We have a bunch of terms or sayings that we all use. We may have "only heard" it, repeated it but do we know exactly what it mean? Some saying as some historical relevance but again do we truly know why we are saying it or them today.
One of the more popular terms that we use (more so these days) is "Uncle Tom". My question is those of us who use this term, or calling someone this term do you truly know what it means? Be honest. Do you even know what that term means? Or do you call someone that because you've heard someone else call someone that?
I've heard and soon will learn that calling someone an Uncle Tom isn't a bad term. People only THINK it's bad because of what they've heard and what's been told to them. I've heard that Uncle Tom wasn't bad or what society would have you to believe because he tried to help the slaves.
Now I will confess, it's been a Looooooong time since I've read that book. Maybe I was younger and didn't quite understand the character and what he was truly trying to do. I am seriously thinking about rereading that book...lol
What are your thoughts on this? It could be some other saying or term and not necessarily about this character in the book Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Sambo and Quimbo are the essence of the Uncle Tom statement. If you read the story of these two guys, it has pledging written all over it.
Tom was not just trying to help slaves, he wanted the slaves and his MASTERS come to know Jesus Christ. So in reality, Uncle Tom is not just a racial slur, it is anti-Christian.
So the many blacks who use the term are just a product of the old adage, "if there's something you don't want a black person to know, put it in a book. I could go political with this, but I will leave that alone for now.

I like how people take the most random thing and link it to something totally unrelated.
