The claims of Eddie Long would possibly fall under pedastry. I didn't say I agree with it but intent does matter when you are looking at the potential affects. The child who believes he was being "taught" about sexuality will view his predator as a teacher. The child who believes he was in a relationship views the predator as a lover. The action is harmful either way but the experience is different because of the intent. People do have different views on thieves who rob for "selfish" reasons than those who rob for "community." APIL- Since this is the religious section and folks get up in arms about "judgement" I'll refrain. Sistah they are all predators regardless of their intent. Lets look at three scenarios here Pederasty in Sparta ( lil tid bit for those who LOVED 300....) Pedophillia amongst family members Ritual Sodomy in Judiasm (with Mohel sucking penis of newborn after circumcision) Catholicism and Islam They are all the same to me. No matter the intent they are all the same period.

^^^ Just because numbers are unpublished they don't exist? Other denominations tend to be more vocal in blaming the victim. We can take this whole Eddie Long situation as an example. If he was a Catholic priest (especially a white priest) the many would not question his guilt or the role that the boys played. Stories of "church hurt" are an indication that the triflin' behavior found within the Catholic church occurs across the board. Churches investing in malpractice or similar insurance is an indication that these issues are no restricted to the Catholic church. It is a bit of a leap to extrapolate Eddie Long and his church to the whole of Protestantism. Eddie has singular control over his individual church and doesnt have to answer to anyone. He is the epitome of the phrase that "absolute power corrupts absolutely". Again, not to pick on the Catholic Church hierarchy, but if 40% of your workforce is gay, then the likelihood of you having a pedophilia problem does not seem outrageous to me. Whereas, most Protestant churches have to answer to Trustees, Deacons, Elders, or other lay leaders, the chances that they would knowingly keep pedophiles in charge are lessened. Eddie Longs problem is individual. The Catholic Churchs' problem is structural.
