In all honesty, I have noticed that a lot of people have this view, whether they wish to admit it or not. Even a lot of people who aren't Greek seem to have a notion of the organizations stated above being the ones to join. Yep I know GDI's who feel like they are above Sigma and IOTA by just being unaffiliated... Are these individuals aspiring to be Greek, Reign?

Makes more sense to me now lol.. what if they weren't? I would have found it interesting. I know people that are not interested in Greek Life and have a negative opinion about all of the Orgs. They don't usually single out a specific group because they dislike Greek Life as a whole. I have also met a lot of GDI's that were aspiring and felt other orgs were beneath the org they were aspiring for. Don't usually meet too many hybrids.

I hate to sound Nupey-ish, but the Elite 5 really exist to most people? The Elite 5 would consist of the following organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha Alpha Kappa Alpha Kappa Alpha Psi Omega Psi Phi Delta Sigma Theta If you feel uncomfortable discussing this openly, I understand. This is a bait post specifically designed to get people arguing. These five orgs get alot of publicityand we all know it so there. Often times it's not good publicity but nonetheless it's publicity. Troopa is right. They do get more publicity for whatever reason(s).

In 46 years, Iota has never been sued for, nor had any allegations of Hazing, mistreatment of pledges, or any of the negative publicity our brother orgs have undergone. It's revealing that much of the negativity regarding Iota comes from primarily from other Greeks.
Despite this, Iota continues to do is build our own tradition and not rest upon one. As long as we remain true to our founding principle, we will be fine.

In what way do we "look" and "act" so much alike FATAL? Not around these parts, but I realize that things are different depending on where you are.

Makes more sense to me now lol.. There are people who aren't interested in becoming Greek, but they still have formed an opinion of which ones are "elite" and which ones are the ones to join "if you just want some letters".

There may be, but I haven't met a lot of them. Most of the people I've met who have a bias were interested at one time in one of the orgs considered elite. The ones that didn't care, just didn't care about any of it.

True, but at the same time, most people aren't going to say to you, "I think Alpha Sigma Omega is wack" if they know you are a member of that organization. With that being said, however, sometimes it depends on where you are: there are people who judge by the orgs on their campus; there are people who judge by what orgs they see doing things in their community; and there are people who are just plain biased because of family ties.

You'd be amazed about how truthful some people can be about their feelings towards some orgs even in front of a member. Many that don't respect the org, don't show respect to the members either. I've had high school aux members of certain orgs. try and talk shyt..lol Very true about the reasons people judge though. I just think people are going to always be biased by our personal situations..

Wasn't there a book also talking about this? Can't remember the name of it, but it was talking about black elites and it did have listed the 5 orgs. mentioned as the elite orgs. to join. I wish I could remember the name of that book! There may be, but I haven't met a lot of them. I have a copy. While I enjoy reading it from time to time, it speaks of a bygone era. Society continouslys evolves and new paradigms constructed. To hold on to what used to be vice adapting to a new reality can be foolish.

@e.B. - Prominent - Without question. Dominant - ?
Question - Why do you push this same orthodoxy in every web/msg board you are on?

There is the misconception of an Elite 5. Interestingly people are denouncing the "Elite 5" to join the bottom third.
