I'm surprised nobody has discussed this today. They're making a REALLY big deal out of Rev. Wright's comments. They're talking about it now on Lou Dobbs. They're saying Obama should have renounced him years ago. Your thoughts? Will this hurt Obama?
I felt the "GD America" sounded horrible and really needed to be totally worded differently. I think I know what he was trying to say, but he needed find another way to express that that didn't make it sound like he "hates" America.
Other than that, I honestly didn't have a problem with his other comments.

Rev Wright is mad and he had to step down because of Obama they knew the heat was coming . Rev Wright has no discretion and they way he talked is as if he wanted the attention .who knows what is going on behind the scenes. but i guarantee just like Obama dissing the Kappa man he has done the same to the Omega PHA man at least until this election is over. Committed Christians should not be so shady.

Can we at least stop with the whole "Obama is a Muslim" talk now?
I mean which is it gonna be? He's a Muslim...or he has a controversial pastor...
Can't have both...

I listened to Rev. Wright's sermon this weekend and I don't seen anything REALLY wrong with what he said. True, what he said will and has caused a soundbite nightmare for Obama but Wright is, in my opinion, not wrong. At least not from what I have heard.
Obama is in a tight spot. Americans are not that smart...not collectively anyway. They are DEFINATELY not patient. So what they want are soundbites that make sense and make them feel good. Rev. Wright has given them just the opposite.
What we are really seeing here and WILL CONTINUE TO SEE is the mask being removed from American politics. We will see the exposure of gender and racial bigots on both side of the fences. And while this is not going to be comfortable at all, in my opinion, it's healthy.
America, your slip is showing.

The churches have been infiltrated by seducing spirits and doctrines of devilsThe church must educate youth in safe sex procedures, she insisted. An audience member gained applause by responding to Smith by saying, "I believe Jesus would give someone a condom."
Jeremiah Wright, a United Church of Christ pastor in Chicago, told the RCRC audience how he once had been "homophobic" but now accepts that God has created a certain number of animals in each species to be attracted to the same sex. He now asks parents to accept their children's homosexuality and to avoid the example of Saul in the Bible, who Wright believes opposed Jonathan because of a homosexual relationship with David. "fag hags [meaning women who support homosexual causes] need to rise up and put Homo-bashers in their place," Wright concluded.
Joining Wright in the same workshop was Bishop Kwanebe Rainer Cheeks of the Inner Light Unity Fellowship, a New Age-type group. Cheeks, who is homosexual, said, "My sexuality is a gift of God. It is between me, God and whoever I'm with." He said he was merely following the example of Jesus, who preached love and acceptance but was rejected by the religious elites of His day.www.layman.org/layman/news/news-around-church/ecumenical-coalition.htm

"A Proud History as a Voice of Conscience
1967 Pro-choice clergy in New York form the Clergy Consultation Service on Abortion to assist women seeking abortions to find safe services. The founder, Reverend Howard Moody of Judson Memorial Church in New York, was an American Baptist minister. Within a year, the clergy service had 1,400 members throughout the nation.
1973 Mainline Protestant and Jewish leaders meet at the United Methodist Building in Washington, DC, to discuss the Roman Catholic Church’s pledge to overturn the new U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. This meeting, called by the United Methodist Board of Church and Society, leads to the formation of the Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights (RCAR)."

Our Mission
A Message from Reverend Carlton W. Veazey, President and CEO
The Mission of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice brings the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. The Coalition seeks to give clear voice to the reproductive issues of people of color, those living in poverty, and other underserved populations.
RCRC was founded in 1973 to safeguard the newly won constitutional right to abortion. The Coalition founders were clergy and lay leaders from mainstream religions, many of whom had provided women with referrals to safe abortion services before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade. The founders believed that there would be at most a ten-year struggle to secure the right to choose. In fact the struggle is far from over. It has changed and intensified, and the stakes are growing.

Cam, you are on point with this statement "America, your slip is showing". To me this is that ole vice that's called "divide and conquer" For a long time now they have been playing the race card. I once heard that he is Prince Hall Mason, then a Kappa, supports Minister L F, he goes to a racist church, and even tried to link his church, his middle name, to Muslim Terrorist. And they know that if they can get European Americans to see and accept those same misconstrued views that is going on the Fox shows and the Rush talk radio shows then they know that it will be Black vs. White. Now, they are telling him to denounce Rev. Wright? For what? They only want him to denounce him just divide US. They figure if they can get one of our strongest to "bow down" or "break him" then they figure that they have conquered us. Doing all this just so they can say he's not strong. How many times has this man has to apologize. Did Billy Graham apologize when he offended the Jews, did they make the supporters denounce him and the things he said ummm no. Has America apologized yet. If you'll also notice that Sen. Obama has not brought up the race card or even tried to "split" the races. They figure well if he hasn't done it then they'll do it just to disrupt the facts. I only heard portions of what Rev. Wright said but what I did hear....ain't it the truth? or Is it not the truth about what he was saying? Someone told me long ago that "they" hate the truth. It's always a double standard with us. When they plaster and degrade us, call us the 'N" word they say it's "Freedom of Speech" but when we stand up and tell the truth and say we want equality and we are not taking this anymore they say we are racist, Pro Black, causing problems.

Sad if REV Jeremiah really wanted Obama to be President he would chill and play the silent partner role but you know how those owt bruhs do. They show OWT ....

I beg to differ water. He is, in fact, a Black man. His plight in this country is no different than Tyrone who was born in Colli' Park, GA or TurkeyScratch, AR and made it through the system.
The American social system presses against him just as it does againt us. Noone stops to ask him if his daddy was African, Carribean, South American, Cuban, etc...and his mother being white and from Kansas is no different than the other multitude of racially mixed folks in this country.
He identifies himself as Black and the country acts upon him like a Black man. Period. And no matter how hard he tries, he can't change that.

A month or so ago, I saw Bill Maher on "Larry King Live". While on there he said something that gave me pause. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that Obama was "a black guy, but when one sees him, they don't see a black guy." Scary.
Obama's campaign has carefully crafted itself not to include his "blackness", if you will, as an issue. This was done, in my opinion, to allow the masses to hear his message: his message of "Change"/ "Hope", without having to deal with all of the issues that go along with his race.
Now that excerpts from Rev. Wright's sermons have surfaced, the issue of Obama's blackness, and his affinity to the black community has come to the forefront. I understand what Rev. Wright was saying. I agree with SOME of what was stated. I was raised in the "Black Church". I thank God for the "Black Church". However, I think that SOME of his comments went too far.
That being said, some things hold merit. ALL43 presidents of these United States of America have been WHITE MEN. Since reconstruction, ONLY 4 black men have served has US governors. The vast majority of mayors, congressmen, senators, generals and secretaries of (fill in the blank) are, in fact WHITE MEN.
We don't like talking about race in America, not for real. Hopefully, we will begin an HONEST discourse about the issue.

Every now and again the black church tends to shed light on the black community about things that some if not most black americans are unaware of. It's a know fact that some black folks don't read and are indeed uninformed.
I check in on CNN daily, watch the news on a regular and I've been kept abreast on a lot of things just by being a member of this board. But what the "regular" news tend to not publicize is the "world" news. Things happening outside the US that the media keep on the hush hush or are too busy focusing on Britney Spears and fad diets and will glaze over something that is really MORE important. I see it happen EVERYDAY! What Rev. Wright is talking about is indeed factual from a black mans point of view.
On the same token you have your Rev. Manning's who feel that because the white man did us a "favor" we should be grateful and show some "appreciation." But I doubt he is aware or is ignoring the fact that under Clinton's presidency he did not step up to the plate while genocide was occurring in Rwanda. More black men were "institutionalized" under his presidency than any other republican administration.
Politricks is VERY tricky and there is always someone somewhere ready to spill some beans and put it out there for the general public to hear and decide. Some will go to the left and some will go to the right but now is the time to force America's hand and open their eyes and ears and make a choice. The nominee's included. Some them true colors because it's going to come out one way or another. TRUST!!!

Politricks indeed.
Do you all see that the two dominant things that we are talking about now in the Democratic race are:
1. Race 2. Obama's pastor
Not Iraq, not healthcare, not the economy, not immigration reform, not trade policy, not foreign policy...
...we're talking about race and Obama's pastor...
...and not only are we talking about it, it's all we're talking about, and we're talking about it as though it were politically viable.
I mentioned to you all that the Republican mud slinging phalanx would not be waiting for Hillary to get finished before they started their handiwork. He is already be painted as anti-patriotic.
So no discussion on Healthcare reform, no discussion on how to recover economically, no discussion on how to sure up border security and how to reform immigration... the knuckle dragging mouth breathers of the extreme right are asking the question if Obama is a patriot based on the words of his pastor, his refusal to wear a flag lapel pin as a substitute for patriotisim, and a snap shot of Obama not putting his hand over his heart during the national anthem.
This is the $h!t the unadulterated and infiniely dumbed down horse $h!t that people would have some of you believe (and they will succeed in MANY cases) that is the basis on which you should vote.
I hope, I sincerely HOPE that you all are seeing this.

While we're at it, maybe we better investigate Obama's barber. If he has radical views on the economy then we can question how Obama DARE get his hair cut by such a man.
Youtube doesn't make or break you - soundbytes and talking heads do - because PEOPLE DON'T THINK.
Just to recap - we're not talking about Obama the candidate. We're talking about Jeremiah Wright, Black Panthers, Obama girl, Newports, Muslim Names, and whether his wife just now felt proud of her country...
...you see what they're doing and yet you're falling right in line with it - why? You know what? Why don't we just lynch him right now? Unlike the other candidates, Obama is worthy of all scorn, criticism, and examination under the microscope. Let's just go get him off the campaign trail, wrap him up in a burlap sack, and beat him to death with lead pipes. It would be quicker and more humane than this farce of pretending that the counterbalance to what some have called disproportionately favorable media coverage, is this dung flinging festival which has no basis on the issues, no grip on reality, and no aim other than "tarring and feathering" Obama.

I have a question for Water....actually I have a few. Which candidate do you feel is worthy of being elected president. The second is being anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage seems to be a criteria for being a viable candidate for you...the current president fits the bill do you think those two issue are the most important considering being honest and competent were a distant 3rd and 4th in past elections. Lastly if a president didn't condemn abortion and gay marriage but fell in line with all the other things you are looking for in a president in terms of policy would you vote for him?

There was a story last week; a real quick blip about a subsidiary of Haliburton--you know Cheney's company--that is making billions rebuilding Iraq, but this subsidiary has made their base of operations in the Bahamas. Why the Bahamas? So they can avoid paying into the quickly depleting Social Security system, so they can avoid paying payroll taxes, etc.
So it is not enough that this company got the contract to rebuild Iraq without having to compete with other, less connected companies for the bid, not enough that there have been reports that Haliburton is gouging the American taxpayer by not showing any fiduciary responsiblity in their oversight on spending....no, they are not getting rich enough, they also get to further rape America by taking our tax dollars and not paying back into the system.
There was brief media coverage about that then.....wait, hold on, Barack's pastor said what?
For real, I am pissed!
This is the same playbook, different players. The conservative talk show hosts continue to attack people by questioning whether they are patriotic enough. They did it to John Kerry, I mean really, the nerve, you attack a guy about his Vietnam service when the other guy (Bush) got out of even going by pulling strings. They did it to Max Cleland, he was a Georgia Senator who was attacked for not being patriotic enought. What is so special about Max Cleland you ask...HE LOST 3 LIMBS IN VIETNAM!!!! His Republican opponent never went. They even did it to McCain, the Vietnam POW. This was before he caved and decided to tow the party line.
Without a free press, America is doomed. You can never make me believe that Fox News is not a corporate mouth piece. Why would Hannity and Combs purchase all of those tapes of Jeremiah Wright? How many people had to work overtime viewing those tapes until they were able to find something incriminating?
If they want to impress me, they will investigate Haliburt0n and its ties to Bush and Cheney. I won't hold my breath...
