On a side note, I found CNN's analysis (particularly long time Clinton supporter James Carville) to be negative, short sighted, and jaded. David Gergen and James Carville repeatedly said that they believed the first day of the convention was a waste because the Democrats didn't attack, attack, and attack some more.
Didn't they already establish that the first day was a day was about PERSONAL stories? Particularly with Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama... those are inspirational stories - why would they be attacking when day one was designed to be a biographical (and a much needed one) for middle america? I say good play by the Obama campaign. There'll be plenty of time to attack - and there will be plenty of attack forthcoming.

1. I think Michelles speech was good but not great! She did what she was supposed to do which was BE the First Lady and show that she is intelligent and...well....here we go...ARTICULATE.
2. Fox News is the tent for the Republican Circle Jerk. They often talk about the "Liberal Media" but when you create a network like Fox, other news stations have to balance them out. They are the worst and blatently biased.
3. I pray for Obama to have courage. Some of our sick white brothers and sisters are/will attempt to murder him whether it be politically, personally or eve n physically.
4. Even if I wasn't voting for Obama (which I am) I would be for him in this race. There comes a time when this is about a Black man! fuck political correctness! This man standing up in the face of racist threats on his life, his family, his career, etc...I stand in solidarity with Brother Obama.
5. Once he wins the White House, I will be on his ass to do the right thing just as bad as if he were a Republican. No one deserves or gets a free pass.
Obama/Biden '08!!

They are also the ones who predicted a Clinton victory in February. You know what....as I said in my last post...if I wasn't for Obama before, i'm definately with him now. And the fact that he is a good candidate makes it that much easier to armor up!

I think Michelle didn't have to be great - she just had to show that she was NOT the carciature that the GOP operatives made her out to be. She didn't have to be great - she just had to be normal - and I think she came off more credible than Cindy McCain ever would. I also think they featured Michelle to tell her life story that connects with hard working people because McCain's wife can't.
Secondly - you all might think I'm crazy for saying this but I think it's good that Obama is drawing these crazies out of the wood works. Thank God for it. They will NOT be able to deny the racist undercurrent that has been going on for centuries in America or that fact that it still persists today. Just like Jackie Robinson when he stared down the ugly face of racism then - so too will Barack stare down the death rattling last gasp of a dying belief in racial superiority and hatred today. This just gives him another chance transcend - and HE WILL DO IT.
I just wonder if the media will spend more time critiquing the DNC convention instead of showing the Obamas resolve in the face of adversity

I watched the convention via C-Span on purpose so that I did not get the opinion's of any network. It was great to see that the Southside and Chicago were well represented. In terms of Michelle's speech, it was good, very heartwarming which is something that she wanted to make clear. This whole idea of being anti-patriotic is baffling, what is it that makes Michelle non-patriotic? I think that argument is weak. Then, I heard a McCain supported stated that Michelle did not do a good job of showcasing her husband as the Commander in Chief. I guess that person missed the memo.
Now, tonight will be a very different story and begin to the heart of the matter. Laying out the plan for where Obama would like to take the country.

I think that it was a very emotional night. Especially when Michelle spoke. She made my Mama cry which is something that is very hard to do.

He would have been taking a far more active role in the convention had she won. I think it is sour grapes, because it is not how he would have done it. I think it was nicely done. You got the emotion of Ted Kennedy giving what will probably be his last big speech, the cameras cutting to the Kennedy ladies crying. Then Michelle gets to tell her story. This needed to be done. The racist fringe of the media has painted her as an angry black woman who hates whitey. America got to see what we know her to be, an intelligent woman who loves her family. A lady who learned her family values, work ethic, and discipine from her mother and father. She is middle America and now they can relate to her.

I am a little concerned that the "sour grapes" will get out of hand tonight when Hillary speaks.
..and what is this I hear that Bill Clinton will be speaking on the economy when the focus of Wednesday night is foreign relations? Why is he being different? Not that the economy is not important (In fact that ranks high for me), but if the program has already been set, what gives him the right to change it? Just wondering.

Also one thing I think James Carville missed altogether is the appeal to emotion - the appeal to our collective softer side. This was DECIDEDLY aimed at women voter demographic and you notice how so many women were moved to tears by it? Carville and Gergen completely miss the boat on this one.
They needed to innoculate Michelle against further attack - they needed to dispell this notion of an elite liberal family, they needed to show how they embody the American dream and how they embody what conservatives have claimed ALL black people should do. Work hard. Did you hear how many times she mentioned that in her speech? That message was AIMED at the working class.
That speech did EXACTLY what it set out to do - to paint the Obamas as the hard working people they are, who were children of hard working families NOT rich well to do aristocrats. To show Michelle as an American success story. To endear both Michelle and the Obamas to women voters nationwide who are/were unhappy about Clinton's loss. And to knock the punch out of McCain's negative ads.
This is the perfect segue into Clinton's speech

I'll catch the rerun later. Emotions and liberals!!!!!!!!!!! Guns and republi-kooks! Just look at the white trash they caught in their pick-up and rifles...just ready to take a shot! I don't know who's sadder...them....or YOU!! I'll say this...you're neck and neck with the 'necks! I'm totally over the right-wing racists with their attacks and accusations of "elitism" they throw at the Obamas. They realize that they can use words like "elitist" to the "rural" white folks...and because most of them don't know what elitist means, they take it as a code word for "just remember, he doesn't look like us." That is EXACTLY what Obama said they would do, and by damned...they are doing it! If this nation is stupid enough to elect John McFossil to the WH, then we will deserve what we get. Thing is, those good "rural" folks will suffer under ANOTHER republican administration as much as anyone else...maybe more. If they had any hopes of getting out of those trailers out in the woods, just how close will they come to acheiving that with more of what we've had for the last eight years? You would think that they'd get tired of being made fools of over and over by the right-wing hypocrites.

Obama is being gracious to a fault. Clinton reportedly was angered (why angered I have no idea but angered) that he was to speak on foreign relations - he felt he could give a more rousing and effective address if he spoke to a different topic. Obama stepped in and said, "no problem - write the speech you want to write". He is basically trying to mitigate further tension from the Clintons who apparently still believe the party and in particular, Obama owes them something. Obama is going along to get along on this one. Smart move as far as I'm concerned. Better to have a happy President Clinton than an extra double bitter one.

One other thing...
I want to go to CNN and slap the pure-d-schit out of Wolf Blitzer, Campbell Brown, "blondie," Anderson Cooper and others for CONTINUOUSLY driving the whole "why didn't he pick Hilary" diatribe! They have kept that mess going more than the racist hacks at FAUX!! And is it just me, or did y'all notice how they picked apart the DNC last night? I mean, I know there will be analyses and critiques but damnED!!
I wanna see if they're gonna do this when the "lifestyles of the old and wrinkled" convention get's kickin' in Minnesota next week!!

denounced... Enough of the the Christians blindly supporting the Republicans. Let me just say it...THEY ARE PLAYING YOU!!!!!!!!! They talk against abortion, but what have they done? They will continue to say that they want to eliminate Roe vs Wade, then why haven't they done it? They can get anything else done that they want. 1.They killed Saddam Hussein and both his kids...yep, went right into a foreign country, dug dude out of the ground and killed him. 2. They got their buddies at Haliburton sweet no bid contracts in Iraq, no matter that soldiers (who are paid a fraction of what these contractors make) are being electrocuted in the poorly construced barracks that Haliburton is in charge of. 3. Uh, lets see what else, oh yeah, they use the Constitution as toilet paper, 4. they hired all of their buddies in the Department of Justice, allow Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and their minions to commit treason by OUTING AN UNDERCOVER CIA AGENT FOR POLITICAL REASONS, 5. and when Congress calls Rove in for a little chat---well scratch that when Congress SUBPOENAS Rove to get to the bottom of his crimes, he claims executive privilege and nothing is done; and why is that 6. See bullet 4!! My theory is that they really don't want to end Roe v Wade, cuz if they did, what would they dangle in front of folks to win elections? If they are not in power, they cannot allow their buddies to pillage the treasury. For the record, I am Pro-Life... I even voted Bush in 2004 (that was hard to admit; but it also explains my almost obsessive study of the political process now and going forward). I realize now that no political party is going to overturn Roe v Wade, for the same reason that no one is really going to close the borders to illegal immigrants; if either party does either of these things, they will lose the womens vote and the hispanic vote respectively from this day forward. The reason most blacks vote Democrat is because the Republicans were on the wrong side of the civil rights issue. They remember that...they are going to keep talking about Roe v Wade to rally their base and reel in Christians who are not looking at the bigger picture. There is more to your Christian walk than just one issue. Look at Katrina. If Bush had access to CNN he would have been able to see the need of those people who were stranded on their rooftops, some for days, were stranded in the dome for days with no food and water...in the United States. They got relief to the Tsunami victims sooner than to the Katrina victims. And in a true depiction of the Marie Antionette suggestion to "let them eat cake"; while New Orleans drowned, Bush and McCain were celebrating McCains birthday 2 states over right outside of Air Force One. Air Force One, the plane that we pay for with our tax dollars was used so that one rich guy could sing happy birthday to another rich guy, while poor black folks died!! I really could go on and on about the many sins of the Bush regime. They claim to be Christians but their actions don't line up with the walk of a true Christian. They will have to give an account to God one day...they will have to give an account to the American people in November...

George W, Cardiac Kid Cheney, Rumsfeld, Carl Rove and yes, even Condi should be tried for crimes of high treason!! I just read an article/editorial by a woman who supported Hillary and she ended her article by saying that the onus was on Barack to asuage their anger.
Somehow HE has to make things right for them. If Barack had lost NO ONE would have been obligated to reach out to the black community. We would have been told to get on board or get left. But Barack wins and HE has the responsibility to assuage their anger.
Where does that incredible sense of entitlement come from?

Where does that incredible sense of entitlement come from? And here lies the contradiction of the actual vs perceived relevance of Hillary's "historic" campaign. The fact that a woman went as far as she did in the primaries and won as many votes as she did, is truly an achievement for the women's movement. BUT The reaction at her loss is also a setback for the women's movement. Some of the reasons given for why women don't make good leaders is that we are too emotional, we aren't rational thinkers, etc. The way some of her supporters have acted have only proven these arguments to be correct. You have the Shrillarys all over the place talking about how Obama has not reached out to them, he has not paid down her debt (he has been a little busy lately), he insulted her, he was condescending to her, etc. You have that delegate (I can't remember which state she was from) that said she was going to vote for McCain since Hillary lost. The DNC stripped her of her delegate status so she can't attend the convention and she is all over the news complaining because no one from her local DNC office reached out to her to find out why she felt that way and she realized she signed some papers, but she didn't know that the papers said that she had to be committed to support the Democratic nominee (you all probably think I am making this up, I will post the Youtube video of this fool when I find it). Then you have all these Hillary supporters that are going to vote McCain. They will vote against all of the things that their candidate stood for, and I assume they stand for, and for what reason? Because Barack hurt their feelings, he took away their moment...forget the fact that his campaign is historic too. Regardless of which of them won, we were going to reach a milestone in this country. They can't be gracious and happy that a minority won this time? If he gets in and does well, that will change the perception in this country that only a white man can be president, which will open the doors for women later on. They also said that if Barack didn't pick hillary for the VP slot that he had better not pick another woman. I am confused, are they for women's advancement or just Hillary advancement? Oh, and all of the attacks on Michelle Obama...where were they to come to her defense on the Obama baby mama flap? You have an educated woman who has made a success in this mans world, is a working mother and arguably the wind beneath Obama's wings, I mean she personifies what the womens movement was about...does she not count?
