I don't think its a matter of being insecure, but some women feel as though age is a good enough reason to feel as though they have paid their dues, and can everyone everything.
Kind of like how women with more than one child, swear up and down that a new mother is just the dumbest person on earth, and they want to give her every bit of crazy advice known to man.

I was a nice gesture but everyone doesn't want to all types of oil all over them....some stuff you keep to yourself!! |

You answered your own question. In my last job (which was in your field), I had a lateral co-worker who absolutely HATED another younger woman (her supervisor) and me. Back in the day, social work/case management/administration and similar jobs were just commonsense type jobs. People with a measure of sense easily got hired and their highly educated superiors didn't bother them. Today, a standard of educational background is expected for such jobs. So we come on the scene talking about efficiency and format familiarity...outlook and excel and they are NOT hearing it. It literaly threatens them because they suddenly feel underqualified for a job they've done for years. At that job, I checked the current job description against my coworker's resume/knowledge base and it was clear that if she had to re-interview, she'd lose her job in a minute. Not her fault, but times are changing. Change with them, or not. |

I am not sure about the answer to this question. In general peoplecan be messy about a lot of things. Fixed it for ya!  As I've said before, I work for the military...some of the silliest, most senseless mess I've ever seen has come from both men as well as women. I don't think it has to do with age, either. I've met a lot of older women who have a LOT of wisdom, and is always advising and helping the younger ones. There's one lady like that at my job now, and she is SOOOOO cool. But some just keep mess going. It just really depends. |
