www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2009/09/07/nr.sex.offender.cnnA pastor in Louisville, KY., is set to ordain a sex offender as a minister. CNN's Richard Lui talks to both them. Because I am Grateful to God for all my second chances, I am having a hard time with this one. As Christians, we should forgive, but its easy to say you forgive a stranger if you don’t have to deal with them on a regular basis. Sin, should be sin but its hard for me to accept that all sin is equal. And if they are equal I am really having a hard time giving all sin equal treatment. I can’t say I would be in favor at my Church. This man might be rehabilitated and God is capable of anything but with that said, I still would not want to take the risk. Is that Unchristian like, does that show lack of faith? Or is there such a thing as forgiving someone for their past but not forgetting or letting your guard down? If you don’t let your guard down have you truly forgiven them and given them another chance?

The Bible commands us to forgive. It does not command us to forget. There are some things that have happened to us at the hands of other people that we will never forget. And, yes, it will impact our relationships with them in some way, however small. And that is not always a bad thing. It doesn't mean that we don't love them and there is nothing wrong with wishing them well in their future endeavors to do good.
As it relates to this particular case, I didn't look at the video, but I would hope that an enormous amount of thought and prayer took place regarding this decision. Sometimes those who have received the greatest deliverance end up being the greatest witnesses for the Lord. For me to question whether or not he can now work for the Lord because of his past means I don't believe God is able to deliver people from sin. I don't believe that. And, if only perfect people can work for God, we can all go and sit down somewhere. Only One was sinless.
As you have so beautifully stated, God is a God of infinite chances and there is hope for even the what we think are the vilest sinners. God's ways are truly not ours.

If only God allowed all of our dirt to be out in the open...

I finally saw the video. I was impressed by the fact that he was forthcoming and the fact that the pastor had him sign a release that he would not minister to children.
I think that is reasonable.

The answer is simple. Take a look in the mirror, and ask yourself, do you deserve to be where you are?

Forgiveness does not absolve us of consequences.

The answer is simple. Take a look in the mirror, and ask yourself, do you deserve to be where you are? Wow I agree with this . Yes he has sinned. But God is a Second and a Third Chance God. In our eyes he may be never be trusted again because we are of flesh. He has nothing to prove to us but EVERYTHING to prove to GOD. I think it's the type (if you will) of sin that we're having a problem with. But is any Sin greater than the other?
