Tecumseh was that thin, weird, crazy-haired boy from ATL that was on one of those Real World tours. They called him Teck for short. Someone in his family was part of a old school R&B group....can't remember who it is right now. Hell, I can deal with Saga....at least we know where that name originates. It's Leprechanisha and Humidoria that I can't stand! WAIT....SOMEONE DID NAME THEIR CHILD TECUMSEH? Had I known that......I would have clowned that child's maw and paw too! <---gets pushed into thread by DST 91/Pyramid Twin en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tecumseh<---had a friend whose middle name is Tecumseh...in his late 40's

Sacejewia [actually pronounced Sa-Ga-Shoe-Wa] is from what most people would call Sa-Ca-Ja-Wee-A [which is pronounced phonetically] I'll give all of you a little history lesson. In the language that the Shoshone tribe [Sacejewia's tribe] spoke, which is now present day Idaho, MY name is pronounced the way it is shown above. Sa-Ca-Ja-Wee-A, is how you pronounce it when you sound it out, you know, like they teach you how to do in preschool. Its ok, I don't take this blog personally at all, after 2 decades of having to educate people it doesn't bother me anymore. Just thought I would shed a little light on all of the "collegiate men and women" that take the time to post ignorant blogs insulting a person's name. They're are plenty Shaniqua's and Tyranique's out there not attempting to make a difference but we can take the time out to talk about THREE fellow Sorors because their names are different?! I find that to be a bit odd.
Please show people [the younger generation] why this organization was founded; to help build up women, to educate them, to help them make a difference in the community, and not tear them down because you find something about them different. Believe it or not, people look up to us.
-- Its not Camera, its CARMERA by the way.
-- Sacejewia.

Has anyone taken the time to consider the names of some of the founders? OSCEOLA doesn't exactly flow from your tongue...or ARIZONA..ok as a state, but as a name? I have mad love for the Founders of ALPHA, but VERTNER isn't exactly a smooth name either. lol

I think others commented on the historical nature. Are you from Idaho? On another note- I don't think Arizona is a bad name for a person. Crazy state but I kinda like the name.

I love how folks say they don't take stuff personally but then go on rants. It's a funny name, regardless of the historical origins, we aren't the first, won't be the last to comment. Carmera is just as unusual as Camera but I get folks wanting folks to use your correct name.
<---Is equal opportunity. Gives side eye to Shaniquas and Tyraniques too.

I used to get weird looks and comments about my first name growing up. People always butchered it, especially teachers. Even other Black folk would ask, "Where did yo mama get that name from?!" I learned what my name means when I was 8 years old and was told who I was named after. I've been proud of my name ever since.
The moral of this story: Tell them to kiss yo as*, er uh, butt!! If you like your name and know why your parents gave it to you, don't sweat it if other people find it funny or odd.
