Does anyone else think the government is doing a crappy job on PR for this? All I keep hearing about is the $1-3 billion dollars in costs but nothing about the additional tax revenue being generated off the sales? You have to buy a brand new car so there should be some offsetting of expense.

I agree, 91. This is not getting the necessary PR to act as the sugar you take with the medicine.

I heard about this program thru my friends since one recently got into an accident. Lol, after reading into it more tho, I don't think she'd qualify since she can't trade in her banged up ride.
It's funny tho...I was just reading an article on politicsdaily.com about some of the eligible vehicles you can purchase to get your $3500-$4500. Some of the cars eligible are a new Hummer H-3, Yukon, Suburban, F-250, etc. Maybe I misunderstood what clunker meant and the purpose of the program...I thought it meant trade in your big, gas-guzzler for a more fuel-efficent/cleaner car, but apparently, as long as you buy something new, it's all good?

With getting vehicles like that, the monthly payments are wy more than what people can afford... Cost of living here is very high, and the wages are not all that.... Although the program sounds real cool, some people are still not able to afford the monthly payments....

^And that's what the program means. "Cash for a payment you cannot afford." The name should be changed.[/b]
