and another thing.......some people get in because they know greeks are in the craft. they 'friendly-bob' with them in the hopes of membership in that greek's org. this is must confess... I gained entry into the OES so easily because a couple of them wanted to be Deltas... I wonder who they are *whistling* lmaoooooooooooooo And they still "wanna be" ;D

Now this is a very interesting thread & heard is my humble opinion on this question....
First & Foremost
<----- I am a Prince Hall Mason <----- I am a member of OMEGA PSI PHI
As much as I would hate to admit that there is a competition that exist but unfortunately it's true! But the difference of course has to do with AGE more than anything else.
Not that I am making a difference & claiming one is better than the other or getting into the Chicken vs The Egg argument because that is a waste of time but what I will do is look at a specific example (maybe two) to illustrate my point!
Example 1 - My current Senior Warden of my lodge I think is suffering from a complex that I call "GREEK ENVY" he thinks and feels that he has to validate and/or compare his Masonic prowess everytime he can but he doesn't realize how SILLY (sometimes STUPID) it makes him look and/or sound! - This guy went out & had himself a masonic line jacket & hat made & put on it the year that the 1st Prince Hall Grand Lodge was founded, etc! Now my problem is this I know for a FACT that he want or wanted to be greek & he didn't (or couldn't ) for whatever reason but here is the kicker he is well into his 40's, he is married, with eight (8) yes I said it 8 kids, plus he has been a mason over 15 years! So go figure & when I see him I just scarcth my head & wonder to myself.... WHY? He also is the one that keeps the I'm your daddy or we are the father of BGLO's discussion/argument going which is a way that I think try to validate and/or prove why he made his choice or better yet his anger & angst that he wasn't chosen!
Example 2 - Is kind of old but I went to my God-Brothers Alpha Phi Alpha Probate (or it could have just been a party) but my God-Brother was not only a Alpha but he also was a Prince Hall Mason also (He is deceased now) So I choose to come support him at this event in I went in my FULL OWT OMEGA GLORY - (Gold Boots, Frat Shirt, Dog Collar, etc) So there was no mistaking who I was but the several different Masonic brothers had several issues with the Greeks on the yard, I mean they was acting like they was a FRATERNITY, that was stepping/strolling, had masonic calls, had lines/classes when they got raised on them , etc you get the picture but they knew I was also a mason & they actually wanted me to step/stroll with them & when I don't them NO it caused a bigger issue & I had to let them know that isn't what Masons do & especially it wasn't what I did as a Mason! But Iw ill say this....
STOP IT! - THERE IS NO COMPETITION, YES MASONARY WAS FIRST, AND IF YOU WANT TO BE GREEK, THEN PICK A FRAT & PLEDGE BUT STOP TURNING YOUR CHOICE TO BE OR BECOME A MASON INTO WHAT YOU ORIGINALLY WANTED WHICH WAS TO BE GREEK - AGAIN STOP IT!

@ Comedy - I will be in the Bay Area soon (not exactly sure when yet tho)...My homegurl just crossed Delta! YAYNESS! But trust me...I don't have to come all the way there to see one. AS LONG AS it doesn't have MY Chapter/Grand Chapter on it...I will be ok. To be honest, I tend to fault greeks for the overall "greek" appeal of Masonry these days. ALOT of greek are or plan to enter the Masonry World at some point. Most say this is the epitome of their fraternal "journey"...(if only they knew it's only the begining). But I always trumped up the irritable behaviors of some of my brothers and sisters to the likelihood that somewhere down the line, a member of a BGLO came in and brought his/her "greek ways" with them. Started forming "lines" *rolls eyes* and giving ship names and all that other BS that belongs to BGLO Life. And it has spread like wild fire. And NO...I have seen Older Masons and Stars...and I'm not talking older in age but older in years in the Craft with these jackets too. Now don't get me wrong...I'm not anti a regular jacket/shirt/hat/ keychain/etc but when you have SECRET info on it, references to lines, and line numbers and stuff on them...then YES there is a problem. AND, even with the regular shirt/jacket IMO it should only be worn around fellow masonic family. The only thing you can catch me in around regular ppl is my ring (cause it never comes off...literally...it hurts like hell when I try to take it off! I hope I never get engaged cause right now I'm married to the Order! LOL) Not to offend anyone...this is just how I was Raised.

I think that some of the influence (line jackets, strolls, etc. ) also comes from the greek members that are Masons/Stars, some of them ENCOURAGE this behavior (ive seen this with my own eyes)

If we gonna talk about BGLO members who have influenced some people in your "craft" then we must also speak about the disgruntled dudes who dropped line. I must say I dropped more than a few dudes who I would then see rocking masonry stuff like it was bglo nalia. Like it was sooo hard for them. I'm like dude you couldn't even take thunder claps or neck nor remember simple poems and history. GTFOH with that bs lol.

I hope I never get engaged cause right now I'm married to the Order! LOL) Not to offend anyone...this is just how I was Raised. I have read the several responses to this thread and I see the same thing. Fortunately, we don't have this issue in my Chapter. Although we have members from all four major BGLO's it's never been an issue. The only thing I ask is how active they are in their Sorority. Because if they are not active there, more than likely they won't be active over here. In all organizations its 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. Our GWM is an AKA and our GM is a Life member of KAY. However, you don't see or hear them mixing the two together so why can't we follow suit. I have seen some Masons and Stars downright hate on Greeks for all kinds of crazy reasons. I chalk it up to them joining the Craft as a substitute for Greek Life. I tell new members if that's what they are looking for, they joined the wrong organization. Go back to school, tighten up on your service and quit hatin'. Bloom where you are planted. If you are planted in Masonry/OES, bloom there and get over what you did or didn't or couldn't do. On the flip side, I have seen instances (more often than the other way around) where greek members who are also members of the Craft, come up with line names, numbers and a whole bunch of other stuff that doesn't belong in the Craft/Order. Plus those same members will wear a greek shirt at a masonic function and they look crazy. But they try to make themselves out to be more than what they are because they didn't get a position in OES or the Blue house so they feel the need to try and showboat their greek status. I say to them, sit down somewhere and quit trying to be seen. We see you greek. Now what are you doing to help your blue lodge or OES chapter. What people need to understand is that we make these organizations, they don't make us. We can all work together in peace and harmony. My chapter is closely interwoven with a particular sorority chapter in our area. It's a great history that I wish all could share in as proof that greeks and masons/stars can work together for the common good. As for para, I personally don't see anything wrong with that. I have para for all seven, yes seven masonic houses that I am a member of. I hold the highest subordinate office in two houses and am a grand officer in another and hold or has held various offices in all seven of them. I have earned the right to wear my shirts, jackets, walking suits, Dickies, etc. HOWEVER, I did have to whisper wise counsel to a vendor who had secret info on a shirt while we were at our Council of Deliberation last month. He took it down because this Worthy Matron was HOTTER than when I crossed the burning sands of the desert when I saw it.

I agree, but you can't have a "it's not my chapter" attitude because they are a reflection of you. Every month, I am forced to curse out people who think they can do whatever they want in my stuff. I will continue to be unsisterly (and you know I can be) because they have not earned the right to be treated with dignity. Anyways, I really only see this mockery thing being an issue when the perpetrators are rude...the same way I do not tolerate rude NPHC clan members, I do not tolerate rude Mason/OES members. I'm not an idiot nor am I a jacket wearer because I don't see the point in the investing $200 on a $29.00 jacket when I could purchase a pair of shoes for everyday wear. Point at hand: I think these behaviors are problematic when it's generated by people who have little or no education. I don't think that it's fair to Masons/OES who are not parading around without pointing out some basic things. I think a lot of people who aren't cut out for academia or maybe too lazy for academia join these lodges to experience all the ish we NPHC members pretend to be the business. If we weren't running around acting a fool they would have never started this mess. All my life I have known members in my family and in my community who are apart of these orders and good lord they too are moving fast in the wrong direction just like the clan. I believe all people who want to engage and party with the greeks should join a greek letter organization. All people who are interested in the begining, middle and end should join the Masons/OES. < Yep, I said it and whose gonna check me boo? In my city we have been having issues with younger lodge members popping up at greek mixers, bbq, fund raisers with para on standing around...for what reason? Because people are social creature and they want to fit in just like the rest of us. @ Comedy - I will be in the Bay Area soon (not exactly sure when yet tho)...My homegurl just crossed Delta! ...and this is unfortunate. You should try being more nasty to these greek sisters who are disrupting your house. You know some people don't respond to acts of kindness. I would almost bet that these are probably people who read out of their books. Anyways, moving along I have a sister who inquired about OES in front of our chapter last Saturday.
