This story has been on the news all morning. I have mixed emotions about it. The jist of it is : A school board member was supposed to be giving a motivational speech to some Middle School-ers and it turned into a graphic informational about sex. Needless to say, parents are outraged and seeking the death of the board member. What do you guys think? galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=dcd80c8e3650540e

I'd be pissed. Why the hell is he giving them detailed instructions on oral and anal sex? I'm so terribly confused.

This doesn't make any sense. If she was ticked about students having sex on campus (allegedly) she would probably chastize them and refenec sexual acts but a "how to"? Something doesn't jive. The only context that makes any sense is her clarifying what oral and anal sex are and letting them know that these are sexual acts (a lot of kids think that if there's no vajayjay penetration, it doesn't count).
She was out of line but sometimes emotion takes over. She'll go down in flames. Kill her? Naw, sadly most of those 6th ot 8th graders could have probably taught her some stuff. But it wasn't her place.

OK well I tend to look at all angles of a situation.
This story has a bunch of holes in it. As they all do.
First, I think there is a break down in communication between the staff and Principal. Why was the Principal asked to leave the room? It seems like the teachers know there is an "issue" at the school, and they may feel like the Principal has done little to nothing addressing it. The teachers will see, witness waaaay more than the Principal so they KNOW whats going on.
It didn't start off sexual in nature so I believe it was one of several bullet points the speaker spoke on. There could of been an "educational" point that she was trying to convey but to some that's a squeamish topic and one that shouldn't be spoke of to there children. But if your child is getting it in during school then something must be said. Whether you had the sex talk with your children or not, and if the case maybe that they ARE doing it at school then they need to know school is where it is Not tolerated. And maybe this is what the teachers know and trying relay to the Principal.
I think they are made at WHO this person was that had that talk. If they were in a sex-edu. class then it would of been just as explicit.
NOW I can be completely wrong on this but this is my opinion of the matter.

Hitchcock, Texas...
Seems most of the parents that are mad are from Santa Fe or have roots there. For those who don't know about Santa Fe... 3-11 has a VERY special significance there.

C'mon Kyng...tell us about Santa Fe and Hitchcock, Texas. Could it have anything to do with the three Ks? I'm just asking.......

Exactly. However, with the suburbization of greater Houston and Clear Lake, Santa Fe (98% white) has become a more expensive area and some of the old school residents have been pushed to Hitchcock which had a larger (30%) black population. The population is clustered. Which leads to the black area electing black officials--read school board officials.
Enter this controversy.

I too am confused as to why the prinicipal was asked to leave the room. Though I don't agree with it, I could understand a teacher not saying anything; were there no other administrators there? The article says she apologized to some parents afterward one on one... so parents were at this meeting as well?

there is a lot we dont know and even more that we wont. I really do think the outrage is opportunistic.

First, she ain't getting fired, replaced nor removed. That's my prediction.
Yes. The timing was off. Yes. She should of NOT engaged the students in that manner (if that was really the deal).
It seems as though the kids KNOW that "sex acts" take place around school. Like I said before there is a breakdown somewhere AND denial amongst them.
Don't know about yall but in the 6th, 7th and surely by the 8th grade I knew about sex. I knew what to do, how to do it, condoms and what happens if you're not careful everything. So maybe I'm missing it when some parents say the kids shouldn't know about that stuff at that age.
