Normally dappa, I would agree but in this case, you can't lead the charge on impeachment of a public figure based on that persons "moral flaw" and then refuse to vacate your own seat when that flaw appears in your character.
I, for one, don't give 2 shits who politicians screw. Just don't be a hypocrite about it. The only people I have ever advocated leaving their position are those who wield the sword of righteousness over the heads of everyone else and then sheath it when the same dragon appears in their own house.
You choose the tune...yo ass better dance.

If it wasn't for his hyper-hypocrisy and cheating on Fathers' Day, I would be looking at this with a degree of sympathy.
But I will say this---like I've said since I became a member of this mental institution sugar-coated as OOA---Cheating is the result of a much bigger problem. His wife is hurting while he's laying the pipe in Argentina. Okay, I realize that. But he was a man in obvious pain that came clean. I'm not condoning his actions, no one person should.
Regarding the hypocrisy. The politics of it all will take it's ususal nature and stance of mudslinging, but we should consider this much....
He's a politician. I'm sure the Governor didn't forsee political hypocrisy and infidelity while he chased his political dreams. I'm sure he didn't for forsee Clinton cheating in the WH and then being forced to give a political--albeit hypocritical--statement regarding infidelity while holding public office.
This happened. His cheating happened because he was unhappy man existing in a failing marriage....who just happened to be a politician who has to play the political gamesmanship of American politics...no less a hypocrite, though.
I wonder how we would shape our opinions of Obama if he were to cheat on Michelle?
With that said, I hope he resigns and gets down to the business of showing accountability and being a good father to his four young sons so that he can reassure to them that fatherhood, despite his bad judgements as a man and a husband, is still important. If he does this, he will always have a positive relationship with them.
This should be the order of business for this man.

I agree, E.
I caught hell here at my job for saying that I do have some sympathy for this man.

I agree, E. I caught hell here at my job for saying that I do have some sympathy for this man. You know what Cam, many others feel like you and I, but are too chicken shyt to admit it. It's more comfortable to agree with the masses... How paradoxical is it that privately, many feel the same as you and I, but express the opinion of others who publicy say one thing, but privatly feel the same as the person who follows their public opinion. It's like you and I agreeing with each other publicly about a lie, then going home and dealing with the truth, and come back the next damn day and lie to each other all over again, and get 10 more people to do the same. How many men will really stand up and talk about this with heart and character? Not many...

Now see, I didn't know how old his kids are, and I said that if they were grown, I would give him 5% sympathy for doing what he did during Father's Day. But young kids? He chose to do whatever with his mistress on FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND! Woooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww.

Whereas I noramally would not care what happens to a fukka like this...his ass needs to be FORCED to resign!
After all his hypocritical statements and bullsheet during past situations involving other politicians, he deserves to be humiliated to no end! I have really had it with these pious and holy hypocritical right-wingers!
Like Paul Begala said on CNN last week..."stay out of folks bedrooms and living rooms trying to dictate how people should live their private lives."

pussy and Politics is almost like Rum & Coke they really go together. LMAO!....As funny as that sounds, I don't think anybody could've put it in better perspective than that. I mean, there it is there! Most will agree, but it just might be in it's proper context as well. *waiting for women to throw symbolic black frying pan*

*Did WF just toss the gauntlet? I accept your challenge*
Let me begin my response by saying there are 2 separate issues here... his political life and his private life.
Regarding his political life - f#ck him. If he wanted understanding on an issue like this on the political front - maybe he should have showed some when he had a chance. This is nothing but his comeuppence - he made this bed, he can lie in it and I shed no tears for him. F#ck him.
Regarding his personal life - sure there are 2 sides to every story. But my guess is that we don't know either side. Maybe she drove him away. Maybe he drove her away. Not knowing either or I don't assume either one scenario (even though I know both scenarios are equally likely). If there's more to it, if she was abusive, or she cheated first, maybe I can be empathetic to his situation but NOT his choices. He has to be accountable for what HE does regardless of the situation - and that's no more than I would ask of myself or anyone else.
So not knowing more about it, I say as a politician - f#ck him

As a wife and mother, I think his decision to cheat on his wife is disgusting, his decision to do it over fathers day weekend adds about 3 additional layers of grimey into the equation. His hypocritical judgement of others caught in the same situation makes it very satisfying to mock his choices.
All of the above issues are secondary. The reason that this fool should step down are as follows:
Dereliction of duty - He had booked a 10 day trip, he only came back early because no one could find him. I think the Lt Governor sounded the alarm for political reasons, but I digress. What if something had happened and he had not left anyone in charge? Did he really think that no one would notice that he was missing? He was captain of the ship and he left it unmanned, just so he could sneak off without alerting his wife.
Abuse of taxpayer dollars - He went to Argentina last year, allegedly on business, but he went to see his girlfriend then. The Argentinan leg of the trip cost $8000, he is now planning on reimbursing that expense. But one must wonder...would the governor of S Carolina really need a jaunt to S. America to help him govern his state, or was this trip taken simply as a diversion so he would have a chance to see his girlfriend?
Professional Hypocrisy - He refused the stimulus money because he is so fiscally conservative that it offended him to use the taxpayers money to fix roads and schools and fund projects that would put people back to work; but he can travel to S America on a questionable trip. He wanted to be able to use the stimulus money to pay down the state debt, this is the debt that he contributed to by his frivolous trips. This man is a multimillionare, all of his children attend expensive private schools...he could well afford to pay his own way to Argentina and saved the taxpayers over $8000.
This man is disgusting...

These are the two MAIN reasons that he should resign/be fired, IMHO. Although I *DESPISE* adultery and adulterers, if he had just cheated and hadn't misused taxpayer money or abandoned his job, I'd be like whatever. If I leave my job and don't tell anybody where I am, I wouldn't have a job to return to. And I agree with Cam and Warner Fite, too. At this point I'm jaded, and I think pretty much 95% (or more) of men cheat. I am certain that a lot of men have sympathy for him and are doing basically the same thing. However, in public, they are showing "outrage". This is how it went down when Clinton was doing his thang. The main folks going after him--like Newt--were doing the same thing behind closed doors.

He wants his wife to divorce him. I mean really, who needs to know that the mistress is his soul mate? His wife didn't even need to be told that privately, much less have him make a public declaration. Now he is even admitting publicly to having inappropriate relations with other women. What a punk! If he wants a divorce he just needs to man up and ask for it, and stop dragging his family through this public humiliation.

I think he's come unglued. He just isn't right in the head. All these tearful, public press conferences, telling *ALL* his personal business. This stuff should have been between him and his wife. He said today that he has "crossed the line" with other women as well: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090630/ap_on_re_us/us_sc_governor

We reaally should be surprised by these type of actions from our political figures anymore.
We fail to forget that this great country of ours was founded by crooks, pimps and hoes. I'm just sayin once we can digest the fact we can deal with the politcal figures a little bit better.
