SPIN-OFF OF THE "PAPER" THREAD.
This letter was written by a member of APhiA to one of my Sorors (AKA)...simply because she tried to befriend him on FB - AFTER meeting and mingling with him twice. His first response was "I don't KNOW you" - she said, "REALLY? Oh, ok no problem..." He wrote back and said he refuses to deal with "girls" who disrespect his Frat and BGLO. She responded back confused - questioning how she disrespected his Frat.
This is his response:
January 11 at 12:52pm Report I never said you disrespected me or my Fraternity. You clearly have no respect for my Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha, their Founders, their history, or their legacy. In fact, you seem to have to respect for history at all since you have no respect for your elders or deference. NEVER call yourself a Neo, because YOU NEVER had Prophytes. I'm sure you don't even understand the significance of these ancient names or their historic relationship (originating in the Black Land you may know is Egypt).
For you an African-American woman to feel you have to right, the power, and the privilege to call yourself a sister of the FIRST and the FINEST Sisterhood known to the world of EXCELLENT human beings, and simultaneously disrespect MY SORORS, MY SISTERS, both current and old school IN ANY FASHION is ridiculous and a blatant tear in the silky Salmon Pink and Apple Green fabricated STRONGHOLD that is ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA! You ought to be ashamed of yourself, but since you're not, I CALL YOU SKATER.
Let it be known, being MADE is a mindset, not a list of nearly impossible tasks as you SKATERS think and lie to your grad Sorors about. Its a since of mutual respect amongst men and women for our love and deeply-rooted value of our organizations history and legacy, and your desire to move ONWARD & UPWARD into new stages of EXCELLENCE. We have Prophytes because we were humble enough, and never too defensive to learn from our elders. We have Neophytes because we care and value our Fraternal future. YOU HAVE NOTHING but letters that you could NEVER fully understand or value!
Let it be known, disrespectful "Greeks" will never be the future as long as people like me are around. "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in times of comfort and and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy" (BROTHER & Dr. King, Jr). I can always tell someone's character by the portrait of their values--you are a Skater, a disrespectful girl who lacks the character of a REAL African-American woman, a woman never made, but BORN ready for anything.
Sincerely, TXXXXXX BRXXXXXX
KEEP IN MIND...this young lady is EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE and A.C.T.I.V.E.!!!!
What she lacked was HIS validation.
WHAT SAY YOU OOA???

So you're telling me this was written by an adult Black male? This dude is crazy, she ought to be glad he doesn't want to deal with her, LOL. This really bothers him...are folks really this upset? This dude is off...if I heard someone talking like this I'd back away slowly. I hope you blocked all contact info before sending your response.

Lmao @ Adisa! My thoughts excatly. Who cares that much about how someone came into an org that isn't there's? Dude, be serious. He seems like one of those who was a nobody before letters and now think he's the ish. As far as letters of my sisterhood and what they mean, how HE gonna get on her and HE don't know them either?
New greeks, boy I tell ya!

Straight up - I think this dude is way over the top and too emotional. None of this is THAT serious. And that huge diatribe was over what? What’s the point of it all?
On top of that, this is a female he’s talking to - A sister I presume. Why is he that concerned about her value to AKA (a Female Org mind you) and how it’s affecting her womanhood? Hmmm…
Suspect.

*Comes out of retirement*
Some of you all know I'm a cynic. The older I get, the less I see truth or meaning in the things people do, say, and believe - I become more cynical with each passing day. And screeds such as the one authored by the T.B. give me just cause.
What in this life is actually real, actually important... and what is not? We are supposed to be the cream of the crop and yet we continue to demonstrate that we have almost NO ability to tell the difference between what is real and what is not, what is important and what is not... it's like Spike Lee had it right all along. WAKE UP!!!! I can't even waste the keystrokes disecting his thoughts, time just won't permit it.
But Damie you're a proponent of pledging
Yes - as a rite of passage and as a process to provide meaning along a journey - not something that threatens to kill or maim anybody and certainly not some arbitrary, completely artificial, static measure of character... these people can't see the forest for the trees. You know what the real irony is? There is probably no greater argument against pledging than the chance you might produce even ONE person like himself. But you know what? What do I know. Do what you like, say what you like, believe what you like. I'm done.

My dear brother:
I offer my hand although I don't expect you to grip me. You would probably label me a skater as I didn't enter the fraternity as an undergrad. That is fine though. Regardless, I believe in doing things the right way so shake my hand anyway and let us begin.
Please don’t take this the wrong way but, shut the fuck up! You are an asshole who obviously has a surplus of time while operating a deficit of common sense. That rebuke was for the lady you scorned without apparent reason.
I believe your beloved PROPHYTES must have kicked you in the head one to many times while filling your young and impressionable mind with fairy tales, bedtime stories and outlandish flights of fancy regarding the "Power of the Process". I bet you still walk around like a monkey and think that is something for which you should be proud.
Your behavior towards this sister is evidence of your extended adolescence. Grow up, read your ritual and stop believing everything people tell you. Who are you to tell this sister about her process or knowledge of her sorority? What grand dispensation granted you authority to decide who is made and who isn’t? What qualifies you to certify the authenticity of her as an African American woman?
You obviously didn't pledge; you were hazed. You didn't humble yourself to learn humility; you were forcefully humiliated and made to beg for an identity. There's a difference.
Please share this letter with whomever you feel needs to read it.
I hope your "process" prepared you to accept my criticism for what it is: my criticism. Should you decide to reject, accept, or dismiss any, part or all of it is of no consequence to me. I am only offering "wise counsel" to another brother.
Your communication was reckless. You should apologize.
Fraternally, Cam

He constantly talks about his Big Sister Ethel - NEVER mentions his 7 Jewels. :-\ LOL! *petting the elephant in the middle of the room* What's really funny about all of this is that everyone knows the historical ties of Alpha Nation. But in actuality most Alphas and AKAs I know have next to nothing to do with each other IRL, outside of blood relatives and maybe an annual campus or community event, of course. The latter is not unusual, and in fact expected to some degree across the D9 spectrum. So while he thinks he's doing his "sorors" a service and speaking on their behalf, I bet tens of thousands of those sorors wouldn't spit on him if one of his "A's" was on fire. It's one thing to appreciate the Lyle/ Howard U. history and all, it's another to distort it completely. *walks the elephant outside to eat some peanuts*

Does depend on where you are. Not that distance with each other where I'm from. We rode for each other in ug. Same can be said now, even when I went to grad school.
