Do you tend to view every other organization through the prism of your own organization? Do you feel that you judge them when you do? Do you believe it's appropriate to do? If you're not in an org, have you witnessed what you believed to be intra-fraternal judgment? Did it make you think differently of the org doing the judgment, the org judged, both, or neither?

Outside of some all-in-fun "ribbing" that goes on between me and friends who are members of other Greek-lettered organizations, no I don't. My mindset is, I've got enough going on in Alpha and what we're trying to do, that I don't have time to concern myself with anyone else. That's why I've never understood all the back and forth about "processes" when it comes to who is "pledging" the hardest and the longest. I don't care about how long anyone takes to join THEIR fraternity or sorority! Never have, never will!

Certainly. There's one particular sorority that I looked down my nose @ all through undergrad because as a whole I just wasn't feeling their national service agenda as it left a huge void in the community which my chapter had no choice but to fill. There's one that (based on my recent research for another purpose) goes WAY overboard with their hazing policy, and contributes to making it harder on all of us in the courts. Do I think such judgments are appropriate? M'eh. Even if not, IIWII. What would be inappropriate, IMO, is going around vocalizing my thoughts--Especially on those topics that don't affect me at all and are none of my business.

I judged when I first crossed in undergrad, but my opinion opened up once I traveled to different campuses and noticed different examples. Now, like Southie, I notice more on a chapter level than the actual org.

You know why cause we all judge.we may not make a part-job out of it. But how can you not when there are eight other organizations that have similar goals. your bound to contrast or compare and it not always PC.

I have done the "raised eyebrow" at various chapters, not the org. ding ding ding....and certain people but never a whole org. we all may do the same things but some orgs pinpoint certain things vs. the other.

*Chambers round in Shotgun*
p.s. you ain't gotta name the orgs - just wondering if you had seen it and how it made you look at all the folks involved.

I have done the "raised eyebrow" at various chapters, not the org. co-sign. I've looked at some chapters like, are you serious? But I don't apply it to the org. as a whole because those particular chapters weren't living up to any particular standards, not even their orgs., as far as a person from the outside looking in could tell. There was one chapter in particular where all the greeks on my yard were like dudes, seriously? But we didn't attribute to everyone in the org. just that off the wall chapter.

So no one is brave enough to come in here and suggest that BGLOs judge other GLOs and auxs? No one?
Fine I'll do it.
BGLOs judge other orgs when we feel like they're trying to be like us. Anyone care to deny this?

I feel guilty that I sometimes judge orgs by the supposed stereotypes.
One time while in the field for work I saw an old (like 70's version) of a car beat down parked in front of public housing with a certain orgs tag on it. I was like "wow".
Then I thought what's wrong with that? You think xyz orgs don't have folks with ran down cars who live in the pj's. Come up higher Outtie!
Also one time someone said they had another person to introduce to me who was also happened to be an xyz. I was so shocked to see a mousy plain person in front of me shaking hands and talking. Once again I scolded myself inwardly OUTTIE COME UP HIGHER , ALREADY!
*shrugs*
Branding and marketing is supposed to stick, right?

I will admit that I have laughed at situations that really wasn't meant to be funny. Different chapters within various orgs do things differently. (take it anyway you like) and yeah...they will get the raised eyebrow.
