Seriously, is it really over? Clearly this has been sabotage, and not some silly virus or spam. Why?

I don't know...as of yesterday, StopHazing was still working to get OO back on track. All I know is whoever has been attacking OO needs to catch my foot in their azz!

its very sad that someone would sabotage a message board that has been very successful, but then at the same time I kept telling the admins to make the board "registered member access only" and move it to a remote server, even if they had to start from scratch. Well i take that back, at first i said make it registered access only. Then after I learned that it may be someone being stupid, then i said move it to a remote server/ change hosts.
I am just putting to out there that "THIS BOARD is just a "holding cell" until regular OO comes back, because I do miss the regular OO"
I just dont like G9 - its way too many people

OO might never come back. When I e-mailed StopHazing, he really seemed frustrated at the amount of work he was putting into bringing the board back after the attacks. If I were him, I'd just say F*** it. Its not like he's getting paid for that.

Again, clearly someone is out to get OO. I have never heard of a messageboard that has been confronted to back to back attacks. Its too suspect.

Everyone just think of the reason to want OO down and you'll find the reason it got attacked.

So is this site more secure than OO?
Because if everyone comes over here, it'll be the new OO. One of the things I loved about it was that it was so low key.
I wonder who was pissed off bad enough/ had serious motivation to take a MESSAGEBOARD down. *SMH*

Why does it seem so easy to knock it off line and so difficult to keep it on? The attacks come within hours of it going back online and it takes days to get it back on...

I guess I'm missing something...because you have cyber beef and got herbed in front of a group of people you will probably never meet you have to sabotage a message board?? How loser is that?

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Even though it does seem very suspect and strange, maybe a change needed to take place. *shrugs*

I'm normally reluctant to any change but I like the potential for this place. Its more secure than OO was, and it looks like we'll be able to get many of the active OO posters. Well at least the ones I liked, and thats all I care about...lol.

I'll say this much. It's obvious that OO was being targeted. It's also obvious that whoever it is/whoever they were - there is a level of expertise beyond just an average hacker. The original OO had numerous security vulnerabilities, it was a UBB forum based on version of that isn't even supported anymore. I know because I checked... and this was probably close to a year ago when I did.
I'm not comp sci, but I could have probably learned how to compromise the board if I had studied it long enough. But remember - he upgraded the version. I wasn't surprised at all because I knew if he wanted to make any changes he HAD to use a newer version because the old one wasn't supported.
When the board went down even with the newer version (which didn't have the same security vulnerabilities as the last one) that told me that it was an attack based more on knowledge of networks and protocols, than knowledge of just UBB and php.
We were all on there when SH said he was going to press charges against whoever it was that had done this. If the person or persons were on the board as well, then they KNOW what SH is threatening as well. And they STILL took the board down again.
That tells me they are either crazy, or they're confident enough in their knowledge of computers that they won't get caught. If SH was counting on just tracing an IP address - he's wasting his time. Even a computer novice like myself knows how to chain together a string of proxy servers. And even then, if I was going to really be grimy I would just use a pre-paid card, go to Kinkos, telnet to some remote site, and THEN string together proxies and I'm guessing than most people would not be able to catch me.
Now I'm guessing that everyone is assuming that Tux is behind this (which crossed my mind) but I'd like to remind everyone that the board didn't go down immediately after Tux started G9, it went down immediately after that ZTdynasty dude showed up talking about his beef with Kappa. He made several ominous statements that day... Also - let's not forget that we had regular raids from people coming over from Pledge Park. We didn't make a whole lot of friends over there. There are a number of different scenarios out there.

I was also thinking....did SH have anyone else besides the mods or admin such as Cam who had access to the board? ya know maybe slipped up and gave them admin rights?
I kept saying to complete change servers even if that meant losing everything and starting from scratch

@ GNG: I don't think that's what happened. Trunks said she saw a screen name called DaBoss and it was in Red indicating it had Administrative privileges. The user probably hacked in, and gave himself/herself those privileges and then mucked with the board. I don't think SH gave it away by accident, I think someone ganked it.
