The man is to love his wife as Jesus loves his people. Being the head doesn't mean being a dictator. If our savior could get down and wash the feet of his followers a husband can cater to the needs of his wife. It's about mutual respect. Sadly, many men twist this to suit their own needs and ego. A good man understands his role just as a good woman understands hers.
Oh and yes, some women are taking the independent thing too far. Independence is ok but we were created to compliment each other. We shouldn't forget that. Well damn...I wanted to respond to this topic but I think this wraps it up...lol.

A Man Can Run It If He Pay For It Wouldn't that make the woman a prostitute?
Anyway, so if a woman pays for everything that means she runs it right? We All Are Prostitutes By Definition. Its What A Mans Suppose To Do Pay For It And Woman Are To Be Submissive. And Bunny I Agree My Ex Wanted The Hot Meal And All The Wife Stuff Without The Ring And the Paper...You Have To Earn That

I think you got it exactly right. Men are too busy assuming that we're going to protest this whole "head of household" thing to realize that there are a LOT of women out there who aren't bothered by it at all. I think their own chauvinism is dethroning so many of them in the eyes of women. NOT our increased sense of independence. AMEN!!!!!!

Damie's post was an excellent example of what God intends for order in the household.....(i need to exalt him for that)
the thing that people forget is that when it talks about a male being the head of his house, it doesnt apply to live in boyfriends and casual sex partners. I know one girl that was going all out for her boyfriend while he was cheating on her...she was cooking, cleanin, and everything else...
I am not condemning anyone for that. But the rules apply to husband and wife - thats first.
Second, I think people twist that scripture about submission and feel as if the woman is inferior which it doesnt. My ex and I use to argue about it all the time, simply because he associated the scripture with being a dictating, dominating fool. (and he was one)
The husband isnt suppose to shun his wifey in the event of a discrepancy......that scripture point blank means that for example:
wifey: wants to paint the room purple hubby: wants to paint it orange.
you dont agree.
you sit at the table, lay it all out. He listens to her, she listens to him......if they still cant come to agreement........either they agree on a different color all together, or she submits to orange.
It does not mean..."I am man, you shut up.....purple is ugly......you dont know what you are talking about, what I say goes......"
the bible clearly gives us the rules to live together in harmony - it didnt say it would be easy adjusting to it though, and plus sometimes we make it harder doing things out of his will.
Order in the house doesnt = condescending tone, mind control, & domination.
and that goes for men AND women, and its sad...but i know A LOT of women who talk much noise and mess to their men and treat em like kids, trying to be on that independent stuff and taking it too far.

This may be irrelevant, but I will share it anyway.
One of my patients told me the other day that he has been married 53 years and he would marry the same girl if he had to do it all over again.
Of course I said my awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwws! It was really touching. Then I asked him if he had any tips.
He said" AGREE TO DISAGREE.
He said from the beginning they promised to agree to disagree. He says even though he knows he's right most of the time (LOL) he has learned that she is entitled to her perspective. That was his "key" to marrital success.
I thought that was a great pearl of wisdom. Yet I didnt think it stopped there.
This man's entire demeanor was respectful. He was well into his 70's. I experiences loads of racism and sexim when it comes to dealing with patients especially older men.
Yet he treated me like I equal. The way he talked to me, the way he responded to me and interacted---showed a man who honestly had a decent regard for others.
I think that's half the battle. If you can say that compromise is optimal, but you still treat your mate in condescending way, that's going to bring about resent.
I saw him as a leader; he lead by his actions and not his words.
I am not married, however I feel like I appreciate the respect I receive in my current relationship. It helps me to be respectful as well.
True leadership naturally yeilds submission.
