yea I steal..but anywhoo
Greeks, what do you think of members who join simply to advance their political/social career? Aren't the organizations really social organizations, anyway? If they do they do their community service requirements, buy a keychain, and are financial, would it bother you to know that deep down they really don't give a crap?

Yes it would bother me. If they really don't give a crap... if all it is, is just a political vehicle, you can imagine how they would treat it... and it's principles. With the title of "friend" comes many rights and responsibilties. If you aren't interested in being friends with those you meet, literally - what good are you to us or the organization?

Most of the successful ones (that I've met) became Bruhz BEFORE they became famous. When I was at the Clave in St. Louis, Joe Torry and (I think I saw Ricky Smiley too) were walking around the hotel lobby nalia'ed out like everyone else... no entourage... no fanfare. They said was'up, we said was'up back and kept it moving. Yeah we're proud of them... but when it gets right down to the basics few of them (that I have ever seen) have ever acted like they're a different brand of Que. Not Vernon Jordan, not Jeremiah Wright, not Jesse. Amonst the Bruhz, they are just the Bruhz

I not only have a problem with those who would join simply for political gain but also those inactive members who get active just to ask for support.
To Damie's point...in New Orleans last year, I took a picture with Hill Harper after having a short talk with him. He was like any other neo...ready to grip up everyone, wanting to jump into conversations, etc...Roland Martin was the same way....we sat in a bar area (Roland didn't drink) and had conversation with other folks without pretense or expectation.
I actually pulled up some signs of a brother here in LR who is running for office and someone decided to put up signs in front of the frat house.

That goes well beyond "leaning" on the sheild. That's equivalent to lying prostrate on it!!

Sigh at the yard signs...
...I was on a distro about this very issue just a while back. And the Bruh who penned the editorial basically had an air tight a point too I couldn't even argue with him. You can't just decide to be the "Bruhz" again when you need something. Where have you been when you didn't need something?

I had to say "Man, don't even show your ass up" to a "brother" once who inquired as to whether our meetings were still on the same night (WTF?) so he could come to peddle his new business venture!

If a person is active (does alot) in their chapter then I guess I can over look it why they may have joined. However if they ain't doin' ish for the chapter/frat and want my (our) support...forget it.
