Okay, now that makes sense...there was a DaBoss...I mentioned in the other thread that my cousin was THE BOSS and I was wondering why the hell people thought her "couldn't keep up with a thread a$$" was the culprit.

another board I was on got hacked a few years ago. Everytime you went to the site a page would come up saying something about a Turkish hacker. It was his/her little calling card, lol.

G9 is ok, you just gotta play their game...and don't give a damn about feelings...
I agree with Damie...most people are assuming that Tux is the source and in light of the several hundred thousand BGLO members...and multiple greek boards out there, what is the gain for him?
I know about the supposed beef, but if SH never deleted/barred his screen name, then the beef was over/settled btwn those guys...
It could have been the bible beaters since they were not converting as many as they wanted: 0
Just food for thought...

I deal with a few threads on G9, and stay clear of the ones that I think are too messy.

But I don't remember there being any beef between him and SH. Let's also remember that when SH turned on compression accidentally and blocked everyone except like a hand full of posters from starting new threads, it was TUX that came up with the proxy to allow everyone to create new posts.

Alot of people got on G9 having no place else to go. I had an account over there but I barely used it. I don't know if he (Tux) has changed the sign up process.

*negro nod @ that's all i care about* hahahha I'm normally reluctant to any change but I like the potential for this place. Its more secure than OO was, and it looks like we'll be able to get many of the active OO posters. Well at least the ones I liked, and thats all I care about...lol.

Here's my thoughts:
when you do not have general facts and very little clues it's hard to pinpoint much. Yet in every action there is a motive. There is even motive in taking your next breath.
So the question would be WHY would someone want to get rid of OO. A better way is what would they gain in return?
And then one has to ask WHY OO of all the message boards...WHY OO?
At first I thought it was someone flexing there techie muscles. They were attacking just because they could and/or just because they knew how. Yet after the attack was continuous and consistent I realized it was much more personal.
So then I thought it was someone who had beef against stophazing( or even the concept of anti hazing lol) but then I quickly realized...when you are trying to get at a person jolt them where it hurts you don't kill their STEP CHILD...you go straight for the first born blood.
This attack was personal. I doubt it was a random jaded poster who came back to tear down OO.
So now I am concluding it's:
1.someone/entity who was seeking revenge on the concept of OO and/ OO community in general (not anyone in particular) 2.someone/entity who saw OO as an unnecessary financial burden 3.someone/entity who saw OO as road block (to a specific goal) that needed to be demolished as opposed to driven around.

See what gets me is that changing the url should have done the trick. There was no reason for the attacker to know that SH had set up shop at a completely different url. But we as OO didn't make special efforts to keep that url a secret. I saw it mentioned on G9. And what happened? The .org Onolympus got attacked.
The url to this board has been (by and large) a tightly kept secret and there has been no subsequent attack (that I have seen). Also... for any of y'all that's on the yahoogroup, Tux does know about the new site...
...and yet it hasn't crashed. I don't know if that means anything but I thought that was interesting. The attacker was likely one among us - otherwise they probably wouldn't have known to attack the .org Onolympus

Tux has been asking about getting the admission key, right after Troopa had asked about getting onto the site.

Yeah I saw that. And no one explained the vote or anything. It was just silence. He's a big boy with his own site though... I'm guessing he won't care if he's denied access over here

Well why do folks think it is Tux?
Also if you are a member of a board isnt it easier to break codes than if you are not?
I know the latter isnt impossible, but doesn't it take longer?

But ya'll to understand a Denial of Service Attack is to understand that OO may have been just a random target from what call Spoofers. People just want to know they can do it and free ad based MBs are easy targets. I am not saying someone didn't purposely take OO out, because DOSA's are purposeful, I am saying though that it may NOT have been a Greek or someone mad OO, just a random hacker testing their skills. DOSAs have hit banks, the CIA, the CER Agengy and its taken them weeks and teams of Security Professionals to get HIGHLY secured sites back up and secure. I doubt whoever ran OO had tools like Black Ice or other prevention tools that stop these attacks
