I'm reading his quotes and I don't see where he said "all poor people are lazy." And thats not what I got from his comments, either. What I got from his comments were that, in general, we need to stop looking for someone to blame and accept some accountability in this. Take care of the part that you control FIRST...then lets work on the rest.

Those aren't his only quotes. Google him and his comments and you'll see why people are pissed. He is irresponsible and unapologetic and he's doing more harm than good.

I know that government conspiracies exist and in one of my previous posts I even pointed out the specific conspiracy that exists where I work but to me it does not help my clients to try to get the government to undo CENTURY OLD conspiracies as a FIRST priority. My first priority is to teach my client, who I work with for 2 years and have a remaining life span of about 50+ years and even less if they are not taught the urgency in which they need to do something productive, how to become as SELF SUFFICIENT as possible and limit their reliance on these government handouts that I do agree can be conspiratory if you do not learn to use them to your advantage.
I agree with you Cold, of course I could not go to college without financial assistance, I came from a single parent home and my mom's income could barely buy books but what I am very grateful for is what my mom gave me to go with that financial assistance and that is a strong knowledge and sense of my OWN potential so that I could take the government and his conspiracies and do for me and mine and not become a victim to it by blaming everything on "The Man".
You are right, Cos has not qualified his statement just like "The Man" hasn't qualified his conspiracies yet we are able to determine who "The Man" is targeting and see who it is affecting so by the same token I don't think we are off base as to who and what Cos is targeting.

I'm with you Cold, I don't get that he is talking about all poor people or even all people who rely on government assistance. The people he is describing are very trifling and unfortunately I know and work with many like it so for me his statement has validity to it...

How do you know who he is referring to? He made a generalization and refuses to qualify his statement. If he was white and said that you cats would be having a seizure. So hey David Duke, Pat Roberston, Rush Limbaugh and all those cats are right...they say the same stuff Bill says. For that matter all the hell Barack is catching is valid too because the same logic Bill is using is what they are too. I am having a hard time understanding why folks can't comprehend that you can't just solve one aspect of a problem because you really won't solve the problem. What is so hard to grasp. Yes black people need to do their part. WE NEED TO CLEAN UP OUR ACT AS A COMMUNITY...after that then what because this is an interactive world...there is cause and effect and we don't live in a vacuum which means we are affected by other things. After we get our ish together do we THEN start trying to deal with other stuff? Hell by then it may too late...we will have missed opportunities to better things and fight decisions that affected and will affect us because we were getting OURSELVES together and oblivious to those factors. Think about how you live now do you just worry about yourself and say damn everything else around me, I'll deal with it after I deal with me? Nope because you know you have to pay attention to that stuff as well as your own stuff. THat is my point. WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!

Who said anything about blaming the man? What I mean while problems are address within we as a people need to be more civic minded and more involved in our local, state and federal politics. We still have folks who only vote in presidential elections and nothing else. Folks don't go to the polls for referrendums, bill passage votes or the like but then cry when ish gets passed. There is little to no involvement in local politics to hold people accountable and then when those politicians ascend people wonder why their vote gets taken for granted. We haven't learned to work the system and I mean we encompasing educated and lazy black folks. Why because it might cost us something. Look at my post before about the lack of involvement by Bill, Oprah and some of these other people who could help but don't. Cats on here latch on to what they want and don't read. I never said blame the man...I am about helping folks, advocating for people and holding the gubment accountable along with ourselves. Only when we do that will people truly be able to achieve...but I digress.

<-----is so not used to disagreeing with her e-twin
I am not saying to only address one aspect of the problem but look at how you are taking that same approach. How long will it take to undo these conspiracies and American way of thinking?
If I were a young lady out here lost to the streets, popping out baby after baby, can't read and write, no consistent education beyond the 8th grade, social skills so limited that I can't even get a job interview because I don't know how to properly respond to questions being asked without popping my neck and rolling my eyes, please, please, please my fellow black brothers and sisters who have some wits about yourself, put your time and effort into ME and don't cheat me by divulging your time and attention to conspiracies that were here before you and I and likely will be here after I have spent my life waiting for someone to treat me as an individual and help me and not just see me as another number victim to this American way...
I'm starting to sense that having us think that the best way to help each other is to undo the government and his ways is a conspiracy...

Bill Cosby's overall message is correct. However, he is very irresponsible in relaying his message almost ALL the time. I heard him speak in person last October/November and I went from Amening to wanting to strangle him because a lot of what he says is very surface level and in this particular speech I witnessed he was making assumptions (negative and positive) about specific Black folk that he could NOT validate.
Do NOT assume that a sister never consumes alcohol and lives a 'morally upright' existence simply because she's pretty or 'has nice skin' as he said and you like her uniform and/or she belongs to an organization you like. Give me a damn break. He's kind of crazy.
He needs to be more responsible about how he messages Black upliftment...(of course if indeed this is what he is trying to message)...

Full I addressed that. I didn't say you just attacked the system I said you need a well rounded approach and stand by it. Why would you treat one system but still leave someone sick? You try to address them all. That is my point?
And I will stand by the fact that while The Cos has some valid points his approach and delivery sucks and its flawed due to omission of solutions and address the whole issue.
Full read my post I never said undoing government stuff was the only way to help. You guys are not reading/listening. Go back and read my post as a whole not just the parts you guys don't want to hear. I said we need to mentor and get our hands dirty as a community while also being civic minded and politically active. Where is the disconnect. Why on earth with all the talent in our community can't we do both? :smh:

I was saying that its obvious we need to do better. We look around and see the evidence daily....I was just making a point that we can't neglect the other factors that have contributed to the problem.

Can we all agree that we need to round up every black child from the ages of 2-19 and have an 1st annual B.D.A.D. (Beat Dey Ass Day)
Where the last living Big Mamas and Granddaddies beat all the black chil'ren for 24 hours with various switches, extenstion cords, cutting boards, paddles, belts and fly swatters...

Yeah it was but even irl siblings disagree sometimes so its all good. Its healthy. You know what is funny I used to love dude growing up which is why the tact he used in saying what he had to say was disappointing. I also have first hand knowledge from people who had to deal with him during speaking engagements. The things they told me just had me shaking my head especially since he was on his soapbox.

LOL you two are crazy.
Well a few years ago when Howard had their 135th or 140th anniversary he was honored and got a medal. Well Mr Cos reeked of alcohol and wasn't very coherent when my contact placed the medal on him and prepped him for the ceremony. The person said he was a bit difficult and touchy feely. At hampton's graduation in 2002 his address was random...He started off my yelling SEX!!! and then going on about thats what was on the minds of the graduates. Dude was lunching for real and that is why I tend to be skeptical of his rhetoric.
