Vick Critic's Dog Dies After 4 Hours In Car
Posted: 11:38 am EDT August 27, 2009Updated: 11:55 am EDT August 27, 2009 RICHMOND, Va. -- A prosecutor said no charges are planned against an executive for an anti-animal cruelty group whose 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after accidentally being left in a hot car for four hours.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Tracy Thorne-Begland said Wednesday charges are not planned against Robin Starr, CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Starr says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car's cargo area as she got ready for work Aug. 19 but forgot to tell her. She often took the dog to work with her.
Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.
The National Weather Service says the temperature had reached 91 degrees by noon that day.
Starr has been a vocal critic of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick who was released from federal custody July 20 after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence for his role in running a dogfighting ring.
When Vick was reinstated to the NFL Starr said "The action of the NFL commissioner to reinstate Michael Vick is both premature and unwise. Vick has not yet demonstrated that his remorse is sincere or that his irresponsible, cruel and criminal behaviors are likely to change. The NFL and its leadership apparently lack the integrity to require civilized behavior from their players. This would reflect poorly on any team that adds Vick to its roster."

I'm not a hypocrite about these things--a dog should NEVER, EVER be left in a car (and I HAVE called the police on dogs left in cars) so that person deserves whatever is coming to them, just like Vick got.
Having said that, I still feel bad for this person. This WAS an accident, rather than planned cruelty to animals. I have heard NUMEROUS stories of people doing this with their kids--leaving their kids in a hot car, and a baby was accidentally left on a preschool bus in my city and died. They were all prosecuted, even though I am sure they didn't do it on purpose, and I know they felt AWFUL about it afterwards.

I think she just put the dog in the car and forgot he was there (probably accidentally). Either way she should at least get a fine. Why would he sit a blind old dog in the backseat of her car and not say anything?
I still don't get how people leave people and animals in cars? I wouldn't leave my fish in a hot azz car, lol.

damn yo...
...the dog was deaf and blind. So the dog didn't know WHAT the hell was going on. Just roasted to death. That's actually sad.

This person was basically stupid which I guess is better than blatant cruelty and having no feelings whatsoever like Vick, but in the end both animals died. There needs to get a fine for this... and it's not like people don't know you're not supposed to leave animals and children in hot cars. They talk about it on the news all the time. They need to step the fine up or start giving jail time because people aren't getting it. And because this person spoke out against Vick makes her look mad stupid. Very sad.

I don't think anything will happen to her...she's probably got offers for new dogs right now, lol. It's being framed as a tragic accident because she didn't know her husband put the dog in the car (shifting the blame off of her) and because of her work there is no way she could have made such a careless mistake...

Ok here's why I call BS:
First, what/where is the cargo area in a car? Is it the back seat? From where I'm from we call the back seat the BACK SEAT. Now SUV's and trucks have cargo areas.
Second, telling the press your husband "forgot" to mention it is total BS and insulting. Nowadays dogs are being treated like babies when it comes to law. Most times PETA were catalyst on most of their laws. "Forgot" should not keep this incident quiet and without fines. Cruelty to animals classes should be spoken also. If you often take your dog to work, and you are getting ready for work shouldn't you kinda KNOW that you have something in your "Cargo" area....where ever that may be? If they want to do it, DO IT all around.
