On a side note, I look at what these 2 have in common (in particular their legacies) and others (Williams, Abernathy, King, Scott, etc.) more than anything else, what they share is a lifetime of service and work done on behalf and for the benefit of people OTHER than themselves.
The point should be evident.
On sad occasions like these, I hope we all (and I mean everyone) honor their memories by continuing their work. I hope that we redouble our efforts and commit to doing something (anything) to make life just a little bit easier, a little bit better, for those around us and for those yet to come. We all stand on the shoulders of Giants. One day, it will be our turn to BE the Giant.
One love to all y'all
~Damez

I literally cried this morning! She was no only a legend, but and inspiration and this world was better because of her and her diligent efforts. She was one of my favorites.. when I met her as a neo, I was shaking like a groupie! When I won our chapters Dorothy Height award, again, I shed tears...It is with great admiration that I say, may you rip in peace eternally Soror Height.

Y'all I am truly sad. I am sad because her body gave out long before her spirit did. I am sad because there isn't anyone who can pick up the torch and run with it the way she did. I am sad because causes she championed will not advance as they would have with her leadership and support. I am sad because I am a better person having had the opportunity to sit and chat with her. I am sad because young Sorors and other people will not have the opportunity to see what true service looks, sounds, and acts like. Reading about it is just not the same.
Rest well Soror and know that we will honor you by continuing your work.

I wish I were in the Erria! I'm sure we'll celebrate her life in NO this summer.
Obama to deliver eulogy at Dorothy Height's funeral . By Jose Luis Magana, AP
President Obama will deliver the eulogy Thursday at the funeral of civil rights leader Dorothy Height, the White House announced.
Obama also issued a proclamation ordering flags on public buildings to be flown at half-staff Thursday, "as a mark of respect for the memory" of Height, who died last week at the age of 98.
Height spent her long life fighting for civil rights, from anti-lynching laws to voting rights.
Here's the president's proclamation:
As a mark of respect for the memory of Dorothy Height, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that, on the day of her interment, the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on such day.
I further direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-sixth day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fourth.
Barack Obama
