hard to care for) - but McCain just threw the experience card out the window - she has LESS than 2 years as governor
4. McCain gets no edge in any battleground states (Michigan, Florida, Minnesota) with this pick where he certainly would have if he had picked Romney, Crist, or Pawlenty
5. This pick might energize some Hillary supporters who were dead set against Obama, but it doesn't really rally McCain supporters - all week the talk has been about Romney, Pawlenty, and Crist - if you were hoping for one of the three - you are disappointed right now. If you are a bigot (and if you're in the GOP you are) McCain just threw away the safe pick and is forcing you to hold your nose when voting for him. 75,000 people are NOT going to pack a stadium over this pick.
6. Did I mention already that the GOP is the party of white men? After the GOP has dart-boarded Hillary for years - you think they're going to embrace a woman themselves? A woman who, with only 2 years experience, could VERY likely become President given McCain's age? The only way they can accept her as one of the guys is for her to "act like one of the guys" - to think like they do - and I don't think that'll work
7. I honestly think McCain over-reached on this one. The WORST thing you can do is patronize people - and I think after the media finishes introducing Palin to America and relaying her positions - alot of women will be insulted by the implication that because Palin is female McCain believes he will get your vote regardless of what his positions are.
8. The political argument that Joe Biden is ready to be President doesn't even have to be made. After last night and this convention, and how Barack has been shown to be right over and over again on Foreign policy - I don't think we have to ask the question is he ready. Nor would we have to make this conversation if Hillary was on the ticket. She was ready. Palin? Does anyone believe that less than 2 years as governor is experience enough to run the country? Expect to hear that theme. Expect the McCain camp to explain this ad nauseum. Expect Palin to, perhaps unfairly, be asked most frequently the question about Roe V Wade and if she supports it.
9. I don't know if I mentioned this but - isn't the GOP the party of white males? I wonder what type of effect this will have on the convention? And can Palin overcome her ovaries amongst the testicles and deliver the kind of red meat vitriol that doesn't seem to characterize her short tenure as governor of Alaska - and if she does - doesn't that HURT her image?
10. NOW Hillary has DOUBLE the dog in this race. If anyone thought that secretly she was hoping for Obama to lose so she could run again, if indeed Hillary was that calculating - there is NO WAY - she let's someone else sidle up and take that legacy as a gimmick or a ploy. With McCain being 72 - and right at the age of life expectancy, whoever he picks as VP could wind up being President. Hillary has done all the work - now McCain's VP gets to reap the rewards as a political ploy? I don't think so. I think if Hillary wasn't invested before (and I think she was) I think she is DOUBLY invested now.

I co-sign with Damie on all his points!
McCain and his party has just shot themselves in the foot. You go on and on about Obama lacking experience, but then you pick a person who has only been governor for 2 years to be your VP?
This moves just shows he knows he has a weak stance and he is trying to pull himself up, but this tatic may just hurt him, that is, if people will look over the trees and actually see the forrest.
But then, like Damie said, you will have those who will only want men in the white house (i.e. GOP) and even though Obama is non-white, he is still a man.
This by far, will be very interesting.

And the mud raking has already begun folks Here is the first allegation (note I said allegation) about Palin.
Palin used her office to fire her sisters husband when they were in a custody battle.
Don't know if there's any truth to it, but the stories are already starting to bubble to the surface because she's an unknown product. Let the games begin.

I think the GOP just conceded the election.
I said last night, the best that the GOP can do is INTRODUCE someone who was innovative and fresh for a shot at the NEXT election. That may be what John McCain just did. I thought it was going to be a speaker at the convention like Jindal, but to place a risky pick as VP is ludicrous.
Think about it, this move is almost as if John Kerry turned around after Barack's speech in 2004 and said, no wait, YOU'RE my VP pick! Barack inspired the country with that speech, but there was no way the country as a WHOLE would vote for him as VP or Pres at that time - unknown. The American people had 4 years to let Barack's speech and activities sink in and marinate.
She might be inspirational, she might be the BOMB, but people need time to get to know these people. However, the exposure she will receive from this will only set the stage for her to go against Barack straight up or someone else in 4 years. I don't believe that McCain and the GOP honestly believe that this is going to fly with him being so, frankly, old...
