At least verbally. OK, here's the background. Tavis went on Tom Joyner's show and said that Al Sharpton had said that Obama didn't need an agenda for Black America and that Sharpton would be attending an upcoming meeting Tavis is hosting in Chicago. Listen to Al get all up in Tavis' a$$ about distorting his statements. Some people never learn. DAAAAAAMNNNN! www.oliverwillis.com/2010/02/23/audio-tavis-smiley-al-sharpton-fight-over-obama/

Tavis Smley got his just dessert. Tavis lined himself up on the wrong side of the Mason Dixon line and now he has to pay the price of a public lynching. ...

I heard excerpts of this. I am glad that Al went in on Tavis, he has been bashing Obama for 3 years now. I really used to like Tavis so I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a long time, but I never heard him even trying to be objective when it comes to Obama. Now he wants to bash other black leaders because they are working with Obama, he flat out lied on Al Sharpton. He is getting what he deserves. Al Sharpton alluded to the fact that he is trying to sell books and not actually doing any work, while he (Al) is actually engaging the president on issues that are important to black people.

I read the transcript of what Tavis said and then heard snippets of the exchange between Sharpton and Smiley...I cringed and turned the station. It just sounded like two 60 something men "going off" on each other. I could just see the neck rolling and chest bumping in my head, LOL.

I don't know how he expected to not get called on the carpet. And then he has the nerve to go , "well will you be there?" after Al establishes that he never agreed. Al's response? "No, that doesn't work for my schedule."
Tavis ran off the rails years ago when his own ego clouded his "mission".

Tavis got on my nerves with his personal vendatta against Obama when he was running, and even now.
It's like, shutup! I have lost a lot of respect for him.

Just listened to all of it. Is it me, or did Tavis get a little heated when Sharpton mentioned that Roland Martin should host this talk, buahahahahahahahahahahaha!
And Al did catch him talking out both sides of his mouth.

All of these so called leaders are opportunisit, however I have known Sharpton in the trenches while Mr. Travis is proving a forum for the elite to speak. Is this completely wrong? To each its own. However, if a person is going to actually quote another person, then do so...not make up info and then when called out...not once but twice, they run for cover.

That was just a really bad exchange. Tavis may not have intended to, but he misquoted Al Sharpton. And I agree with Southie, that one thing you can say about Al (for better or for worse) is that he will get out on the frontlines. Tavis usually does have conversations with elites (which it could be argued has some value)
All in all, Tavis I think got a little ahead of himself on a quote, Sharpton called him on it, and engaged in more than a little bit of gamesmanship keeping Tavis off-balance.

Personally I think the quote was justified and Al Sharpton used semantics and spitting(yall know that negro was spitting when he got animated) to get out of it. So Al Sharpton if you come out and say President Obama doesn't need to ballyhoo a black agenda are we supposed to also think you feel he should weigh in on black initiatives? I mean you didn't say it then why say it now on your show? Cmon with the bullchit Sweatsuit Perm. Hell Obama has an agenda laid out for the Hispanic community, why not us as well?

VP, or whoever else knows the answer to this...
What is in the hispanic agenda?
I am baffled at Tavis and his push for Obama to have a black agenda? What does that actually mean? Does it mean that Obama, as President, should push Congress to make laws that specifically benefit black americans? I hope not because that would prove to me that Tavis is an ignoramus....Or, is it that Obama needs to have an actual written document entitled "black agenda" and a prioritized list of black issues?
Can someone enlightened me on what exactly is Tavis Smiley's objective?
Thanks...

How do you feel about Obama allowing the Gays and Lesbians to hijack the Civil Rights Movement? What would Dr. King think? Thanks for your response in advance. I'll reserve the rest of commentary for later Vudu Prince

funny dude! lol I asked a question and now I THINK im batting 1000...How about you kill the sarcasm and answer the question with the intelligence that you were blessed with!
Since when did immigration reform become a hispanic agenda! Are hatians hispanics? Are jamaicans hispanics? Are nigerians hispanics? Clearly NO...so if a bill was passed in the name of immigration reform it would affect ALL minorities not just hispanics. Can we say the same about a "black agenda bill"?
Gays hijacking the civil rights movement? lol How are gays hijacking the movement? (A GENUINE question because I do not see it)
Dr. King would think that we all lost our minds because he believed that we should be judged not by color or (sexual orientation) but by the content of our character. We fall short!

Clearly NO...so if a bill was passed in the name of immigration reform it would affect ALL minorities not just hispanics. Can we say the same about a "black agenda bill"? YOU can't be serious. Sistah Haitians are being deported from this country right now as we speak even with devastation in their homeland. On whitehouse.gov after the immigration reform plan is totally laid out the last bullet it speaks on states this. Work with Mexico
President Obama will promote economic development in Mexico to decrease the economic desperation that leads to illegal immigration. Your correlation failed and failed hard. There is a overwhelming difference between the handling of immigrants of African decent vs others. I'll let you go and research the numbers for yourself. I don't feel like teaching today. Dr. King didn't risk his life and ultimately die so that people who CHOOSE to live a certain lifestyle get rights because of their choice. Nobody should get preferential treatment because of what they do in their bedroom. The civil rights movement was designed for people who were and are discriminated against based on who they are NOT what they choose to be. I didn't choose to be black, women don't choose to be women, the elderly don't choose to be elderly. The Civil Rights Agenda of this president does briefly speak on the need to retool our justice system highlighting drug courts specifically. In my estimation that needs to be the lead cause but instead we hear of repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell, We hear of Civil Unions, We Hear of Removing the Constitutional Ban on Same Sex Unions. All this while our babies are funding the Prison Industrial Complex which outside of Healthcare is the most stable portion of our economy. It seems to me you need to be more informed before you put yourself out there. You are attempting to take a stance and have posted twice with not one cited resource to back up your assertions. Catch up.

VP, I asked you when did the immigration issue become a hispanic agenda and you referred me to whitehouse.gov...bad idea because it only proved my point...which is the immigration issue affects ALL minorities and not just hispanics! Read it...
Oh wait, let's address the ONE item out of FIVE points you decided to highlight. Mexico is our geographic "siamese twin"...its only LOGICAL to have a specific plan laid out with regards to Mexicans because they can walk right into our country making it harder to control their flow in and out of country. The fact that the Administration specified them does not by itself explain why the President need to address a black agenda.
As for the civil rights movement, while it was born out of the unequal treatment and injustice towards blacks it was not limited to it...women, hispanics and other minority groups were "covered'...because there is now UNEQUAL TREATMENT AND INJUSTICE TOWARDS GAYS they too should be in this group and will be in time. Your personal views about them is irrelevant...no human being should be treated less than or deprived of rights provided to all...This is how I see Dr. King's dream.
P.S. Dude, you need to catch up...open up your limited ass mind...you ain't said shit! I genuinely asked you a question and you have yet to answer it. Instead you TRIED to insult my intelligence. Well that is where YOU FAILED and FAILED HARD NEGRO!
@ AKA...yeah Ive been gone awhile but I ain't never scurred! LOL!
