Psalm 14:1
"The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good".
April Fool’s Day can be traced back to 14th Century France. France was one of the first to adopt a Gregorian calendar making the first of the year January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate the old new year which was a thirty day celebration ending on April 1st were ridiculed and the butt of jokes, thus “April fools”. As Christians, we don’t ridicule those who don’t believe in and act on the fact there is a God, but we understand that they are behaving as fools and are on a path that leads to destruction.
It is convenient for us to believe there are no consequences for someone who chooses to believe there is no God. We try to tell ourselves that we have the freedom to make choices and it is perfectly okay for people to believe what they want to. Our beliefs, we tell ourselves, are personal and each is entitled to his or her own. The truth is it is a very dangerous thing to go through life not believing in God. And, not simply believing in God, it is acting on that belief that causes us to live lives with meaning. Ignoring the existing and presence of God leads us down paths of individual and in some cases corporate destruction. When we treat the idea of not believing in God casually we fail to make the connection between Godlessness and human depravity. As Christians, we need to be examples of the difference belief makes in our world.
I pray that you will encounter an April fool, plant them in Christlike fellowship and help turn them into a May flower.
