Most of us have said that our sorors and brothers (especially those whom we know personally) can expect an elevated level of obligation from us. Do you think there should be any exceptions to this?
Is there anything a fellow member can do to tear their proverbial drawz (shout out to Chal and '91) with you to the extent that you no longer feel obligated to perform those basic brotherly/sisterly duties for them?

Since I am brushing up on my biz org right now, I will answer your question in that context.
I treat my Fraternity Brothers not with compassion and duty alone but with the nature of a care the most sensitive, such that it can, and often does, rival that of a fiduciary.
That said, if the level of one of my Fraternity Brothers' manner of care toward me falls below what I deem to be reasonable, then our relationship will decrease to that of a Majority-Minority stockholder relationship. I will help you if I will benefit or if it will not affect what I have going on.
I have not had a situation in which I have had to cut a Brother off yet. *knocks on Leja's head*

And will likely have to do it again real soon. Not something I'm particularly happy about, but it must be done!

The good thing about having someone lean on you is that you can lean back on someone else. I always find some younger brother to provide for me when I visit.

No!
The moment you have accepted OUR letters is not only a subscription to the allegiance of OUR Fraternity, it is also an understanding of the high level of responsibility that comes along with those letters. I take the shield into war like the spartan's phalanx. One weak spot can make the whole thing come crumbling down.
