INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - All of Indianapolis' metro detectives are working the case of a quadruple murder on the city's near northeast side.
Police found the bodies of two young mothers clenching their babies in a home at the 3200 block of Hovey Street.
Police say someone called 911 Monday night around 10:30 p.m. to report a break-in at a home across the street. Officers arrived on the scene and determined the home was vacant and left. Soon after, another 911 call was made to this home.
That's where officers say they found a gruesome crime scene. Two young mothers, both 24-years-old: Gina Hunt and Andrea Yarrell dead after being shot several times. In their arms, their babies: 23-month-old Jordan Hunt also dead of multiple gunshot wounds. And, 4-month-old Charlii Yarrell, suffering from gunshot wounds but still alive. She later died at Methodist Hospital.
"We have no idea what the motive would be to kill any child," said Assistant Chief Eva Talley-Sanders with IMPD.
Police say they found what appeared to be a pound of marijuana, scales, a safe and guns in the home. Just north of the home, along the street, they found more guns.
"There was a report that two black males were observed running northbound on the street shortly before the police arrived," said Sgt. Paul Thompson with IMPD.
"Every unit in the police department has made this a top priority from narcotics investigators to district officers to command level individuals everybody is working on this case," said Chief Michael Spears with IMPD.
IMPD say it has more than 80 officers actively working on the case, already taking tips and tracking down leads.
"It's a special kind of evil that is involved in a crime like this and we are going to use a special kind of policing to bring these individuals to justice," said Chief Spears.
Police are urging anyone with information about the murders to call them. If you want to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
