If I say I love Jesus, but you can't see my Jesus My words are empty, if they can't see Jesus in me No more excuses, I give myself away Because I may be the only Jesus they see
These are lyrics from one of my favorite Kirk Franklin songs, "The Last Jesus" on his most recent album. My questions for you.....
*Do you think it's realistic to be "Christ-like" in your daily actions? *Is this something you actively strive for? *What attributes do you want others to see in you?

yes and yes!
I want people to see love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self-control in me.
I'm particularly working on self-control right now

I'm particularly working on self-control right now I agree with Leja's list. I must add that when I login to this site, I always exhibit self control. Here's why. I get a smite from two or three people on this board everyday. I can't get in to the OOA meetings. door slammed in my face I can't even get the owner of Para's Connection to fill my new order in a timely manner. I've been put on the Baby boomer death list. I've been accused of being an e-paper head who had no e-process. I've been hazed and hazed again and yet I am not allowed to haze. I've tried to not throw rocks, but .... I wish some Old purple **&^% oops.....sorry....I meant to say, person , would tell me I am out of control. *singing with five Heartbeats* "Ive got nothin' but love for you bAAA-by...

One of the things that constantly sticks with me is that I'm very cautious by nature. I am not blind to shady motives and abuse as I determine who and how I will help. Once I was headed to church and my pastor happened to be in the car directly in front of me. There was a beggar on the corner and he ignored him just as I did. I won't presume to know his reasons but as for me, I don't think Jesus would have cared if the person was going to go drink up the donation as I do, he just would have given him some money. I'm not sure it's possible to get to a Christ-like state of generosity because most will always consider how that generosity affects them first. The world can make you jaded. I actively mentor and work with several charities but have to be honest that I check them out thoroughly before I affiliate or donate.
It also always saddens me when people barely make it off the pew and to their cars before they are cutting people off and honking in the parking lot. I honestly don't think most of us actively try to personify Christ because the bar is so darn high. I like most, strive to be a good person, and be seen as such. I'll get my judgement on whether that was enough when my time comes.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA @ Oldskool! ;D You get an EXALT from me! DSTurbia--the most EFFECTIVE Christian I EVER met was this girl named Emma. She NEVER went around preaching about Jesus, she NEVER told anybody they were going to hell, she never went around trying to proseletyze. But because of the way she lived her life, it was obvious. I even heard people say, "When I get my life right and start being a Christian like I should, I want to be a Christian like Emma". I thought that was awesome. Also--I never give beggars money these days, because I never carry cash anymore. Experts tell people to give the money they WOULD give to beggars to the local homeless shelter. Perhaps your pastor did that.

I do believe it is possible to live Christ-like and I do strive to live such a life. All of the attributes listed by Leja are those I desire for people to see in me.
It is important to understand that being "Christ-like" means just what it says. Only Christ was perfect, so, as imperfect humans, we sometimes miss the mark. Just imagine, though, if we stopped trying, then what kind of life would we live? We should still keep striving, not be be Him, but to be LIKE Him.

And, regarding giving money to those who ask...
I take every situation on a case by case basis. I already know the deal about some people who ask, so it would be irresponsible and, perhaps even un-Christian, for me to contribute to what I already know is a destructive habit.
On the other hand, I tend not to judge people I don't know. I don't have a lot of people to really approach me and almost no repeat askers. I give them a dollar or two and call it a day. If they use it for something other than what they said they needed it for, that's not on me.

Perhaps your pastor did that. There was this prayer chorus that we sang back in the day in the youth group at the church I group us in. It said something like: And they'll know we are Christians by our love...Too often we forget the love part and do things in the name of the Lord for which we will be harshly judged one day. Wanna be Christ-like? Start by loving everybody as Christ did. Give of yourself. The Christ that others see in you may be the only Christ some will ever know. Folks will eventually inquire and then you can tell them who your Saviour is. Actually, found the lyrics. They are below. We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord And we pray that all unity may one day be restored And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
We will work with each other, we will work side by side We will work with each other, we will work side by side And we'll guard each one's dignity and save each one's pride And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
By our love, by our love
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand And together we'll spread the news that God is in our land And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
By our love, by our love
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love

My questions for you.....
*Do you think it's realistic to be "Christ-like" in your daily actions? *Is this something you actively strive for? *What attributes do you want others to see in you?
1. Yes, I do not believe God would call us to do something that we are incapable of. There is always a way of escape and with a renewed mind we are capable of avoiding premediated sin and asking God to reveal those things which are offensive to Him so we can avoid them. 2. Yes, I'd been toying with this for years honestly. Over the past 2-3 years, I've become more serious about it, particularly I'd say within the past year. It took a while to come to grips with "my life is not my own" 3. Like most the fruits of the Spirit, particularly peace, patience, meekness and joy.

It only becomes possible when you submit to God's will for your life and begin to aim for a Christ-like lifestyle by praying and reading daily---studying and fellowshiping with others who are there to support you along the way.
Yes it is possible in my opinion.

But I so feel where you are coming from Dsturbia. Many people know the bible from cover to cover---so they say,but they can't tell you anything about Jesus' ministry.
Love was the foundation of his ministry. If we can not humble ourselves to do what Jesus has done at least at some point in our lives, IM most honest opinion, we are not Christians nor are we attempting to be Christ-like.
