Wanda Sykes was on Piers Morgan last night and her hair looked amazing. I know she's admitted to straw sets when she has appearances but her curls were POPPING! I was a lil sad to realize that she's been natural at least three years to my one to get that length and volume. This is taking FOREVER!

You won't have to wait 3 years to get that length and/or volume...especially if you plan to straw-set. I never BC'd, so my calculations are little off, but my hair was like that in summer only about a year or so after my final perm. And even then, it incorporated shrinkage, because I was shingling, NOT strawsetting. I think you'll be there by next summer easy.

I can't wait for my next sew in. I'm trying to wait until right before my umcoming trip so that it'll be a fresh do. then I can go for my 3 week touch up/tighten up right before my birthday.
I'm thinking volume and deep curls this go around. Hmmmm.

yeah, I'm getting a tighten up this week (which I have learned is oh-so necessary with this invisible part business, esp since it's not my natural color). This hair is super high quality though. I'mma rock it as long as I can.

I'm trying henna tomorrow. If I end up looking like sideshow bob I will be working from home for the rest of the week.

My hair has grown so much I wish I could post pics. I was almost tapered faded now I have hair past my chin in 1 year! I thin the henna highlights will be pretty.
@'91 what tone are you going with goldish or reddish?

Hopefully the actual color of my hair doesn't change (it's dark brown) but we'll see.

I'd be very content with minimal color absorption. I'm trying it for the conditioning benefits.

I heard after awhile it can stretch your curls we shall see. Oh somewhere I read that it should sit 12-15 hours before applying for best results. Most of the youtube videos show that as well.

Most of the youtube videos show that as well. 12-15 hours? You can let it sit 4-6 hours and it'll be fine. I've gotten really good color absorption and there is no way in hell I'm letting it sit for over 5 hours. Anything more is just crazy. I haven't seen anything that said to let it sit longer than 6 in hours and I started doing henna a few years ago. Are these people letting it sit at least overnight for the color to release? I also think you have to use it a lot (like several times a month, every month) for it to have any long lasting effects on your curl pattern. If you do it every few months or once a month your curls will go back to normal.

@bh -I have heard differing things I think it was based on the brand of Henna used...all brands aren't created equal guess a less quality brand people were letting sit overnight. I wanna see some pics of your henna hair! This is what I read: If you're using a henna product that comes in red or black, it should come with instructions that you should follow, and it's likely not just henna that's in it. You only have to let henna (pure henna) sit overnight if you are mixing it with something acidic. Shorter dye release times happen if: a) The liquid is pH neutral, like water, or not very acidic, like green tea, or ... b) The temperature where you are is pretty warm to hot, like 85 to 100 degrees, or ... c) The liquid you mix it with is warm to hot If you were using pure henna, you could mix it with warm water for instant dye release, but the color may or may not be as rich, or as permanent. If you use something less acidic than lemon juice (like green tea or apple juice) you will probably start seeing dye release in a few hours (4-6, depending on the temperature where the paste is sitting). . I like this color!!! www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/kimperrault/

I never expected to get as many looks as I have now that I actually wear my natural hair out...for some reason I get the weirdest/nastiest looks from certain people<----THIS is what made me feel nervous about going from the norm to doing something "different". Maybe it's bc my styles change too often lol keep them confused. Fortunately, I have never been told I was beautiful as often as I do now before I was pretty and cute. One day at a time. Just doing me and being me but my weekend alter still likes the long straight 1b w/ 30 highlights.

I like this color!!! www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/kimperrault/ I used Mehandi's henna the first few times and it was great. I tried some store bought brands (very inexpensive) because I'd heard good things but I didn't like any of them. They had a bad sift, were a weird color or came out very lumpy. I couldn't imagine letting henna sit on my head overnight (then again I don't baggy or DC overnight either, LOL). Fungi and bacteria love wet warm environments so going to bed with a wet head is something I can't do. I've used warm green tea only, lemon juice, acv or a combo of them and warm water and it didn't really change the color. It just changed the smell or how dry my hair was (ACV made my hair really dry) but I add coconut milk now and it takes care of any dryness. I've never gotten any colored henna because of what you posted, sometimes it's not pure. If I'm not sure what else they've added to it then I'm not using it. I know you can get other colors when you mix henna with indigo, depending on the proportions you use, but the stuff that already comes colored is iffy to me. 12 hours...sheeeeeeit, LOL. That's a long time! I'd rather pay more than sit with that on my head for that long.
