From today's EURWeb, wish they did something like this in my area though annually my chapter does sponsor GreekHoops, a basketball tournament for the frats.
Weekly matchups in L.A. hope to inspire young blacks to go to college.
*Each Sunday since July 5, Inglewood City Councilman Daniel Tabor has been hosting and playing in the "Frat Games" at Darby Park in Inglewood, where alumni from four historically black fraternities challenge each other to games of softball. The larger goal is to inspire young African Americans to go to college, while also rekindling the alumni's old bonds, reports the Los Angeles Times. "Black fraternities and sororities were founded by black college students who sought to give the black man or woman who were fortunate to be attending a college or university in the early 1900's a place to belong and a support network based on the ideals of academic excellence and leadership and responsibility," Tabor told the paper. Tabor said hundreds of people watch the games each Sunday and eat at the snack bar while listening to a DJ call the plays and spin music. Alumni from each of the four fraternities make up the teams: Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Phi Beta Sigma.
Tabor said the league has been an on-and-off in tradition in Southern California, dating back to at least the mid-1970s. This year's championship will be Aug. 23.

Sounds like a good social event... Us Georgia folks, might have to do something, like two hand football. I might even be down to play!

Sounds fun. My chapter does a annual flag football tourney... usually only two frats show up, the bruhz and the alphas... no sororities sign up, once an AKA chapter did but had to cancel at the last min.. so it ended up being old school vs new school sawrahs

No you don't. California is over priced, overrated, has too many Mexicans, too many street carts and too many damn fools. Besides, I don't really see too many non-greeks at this event and I really don't think kids in the inner city are learning anything from watching these dudes ball. WOW I wish I lived in Cali!!!!! This sounds like a really good event.

LOL I love LA, so it's not a surprise that I disagree with you. :-) Plus, I think the main benefit of the Frat Games is to foster a sense of community among the Greeks here in the LA area. If non-Greeks enjoy it as well, then that's also cool.

A few years ago when my local NPHC was tight we would whoop up on the Kappas, Ques and Sigmas in flag football and basketball. Not sure why those events stopped, but it was fun. We need to bring that back.

The greeks on my old campus are putting on a greek unity step show. One member from each org will participate. They are also creating a campus NPHC stroll that will be played at all events to promote unity.

If the UNITY stroll doesn't include everyone, then it really shouldn't be called "unity".
