reading alot about this on MB's today and most women who commented on this were distrubed by Palin's decision to be VP knowing she has a pregnant teenage daughter. The sentiment is that she knew what scrutiny she and her family would be under. So to place your daughter in that position was viewed as selfish and something that a mother wouldn't do.

as long as O and the Dems keep the focus on Mcain and his poor judgement when it came to picking Palin, they'll avoid the pitfalls the GOP his praying they'll step into.

I do think some of this stuff is outrageous. Her husband had a DWI 24 years ago? LOL...who cares. But the fact is, she was picked simply because she's a woman. Being mayor of a town of 7,000 and Governor of Alaska is hardly "executive experience" enough to qualify one for being a heartbeat away from the presidency. I agree.

Palin may be playing the part Daddy Knowles did with 17 year old 'expecting' Solange...same script different characters. Anywho, I'm sure they are disappointed but may not feel the need to express that to the public. Too many shady things are going on at the moment, seriously...can't wait til November; let's get it over with.

Not to play devil's advocate but do you think that Palin is / will use her daughter's pregnancy as a way to further identify with the average american. I mean look at it Brittan Spear's little sister just went through a very public pregnancy and it was celebrated in damn near every magazine. There is this new show on the ABC Family (Secret Life of the American Teenager) where the story line is set around a teen girl getting pregnant. Honestly I think that the GOP knew what was really going on with Palin's daughter and used that as a way to make the party more relateable to families in this situation.

Yeah, but this Alaskan Independent Party situation and this trooper situation could be intriguing. he daughter doesn't have much to do with her. The daughter was basically a grown woman, but Palin was directly involved with these other 2 ordeals.

Sigh...
Not directed at any one person in particular - but some of this conspiracy talk that's been going on in the threads in this section (Serious Talk) is getting ridiculous. I mean really y'all?
What's next? Are we going to theorize that Hurricane Gustav was actually part of the GOP and John McCain's plan to woo the American voters through the sympathy angle? They somehow knew, when they were scheduling their convention, that a hurricane would hit forcing Bush to cancel his visit, and allow the GOP to put on a telethon to seem more family orientated?
I mean seriously y'all...

In all fairness, when Elizabeth Edwards cancer came back many were saying that he should end his bid for president and be with his wife.
She has a:
1. 7 month old child with special needs
2. 18 year old son who will be in harms way
3. 17 year old daughter who is pregnant
Call me a misogynystic, call me insinsitve to a working woman but she needs to have her ass at home! Would I say the same thing if it had been her husband? Probably but i'm not certain.
Let's face it, she is not only a woman with 5 children and these issues but she is a Ultra-Conservative, Evangelical, Holy Rollin', Family Values Invoking Republican. She needs to be at home.

^^^^^^^^^And THAT isn't a conspiracy its the truth right there. How else can we make sense of this pick without looking at it as an attempt to sway public opinion. They are using the Gender Card. Thus far everything is going as planned.
A mother of 5 with common problems and with a son going to Iraq.. shessh you couldn't write a better story.

And THIS is what they're attempting to do: turn legit arguments demonstrating her inexperience into the messenger being sexist. THAT's BULLshit! and people need to be smart enough to see through this....unfortunately, it's the uneducated that may not be able to do this and this GROUP is the prime target for such tactics.

Yeah, Aces...I was just told that in so many words.
In that case, Obama should have chosen a Black woman to be his running mate. They would have been untouchable!!
As a matter of fact, a single mother with a special needs child, who lives in public housing, had her house forclosed on and is a former Enron employee...

Really? Also, is she ready to uproot her family from Alaska to Washington (If they were to win)

He should have chosen Governor Jindal if he wanted a Washington outsider. He has handled Gustav well and was a very good surrogate for McCain. He would still have a minority on the ticket.

If she drops out because of family issues it will still be a plus for Mccain. Probably more so of a plus since he can reap the sympathy vote without the baggage probably saying something like she will be in his cabinet or something. The smoke and mirrors of American Politics.... 50 minutes before RUSH comes on. Lets see what he has to say today about this.

I mean seriously y'all... Which conspiracy/ies are you referring to in particular? There are a few which seem ridiculous, but a few that need to be explained. Also, because of the corner the GOP painted themselves into...regarding "conspiracies" with the Obama campaign, they need to set an example and take these rumors head on. Start a website that takes down the rumo...Oh wait, the Obama campaign already did that. So maybe they won't be setting an example, but they'll be following the lead of...hmmm, wait...They'll be putting Country First and protecting the ideals of the American Heartland by being firm with the terrorists who attack our core values and (cue eagle and "Battle Hym of the Republic") spread the communist propoganda that will destroy our constitution if we don't FIGHT! HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ONNNNNN!

HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ONNNNNN! Fair or unfair, ridiculous or sane; McCain invited all of this intense scrutiny because he was going for the element of surprise. If he had done the traditional vetting, a lot of this stuff would have been found out, but he didn't want the media to get wind of the fact that she was on his short list. he wanted to immediately shift attention away from Obama and the success of the Democratic convention, well he got his wish...nobody is even thinking about Obama now.

How relevant is the Palin's Pregnant Daughter essential to the campaign? Right now, she is the most famous 17 year old-pregant young lady in the world. Is this a fair approach? Or, is this the best the media can do, given that they do not have much information on Palin?

Or, is this the best the media can do, given that they do not have much information on Palin? She is champion of "family values" and has been a vocal proponent of abstinence only in schools - and yet can't seem to enforce it in her own home - it is not hard to see why the media is picking up on this.
