Soo, I stumbled across this topic when I was at "home" on StopHazing and thought it was weird that it popped up after I had a convo with some of my friends.
Soooo, regionals are being hosted for great lakes region in Kentucky for Zeta Phi Beta sorority inc. and my friends are dead excited about it. That is all I have been hearing about for the past six months. So, one of them put it out there that I should since everyone is going. (hint: everyone is a Zeta but me) It kinda through me for a loop that they would ask me that due to the fact that it is a sorority event and I am not in someone sorority. I am thinking, what exactly would I be doing when I am down there with them? I don't know. It just seems like a weird situation all the way around especially when they are trying to persuade me from joining my aspiring org.
Sooo, questions....
In general, how do you feel about aspirants attending your convention, regionals, etc.?
If you were in my situation, what would you do? Would you go? What would you do if you went?
Just want to hear other opinions..

LOL @ Southie. On one hand, I think it could be a great teaching moment for aspirants....they get to see their prospective org on a much larger scale (might help for those who lean more toward joining "chapters" as opposed to the fraternity/sorority.) On the OTHER hand, well we have fools and pledge freaks out there (I ain't callin' nobody's name) who's mouths would water at the idea of that, like Wile E. Coyote when he sees the Roadrunner! That could lead to some awkward and troublesome instances. Let's face it, we can't trust the pledge freaks to act with sanity even at a regional or national convention...and horror or horrors, it could lead to a pledge freak getting his/her ass beat in front of er'body at the convention.

I laughed so hard at the bold part. I instantly thought of the dumb things he did. Wow @ the underline part. That is tragic if this really occurs.

If it's not her prospective sorority, then yeah, just go. If that's the case, it really isn't an issue at all. I don't know why she'd really have to ask.

It's funny, a renegade has more rights and fans than a true aspirant. The Greek word is messy.

I've attended regional and national events of alot of different organizations including the one I wish to join. The only thing about it is the assumption, and it is a fair one, that everyone in the midst of certain things are members of whatever org is hosting the convention. They always look at me some kinda way when they figure out i'm not but I don't worry much about it. I like seeing history being made so I like to attend BGLO things and watch them in positive lighting rather than the negative.

Aspirants should go to these events and asked to be made right then and there. Any organization would respect the boldness of this aspirant and would walk him/her to the back for "talks". It only makes sense to me.

I'on know now. Some Alphas I know personally, if the aspirant went up to them first, just might oblige him in a non-private setting. Now, when that individual actually become a member? That is a different story, lol!

Oh, no doubt a few pledge freaks from within our ranks (as well as er'body' else's ranks too,) would be ignorant enough to indulge, but Emma Peel made the claim that the ORGANIZATIONS would oblige these individuals.

Hummy - since you have no interest in being a Zeta, go and have a good time if you wish. Outside of the official business they are conducting, there should still be plenty to do and see.
