(C & P from YBF)
Will Smith has confirmed what damn near everybody has suspected for several years now about he and Jada’s “open marriage”. In an interview with UK magazine Reveal, Willy himself has confirmed that he and Jada ask for each other’s approval before they have sex with other people. And I quote:
“Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural and you’re going to be attracted to people.” he says.
“And if it came down to it, then one would say to the other: ‘Look, I need to have sex with somebody. Now, I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it’.”
The 39-year-old star explains that the couple’s open policy has been in place from day one of their 10-year marriage.
“In our marriage vows, we didn’t say ‘forsaking all others’. We said ‘you will never hear I did something afterwards’. Because if that happens the relationship is destroyed.”
Other things that Will says are important in his relationship are keeping in shape for his “little firecracker” Jada, the “look in her eyes”, and communication.
“And lots of sex makes for a good marriage too!”

*ain't married to no one*
a 10 year hollywood marriage is rare. Will and Jada recently said divorce was not an option so they just needed to figure out what they needed to do to stay together. This for them is it. It's not a choice I'd make but swinging is more common than you'd think. I'd heard that Monique has this arrangement too.
It's interesting that the article ends with him talking about what he does to keep Jada happy. Shows he's not just out swinging because he's checked out on her.

If that works for them, I can not get mad. Not many people can honestly handle that type of situaion. I think MoNique has a similar arrangement.
I remember her stating that infidelity is not a dealbreaker.
(something like that)

I also recall Mo saying something to the effect of not leaving her husband because he cheated. Is this becoming the answer to reducing the divorce rate? Stay married but if it happens to get stale there's the "open marriage" clause?

My thing is if this is the arrangement, why get married? Just be unmarried swingers.
To me, marriage connotates a lifelong commitment to one person.
I wonder if Will and Jada have actually slept with other people yet during the course of their marriage, or if this is just an 'if...then' statement.

I saw them on "Expose" last week and that man LOVES him some Jada. However they do it, it seems to be the right mix for them to stay happy.

I'm just kidding. On one hand its pretty cool that they have so much trust, but on the other hand it's a little disturbing...I mean how does he know for sure all those kids are his? It has two sides but in the end it looks that it can only end badly. Folks forget about feelin's and stuff lol.

Some believe that it means before marraige other believe within marriage. if your marriage is open. How do you explain this to your kids.

I'd think that at the end of the day and when it's all said and done then you have to one you love to come home to. This might turn out to be a temporary thing for them and then it'll just be the two of them at some point. Granted it's not something that I could do but if it's what keeps that family together and happy then I say go for it.

I'm sorry, but nothing about this seems like a good idea. For me, sex is more then a physical act. My emotions get involved also. And I believe that emotional cheating is just as bad as sexual cheating...

Sounds like it's a good idea.
Y'all dont know if your grandaddy is really your biological granddaddy.
It's about what works. Will and Jada have been married for 10 years. Ossie and Ruby for-e-ver. Take those two couples and juxtapose them on the majority of other Hollywood marriages and tell me what works and what doesn't.
It's not for everyone -this is true. But if it's for them, then it is what it is. I DOUBT that they go out every week and have sex with someone else. I didn't read it like that.
Again, if marriage is supposed to be forever then you'd better figure out how you want to live the rest of your days....and better yet, how you DON'T.

I'll be damned if sleeping with other people is what i feel I have to do to keep my marriage together. Again, just stay single.
Marriage is such a sham these days.
Marriage is not for everybody. Perhaps it's not for the person who cannot fathom staying faithful to one person forever.

Now I like Will and Jada as a couple and I believe that they truly lovely each other and yes to each his/her own, but I am baffled by this arrangement.

What baffles you? They made a decision as to what would keep them happy. They didn't say that they would live double lives and each have long term lovers on the side. They just simply addressed one of the two most frequent causes of divorce: money and infidelity.
Money? Well, it's Will and Jada. No problem there.
So they addressed this by saying, "We are together forever and this is how we will handle this other issue since divorce is not an option."
I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't think that that's truly being 'together.'
I am baffled because when I think of marriage I think of 2 people being committed and faithful to each other and part of that means not sharing their body with anyone else. So this redefining of marriage is what I am confused by. And of course I say that realizing that plenty of folks do it anyway, but simply haven't agreed to it.
What's wrong with staying single (unmarried) if monogomy is not for you?

You just can't have it ALL. In any situation. The more I find out that people are so easily accepting of things that are so obviously wrong I realize that hell is going to overcrowded. I'm going to try and live my life right until then...
