Oh yea... but Kingston has increasingly gotten worse over the years because of the drug trade, etc. Back in the 80's/90's, Jamaica used to be a "safe" place to frequent (according to tourists) but now folks are scared to go- especially people that have family out there.... I know one thing I have family out there and I won't DARE go out by myself rompin' around Kingston...

^ Cam you a fool.
Actually, this isn't something "new" in Jamaica (as far as violence is concerned). Over the past 20-30 years (BP or someone correct me if I'm wrong) the climate in Jamaica has gotten worse as far as the drug trade. He is trying to be like Nino Brown.... the "real" Nino won't put their family (or country no less) in danger- they would lie on their sword and pay the price but would have their family set when they went away...

I wouldn't even fly in/out of that airport. My mom and sister just returned, right before things got this bad.

Unpopular Opinion: While Dudus is a bad-azz criminal who should indeed be extradited and punished for his many crimes, the escalation of this situation is symptomatic of much larger issues in Jamaica, ESPECIALLY in places like Tivoli Gardens which have too long been overlooked.
Many of those people who are against his extradition feel that Dudus and his people have done for them what Jamaica's government has failed to do. He has sent their kids to school, provided protection from outside crime, given the poor food, etc...This man is like a sort of Robin Hood to those who may have otherwise gone without.
While I want to see him extradited and punished, and I am sad and anguished over the escalation of this particular scenario, I am even more outraged that the people have been put in such a position that a DRUG LORD of all people is their hero and saving grace. Shame on Jamaica's government for being so corrupt and allowing the disparity to grow to this extent.
And don't believe for 1 second that the government wasn't(until VERY recently) also protecting this "drug lord".
There are systemic issues that existed before Dudus came to power, and they will exist after he is long gone and has been punished, as long as the goverment continues to ignore the needs of the poor.
::END Unpopular Opinion RANT::
I have family in Kingston including a cousin at University of the West Indies who has literally been ducking gunfire on a daily basis for the past week or so...Needless to say, I do hope this unrest quickly comes to an end and that there is no further loss of life.
I heard that the US, Canada, and the UK have issued warnings concerning travel to Jamaica. FYI

ok....
Dudus is a big time Drug Lord in Kingston JA. His community, places like Tivoli Gardens, have a lot of respect for him despite his line of work (he does have some legitimate business deals but you know how that go). He has provided food, schooling, housing, etc...
Now he and his crew (AKA the shower posse) have been trafficking guns and drugs to and from the US and is also responsible for some murders. The US had wiretapping that "proved" that Dudus was responsible. In 2007, the US executed extradition papers but it took some time for processing. Well now the time has come and the US wants Dudus NOW but the Prime Minister, who is part of the same political party as Dudus pulled a stall tactic and claimed that the wiretap was illegal and their legal team need to look over the evidence. He also lobbied a law firm in the US to help defend and squash the matter. Well the Jamaican people felt that there was overreaching on the Government's part and demanded Golding (Prime Minister) to step down. Well he changed his tune, signed the extradition papers and the "war" began. Dudus people will not surrender their LORD and the police will "do what it takes" to get him. As it stands, Dudus is still missing and people are still dying....
Levelone, it is absolutely FINE to go to JA however my advice would be not to travel to or through KINGSTON...stay away! Montego Bay and the North Coast (Ocho Rios or Negril) is where most of the tourist attractions are so you do not need to go that side. Use the Montego Bay Airport.

In a nutshell...YES! lol I would love to hear what Pop has to say about this!!! To that point....unless I was on business, I wouldn't fly into Kingston anyway. I'm just sayin....most folks have no reason to be on that side of the island anyway. Especially if you are just a tourist. I know Americans who go all the time on business but for a tourist? Nah....

She is saying the opposite and I agree with her. It is OKAY to fly into Mo-Bay. DO NOT, however, fly into Kingston. I would stay away from Kingston, airport included. There have actually been some shoot-outs and deaths right by the airport, same damn airport my mom and sister flew in and out of only 2 weeks ago

FYI: Dudus was captured a few days ago (allegedly on his way to the US Embassy to turn himself in). He is currently in NYC.
