Ok, people who get honorary PhD's and then start calling themselves "Doctor" was high on my list of peeves, but this displaces that, at least temporarily. An honorary HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA??? C'mon people.Fantasia Barrino Receives Honorary Degree From Andrews High From AP: Singer Fantasia Barrino appeared in Greensboro Saturday, but she had a different reason to be on stage. The singer earned her honorary degree while becoming apart of Andrews High School graduation ceremony. Barrino walked with the graduates in a cap and gown at the Greensboro Coliseum today. Andrews High School was among at least five other high schools to graduate from the Guilford County schools system. Source AP Story Source: www.rickey.org/?p=42627

See, I had not read that. I read she was having such a hard time studying for the GED that they decided to give her an honorary HS diploma. Allegedly she tested ona 3rd grade level. I'll try to find the article I was reading.

Good for her... I mean who drops out of high school now-a-days? That's major wack to me. I can see dropping out of college, but highschool?

I have never in my life heard of a honorary high school diploma and there should be an uproar against it.

She had a dream to graduate high school. She may or may not have completed a GED depending on the source. If she completed the GED, why release a news story about the honorary diploma? She could be an inspiration to many young people about it never being too late to achieve goals with just the GED and the cap and gown walk serves as good publicity. It just seems like we're lowering the bar farther and farther if we're now creating honorary HS diplomas for people when earning the GED is an option.

Any school and school system should be ashamed of themselves if they give out honorary diplomas...pure foolishness.

Isn't there a way to take the GED (or similar test) and recieve a diploma instead of a GED? If she got the GED first and just wanted to walk, the school was nice to let her do so. Maybe honorary diploma was poor wording.
