This might sound like a stupid question, but could someone tell me what GOP stands for? LOL!

"Grand Old Party". I don't know why it's referred as that, though.

"Grand Old Party". I don't know why it's referred as that, though. Are you serious?? I've always wondered why they called the Republicans the GOP, but I never bothered to ask what GOP stood for.

And if you can't have faith in the "other" folks - have faith that they care more about their money and their insurance than they do that McCain was a POW. See, that's just it. My coworker--I mentioned him in another post--WAS supporting Obama. He is in the same position I am--both of us have been looking for jobs to get away from our soul-crushing place of employment for OVER two years with no results. He has a baby with special health needs, and for a good year had no health insurance. His church was doing fund-raisers and everything to raise money for the kid's surgery. He HAD BEEN talking with common sense, talking about how we need change and how he was supporting Obama, even though he's a Republican. But as soon as McCain added Palin as his VP nominee, he says he's now "undecided". I had had some respect for him, and I figured that people were starting to wake up. But he kind of disappointed me. It baffles and bothers me to see people just get so easily led that they vote against their best interests. I think that's probably why I'm feeling this way. But I'm still going to register people to vote next weekend! Also: reading viewer comments over at the CNN board is making me feel better. ;D

Why does McCain look like he can't move his neck? He has to completely swivel his body around to look to his right or left. Didn't you hear Huckabee? He said, "He CAN'T lift his arms above his SHOULDER!" I fell out when he said that. I was like, is he stating good qualities? or is he mocking the people in the room because they didn't pick him? "How the hell you gonna pick a man who can't lift his arms?" HAHHAHAHAHA

Your friend is an idiot. An idiot. If he can't explain how adding Palin to the ticket changes his situation (economic and insurance wise) and he has suddenly become undecided because of it - then he is an idiot.
He is the kind of fool that the GOP counts on getting in their camp with gimmicks and tricks. They can have them. It's the greedy people that we can count on. They'll go along so long as you don't cost them their job, or their money. After that all bet's are off.
In the meantime - ask you friend how does Palin change HIS situation.

Tell me this...do you as a party have a problem when your highlights are to continue to compare your VP candidate not to the other VP candidate, but to the TOP of your opponent's ticket?
Uh...are y'all saying you wish Palin was the top and NOT McCain? because you should be comparing McCain to Obama not Palin. Maybe they understand that McCain won't deliver his speech half as well as Palin did.

Why even address her? Let the media dig up dirt and let Biden talk bout her, but Obama needs to focus on the issues and McCain...Why should he be concerned with her remarks? I understand that she is a strength in unifying the GOP base and can be effective, but Obama needs to let his surrogates handle her.

"I understand that she is a strength in unifying the GOP base and can be effective, but Obama needs to let his surrogates handle her. "
...and I think that is exactly what will happen, Ghost.
Obama is too smart to engage in a meaningless exchange with a pageant runner-up. You'd think that these Billy Bobs would have realized by now that they cannot goad Obama into taking the low road they love to travel.

I don't even think Obama's surrogates will have to go after her. The blogosphere and the media aren't done with her yet.
After years of being a media sweetheart, McCain is trying to BLAME the media for his lack of vetting? It won't work. He cannot cry sexism when they ask her what would be her plan to secure Iraq in an timely and orderly fashion while securing peace.
He cannot say "how dare you" when they ask her why did she support the bridge to nowhere before she opposed it.
They cannot say "this is outrageous" when they ask her about her what legislation or initiatives she's been a part of or led that had national and international implications and impacts.
That's the media's job to ask - and if she can't answer - it's not because of sexism - it's because she is the least qualified.
I'm sure her attack speech played well in the hall (as intended) but they had a much bigger audience they were supposed to be trying to appeal to. And I don't think they did.
