bitchassary is a reason some people become inactive.
My apologies for being late on this topic, but I feel it is something that I can address being that I have recently rejoined 00.
Inactivity is something that should not be looked upon as a serious issue. Sure we have members that will leave our organizations under some stressful situations, but it is the ones that are determined enough to stay that makes our organizations thrive. And by that I do not mean that those who fall are not considered fellow brethren or sisters and should be smitten from the face of the earth. And in some situations, it may not be some "bitchassary" as my reference so simply put it. Some times, "things" do get in the way of our being an active part of the organization. For me, it has been more of family matters. And it is not to be said that I will not come out to an occassional community service, but my priorities are first and foremost to my FAMILY, and then my Fraternity!

Those are some good points, however with some of the methods of getting into a organziation, people are getting more disgruntled, mainly due to a lack of relevant information and teaching. bitchassary still exist at very high levels, but I am hopeful that that tide will change.

I believe that members are getting more disgruntled due to the fact of disension among the ranks. And some of the issues have been relevant for years - ALUMNI vs. UNDERGRAD, Rival chapters, etc, etc, & etc. And some of these issues can be simply resolved just by talking about it face to face. But rather than being fraternal about it, we have those who backbite and backstab. We have sore losers and sore winners just for the fact that the course of the organization is not in their best interest. The one thing about the foundations is that over a certain amount of time, the foundation can crack and has to be supported by new structures. But what we have are those who are too stubborn and set in their ways to let new blood take the reins and run with the organization.

That is definately true. I do believe that we are entering a new era of membership, with organizations getting closer to the century mark, new generations of people taking the prominent positions, etc. With these changes, will come a time for greek organizations.

There are lots of reasons for being inactive...some are valid, and some are B.S. I was inactive for a while after became extremely ill and racked up THOUSANDS in medical bills. I reactivated last year, and now I'm determined to never become inactive again. My aunt--who is a Soror--says, "that was just something to do in college". What about you? If you were inactive for a while, why? And what are some B.S. excuses you've heard? Just ask the AKA's, they have over 200,000 members, but only 49,000 active members. 1 of 4 AKA's is still active, OR 3 of 4 AKA's is inactive. Now to them, I bet it's a serious matter. www.aka1908.com/present/membership/

Aren't AKAs the lowest among membership retention?

I have been inactive for 3 years and I'll probably be inactive for another 3 years. Reason?....cause I can and I couldn't find any logic in paying to hear other women bytch about things that do not stike my interest or ego.
Some B.S reasons: The lord told me I was worshipping the devil, my man doesn't like greeks....
Hold on, inactive and not being financial is different for me so before I continuee to put my foot in my mouth I need some clarification.

Some are inactive because of financial circumstances, ie my line sister just bought a house, but she plans on coming back next year. Others get tired of the paper vs. sand argument. Others just wanted the letters and once they got that they don't have any plans on coming back in.
