yesterday I visited my mothers church and notice they have a senior praise dance group. They were between the ages of 67-80. I noticed they really couldn't get low (knees wouldn't allow it)but they did a great job dancing for the LORD.

I'm with 91, I'm a PDHater!
To be honest, I think that the praise dance team should not be in churches at all. That's things of the world. Call me an old saint at heart, but some of the things that these chuches are doing today is a bit much.

LMAO @ the video... I think they are Ghanaian?
Anywho, I agree with DamieQue... I think the ONLY thing they should NOT do is Gospel Rap... I promise I went to church and they were singing, to the "Run This Town" instrumental...."Jesus gone run this town tonight..." I was DEAD. I had to call on the Lord to keep from DYING of laughter.
ETA: I don't think there should be an age limit. Let everyone be able to participate however they can.... Except Gospel Rap, that's O.D.

I disagree with MissB08 and Damie! Not all talents or lack there of should be showcased in the church. That is what is wrong with corruption of the world now. This stuff or "talents" was not derived from the church and therefore should not be used in the church. It is purely the devils work.

Hey Hummy
Maybe I am thinking more of Mime Dancing but that is more about the facial and just some hand movements to express the song

mime dancing back in the day was used to conjure (sp?) up spirits and mimic them. What kind of spirits are we trying to conjure up in church???

Eventually, folks will be pole dancing for the Lord. Hell, they are making it an Olympic Sport....why not?
The Warden has been belly dancing for a few years now and SWEARS that there is nothing sexual about it. I STILL give her the Scooby-Doo when she says it. I suggest that if there is nothing sexual about it, then she can go to her COGIC church and Belly Dance for Jesus....let's see how the good sanctified folk take that....

This stuff or "talents" was not derived from the church and therefore should not be used in the church. It is purely the devils work. Just for clarity sake, I said that the talents that they have in basic art forms. I knew someone would come in here with the pole dance analogy and that's why I made the distinction. Aside from the fact that the purpose of a pole dance is by it's very concept and design something inherently meant to be sensual and erotic. We could exclude it on that ground alone.
And if we want to use derivation from the church as the standard for inclusion, I would suggest there is a VERY long list of things that would be excluded - including sermons or hymns done via, tape, cd, dvd, t.v. broadcast, internet...
...why should any of those be used in the process of preaching the Gospel or praising God since they weren't derived from the Church?

That video had me not just dead... but dead by my laptop, found, investigated my death, concluded it was from laughing, had a funeral, had chicken and potato salad afterwards, while my body was 6 feet under and STILL ROTFL
Someone posted a comment on youtube about that and said this:
"I am open to different kinds of praise..We all have our personal secret time with God... this is a NEW form of praise....ONLY THE ONE ABOVE KNOWS.....it didn't seem too sexual in context I thought more graceful and maybe the pole made him feel like he was flying or at a higher level with God.. "
I can understand the part about how we do have our own time with God and different ways to express that. I LMAO at the part about the pole made him feel like he was flying...How did that spread eagle move he did make him feel? Anywho, I also agree with Damie at the fact that, yes, the pole in itself suggests sexuality and eroticism.
Therefore, I feel that if you cannot have Praise Dancers at age 50, 60, 70, and so on, then do not encourage the kids to do it. When I go to church, I see people dancing all the time. That is how they show their joy and love for being in the house of God and just for God's love period. There is a difference between dancing that is acceptable for the church setting to show your thanks to and love for God and dancing on a pole or in the club.
And no, dancing like this is not acceptable:

I agree with Damie and Missie...except I don't mind gospel rap.
I grew up in the church and value innovations of various forms.
If you don't want folks dipping in dabbling in worldy entertainment then you can't be strict on the various POSITIVE artforms folks use to uplift the Lord. That's my take.
